Re: Zero is one of the most interesting isekai anime that has come out in the past few years. The story revolves around Natsuki Subaru being transported from Earth to a new world and he is granted one simple power: "Return By Death". Subaru must use this newfound power to save those he cares about, such as Emilia, Rem, Ram, Petra, Otto and Garfiel and more.
Who is Satella and why did she grant subaru this power? What is the motivation behind the witch cult which have members such as Petelguese the sin archbishop of sloth? These are some of the questions I'll tackle on this channel, I hope you enjoy it and most importantly also enjoy season 1 and season 2 of Re: zero and hopefully it does well enough to warrant a third season covering arc 5 (Season 3 re: zero).

Just because Roy is alive and Louis doesn’t smell like the witch, doesn’t mean that Roy has it. Maybe Louis’ piece of Gluttony went to Subaru when they got transported to Vollachia

I believe this is the case. Gluttony gave Subaru power to control Louis as if she were a Mabeast since users of gluttony can control Mabeasts. She seems to need Subaru's permission to use any of her abilities. I'd guess that Gluttony is still split between Subaru and Roy.

I think Subaru has the Gluttony because since the original true Louis "died" so should her copies. (When White Whale died its copies died along with it.) Considering how she placed her copy inside Subaru she might have done that same thing to her brothers too. And i think Subaru got the factor because when original dies, copies die too which means gluttony is dead and Roy is nothing but a simple child rn. I also think that the girl we saw after Louis "died" is a reincarnation of Louis (cuz thats the thing in Od Lagna, it filters the soul from memories and places it in a body without no name. Essentially, the body called "Louis Arneb" was the Green Room itself and its dead) which explains why the girl doesnt remember anything and probably everyone who knew her before wont remember her.(So there is a possibility that Roy may not be able to remember her if he sees her but ofc he may remember too cuz we still dont know the aftermath of authority on people. If my assumption is correct, Roy is the only one who survived the authority removal (even Betelgeuse's fingers got killed so we didnt get to see the aftermath of Sloth on those "crazy" people when he leaves the body and hops into another one) since to remove an authority they have to... you know... die lol) But ofc, that reincarnated girl's name is officially "Louis Arneb" because thats what she was called for the first time as a name by Subaru when Subaru was trying to warn Ram about her. I cant wait to see how Subaru will utilize the authority.
It also explains Al's devotion to Priscilla, the character who embodies Pride the best in the series.

@@10100rsn That is impossible since if one holds an authority they can´t have a divine protection. Divine protections are given by Od Laguna, who considers authorities to be "a blight in the world".

I think that when Luis got inside of Subaru she lost her authority there and that's why she does not have it in arc 7 and Subaru has not used it as it usually takes time.
But wasn't she regaining it? Considering she regained some sort of teleportation ability in arc 7

I think Louis in arc 7 got created by Subarus Gluttony. Since Gluttony allows to create life (mabeasts) and we got humanoid mabeast Shaula, then Louis can be a created mabeast. I think that Subaru is hungry for companions/friends, so the ability created one for him. Louis would be to Subaru what Shaula was to Flugel.

I believe the Witch's scent is misunderstood by the fandom:
Most Authority users only have the scent when they use the Auth, Subaru always passively smells because he's being targeted by Satella's Envy, Return by Death may be a secundary effect of this, or it may be it's own Auth, but either way, it increases the scent even more when it's activated.

was it ever stated that Geuse split his WF among his fingers? I always thought that he simply transferred his WF alongside himself to the fingers after he possessed them not that they all already had it as evident by how none of them use unseen hands except Geuse himself. Also it's never stated that WF are the only way to obtain an authority so maybe Pandora, Hector and Clind obtained theirs from a source outside the WF and that way the T-man's statement about how there's only seven WF makes sense.

I was under the assumption that geuse was a spirit and needed an applicable gate to attach to and possess. Hence why Subaru was so susceptible to the possession. Maybe I’m jus totally left field and that’s only web novel, anybody remember?

Considering how every sin archbishop authority is different yet similar from their predecessor, is there a way to determine the specific power Stride possessed from the authority of Pride?

Tappei also confirmed Pandora was present during the battle of Priestella, so she’s definately alive and active.
Only one witch factor can exist at once but the gluttony trio is proof you can share an ability under the right conditions. I’d like Al to be pride but I doubt it, satella has time related abilities so do Subaru and Al, we don’t know what all the ways pride can manifest but the power seems related to assessing people so I’d imagine Priscilla would be a more likely candidate for pride ( if she didn’t have a divine protection)

Roy is sealed, and is going to be sealed for a long time. This looks like a reference to Annie from AOT. In future, some rumble happens (Gate Opens) which causes unsealing of Roy, then he will be a potential *Ally* or *Enemy.*
In the Ally terms, he will probably assist Louis to fight the thing that has come out of the "Gates."
In Enemy terms, he will just appear out of no where to fight Subaru's group.
If Madeleine and Julius ironically become good friends in this arc, then in future Roy can tell Madeleine that Julius killed Baleroy. And the fact would be that no one would deny it as it's literally Gluttony speaking out memories of the reality that everyone forgot.

it makes sense because the previous owner was stride vollachia, and he could kill people unnoticed while using the authority. even the sword saint wasnt able to sense him killing people and could notice only after the murder. se when he died, his witch factor went to someone else inside vollachia.
just putting out an idea with tappei saying that there's only 7 witch factors/ authorities what if both vainglory and melancholy don't have their own witch factors and are something completely different. like how those are no longer any of the deadly sins they then became their own thing entirely.
Ive always been of the opinion that Satella has basically semi possessed Subaru, and her witch factor is being channeled through Subaru, so Satella has envy, but Subaru is bennefitting from it.
It just makes no sense to me how Satella could give Subaru pride when she isekai'd him when she shouldnt even have it to give.
Would make sense why Subaru's scent seems to overpower all other witch factors scents, hes channeling the witch imo.
Isn't the word 'vainglory' related to the word 'pride'? I think the case for Pandora being the Witch of Pride could be stronger. If a female were to be the embodiment of Pride, wouldn't that manifest as Vainglory? By merging the two mentioned Authorities, there now should be 8 accounted for Authorities. The thing that I think disqualifies Al from being Pride is that his Authority is too similar to Subaru's so I think there is an implication that their power sources are the same: Satella. The text usually implies that Subaru and Al have a connection in some way. Therefore, I believe that Satella gave a bootleg Return By Death to Al because he holds some importance to Subaru in the future and that Authority is a way to ensure that Al is alive and useful to Subaru.
With Hector, I believe his dynamic is that he has a Pseudo Authority created from scratch given to him by Echidna. The purpose probably as a weapon of sorts against Satella. Hector's powers seem directed towards defense (ability for shields) which could be use for containment and crowd control. Echidna and Hector's relationship could be viewed as creator and creation mimicking the mad scientist role that Echidna plays as Doctor Frankenstein. Perhaps the creation of the Authority is painful or needs great sacrifice, hence it's name 'Melancholy' and therefore seeds the motivation for the attack on Sanctuary by Hector. I reason that Echidna was to trap Hector in Sanctuary as a storage/prison and then use Beatrice's shadow magic to deploy him at will through teleportation. Clind having similar powers could be an indication that the Authority is imperfect since most Authorities manifest differently for each wielder. Hector having this artificial Authority would bring the Authority number to 7 again, making Tapei's claim true.
but ptelgeuse confirmed that "pride" has reached the next generation (the sin archbishop generation) and pandora is a witch which mean she live in witchs generation, and witch of pride's seat is already taken by typhon.
@@aryosheva8204 I wonder where Ptelgeuse got that information? Not to discount everything he says but Ptelgeuse memories have been altered before by Pandora before so I don't have a lot of confidence in what he said since it could be subterfuge to hide Pandora's identity. I don't know if there is explicit text saying that Typhon and Pandora lived during the same era. It could be that Pandora just inherited her Witch Factor.
Vainglory indeed has similarities with Pride but it was actually united with Pride in one sin at some point. Melancholy also was a separate sin until it was united with Sloth. And then Envy was added. I thought that Pandora has witch factor of pride but according to this logic melancholy is sloth so Hector should have it. But we know that this factor in the box.
Despite this sloth and melancholy have a similarities in abilites (telekines and gravitation control almost the same thing you can move something without touching it) Clind teleportation ability also seems very slothfull to me and I don't know how to connect Melancholy with teleportation.
So there is a chance that Vainglory and Melancholy are just a variations of Sloth and Pride.
Well, I believe the main problem is that Typhon,a girl, was the witch of pride, and her sin was never transformed into vainglory. Furthermore, It is heavily implied that Typhon and Pandora coexisted and so Pandora could´ve never have gotten her hands onto the pride witch factor, since Typhon held it. Or if Pandora had taken it before, then Typhon could´ve never become the witch of pride.
Maybe Al has a portion of the envy witch factor just like Subaru
I dont believe that to be the case maybe before subaru get summon to the rezero world he used to have the return by death but after he failed satella give it to the most likely last person that can kill her permanently

@@AchillesB41 i don't think that Satell can decide what power Al derives from a particular eitch factor. As we have seen with all of the authorities, they are linked to the user in a very philosophically deep way.

A witch factor chooses it's holder(unless its trapped like the one guese had). So if aldebaran was nearby the pride archbishop then the archbishop died. Then the witch factor will go to him since he is compatible.
Killing a witch/archbishop doesnt mean you will get their witch factor

Just because witch factors grant authorities doesnt necessarily mean that authorities have to come from witch factors.

This is gonna be a long comment but eh. A part of me really wants to agree with what's said in the vid from a process of elimination standpoint, but another part of me wants to disagree on the idea that all of the authorities have a theme that corresponds to the witch factor. Just to name some examples, Subaru and Satella have the authority of envy and one has RBD while the other is immortal so the common "theme" is death (or I guess anti death in satellas case), for greed it's time as regulus has stillness of an objects time and echidnas is the book of wisdom (and before someone says it yes tappei confirmed that the book of wisdom is echidnas authority in a q&a I can't remember which one), and gluttony was directly said by pick at the end of arc 3 that it's a power of eating. The theme around pride isn't really known but it can be guessed, stride never shows it off but we do know from Typhon's book of the dead that the witch factor of pride allowed her to judge people so it's likely that's what the theme of it is. Al's authority doesn't fit that theme and not only that, but seems to fit more with envy as his authority allows him to go back in time whenever someone dies. Not only that, but despite authorities not normally being able to have 2 wielders at the same time, both Subaru and Satella have it. So I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that Al has the authority of envy if Satella found a way to share her witch factor. Obviously there are loopholes to this as Subarus Cor Leonis and little king doesn't fit the theme of greed. One other thing that doesn't have to do with this that I thought was interesting that was brought up in the vid was the fact that there are 7 witch factors but 9 authorities with the extras being vanity and melancholy, vanity and melancholy are considered very similar to pride and sloth respectively. And the authority of melancholy on a surface level seems similar to sloth in the sense that they can attack people through some invisible force. And maybe vanity has something similar going on.
If the Al = Subaru theory ends up being correct, this could also explain why Petelgeuse mistakenly thought subaru was pride.
I bet Al is somehow Kenichi based on their faces and also the idea of Fortuna who raised Emilia maybe being the bishop wrath.

I think that Subaru doesn't have to kill the sin archbishops to get their witch factor. Instead of having the envy witch factor at the Pleiades watchtower he has wrath and Louis doesn't have the witches scent because Subaru has defeated gluttony and absorbed their witch factor
sadly, no. witch factors are strictly tied up to the user soul and cant be easily removed. we know this from louis speech in arc6. but, when one of the glottony died subaru got a third of hte witch factor. possibly even another third by louis when she used her own powe to strip her own memory, breking the power itself (glottony is to consume, not to remove something from themself, hence the witch factor could have moved outside her body)
pretty sure he does for the reasons the comment above stated, its directly tied to their souls. Thats why louis was so scared of subaru because he’s literally unbeatable. And theres no current ways to remove someones witch factor that easily. Although you can seemingly fuck with it, as we’ve seen in arc 7 now

Here’s my theory, witch factors can be shared/synced up with another person, al
And Subaru got a connection to satella and probably has pieces of her soul mixed with theirs. Think about what satella said to Subaru , she wants him to love himself and not be so hard on him. Envy is an emotion that stems from wanting traits or qualities others have. Maybe Subaru and Al are so compatible with the envy witch factor fragments ( im calling them) cuz they curse their weaknesses and desire to be strong like all their friends/Allies. However since they would need a million plus tries to do so, the abilities they got give them a “redo”. The authorities seems to correlate to that person’s desire/ideal compared to that sin, cappella sees lust as skin deep thus she can turn others or Herself into anyone, regulus claims to be satisfied yet felt entitled and deserving like a god, juice was very diligent ironically. So maybe Al can tell what power Subaru roughly has cuz of his knowledge of satella and her abilities.
theory: the "what if" stories that the author releases every once in a while where if subaru chose to make a different choice than he had in the main storyline.
Well i think when this story is at its very end or very close to finishing. Once subaru and flugel are one, regained memories etc. I believe subaru will have to make a choice. Whether to choose emilia or satella. Virtue or Sin. Who to love essentially, no harem. most likely he'll choose emilia and then the author will release a "IF" split story where instead if he had chosen satella instead.
I believe the whole theory of satella == emilia is a red herring. UIltimately, i do believe they are two completely different people. Intentionally made to look similar because the author is a gidaTroll and likes to fook with people and lead them around by the nose. But with minerva being emilia mother. i dont see satella and emilia as the same, or even them somehow sharing a some sort of fragment of soul.

I don't think Subaru has the envy or pride witch factor, but i think his Return by death is either:
1) His in some sort of Soul Marriage with Satella Witch's Time=Return by Death.
2) People who get Isekaid to the Re;zero World get abilties that are unique to them.
3) The condition to Satella's Authority is similar to Regulus that she need someone to activate her authority.
Its a curse that simple let satella soul in someone's body (have the envy witch factor as a result of that) and after the person dies simple return him from death to a point that the auhtority wants in a timeline towards a goal that satella wants sometimes she keep him in the shadow garden saying "iloveyou"
This is debunked by the gate and Shaula each stating how many witch factors he had in arc 6.
Why doesn't Rem and Ram take notice of Clind having the witch miasma and same for Al if they have witch authorities

the only person who has the authority of pride is stride vollachia who only appears in ex 3 and we never see but he was killed by the black dragon and the only way authorities can transfer from a persons body is by killing them and i dont think al is the black dragon but he could have had found a pride witch factor and absorbed it but we dont know if a box containing that even exists and we havent seen stride use his authority either so who knows maybe it could be the same as al's and tappei wants to wait until later arcs to reveal but we'll never see stride tho because he died years before subaru arrived during the demi human war
also even though tappei states that there are 7 witch factors that doesnt mean that al's authority is linked to a witch factor at all it could be just be an authority like a divine protection because they are similar but not the same because what if od laguna creates authorities like how they create divine protections and creates witch factors for the 7 sins and just makes the rest only authorities like vainglory and melancholy or witch factors are created by the witches or witch cult themselves to actually gain authorities and they only made factors for the 7 sins and people like vainglory and melancholy are born with their authorities and al could just be born with an authority completly different than any sin and if theres sin witch factors what if his authority could be a virtue factor if i had to guess it would be patience because he seems to have lots of patience resetting his body thousands of times or diligence.
I like the thought process. But Tappei loves to pull a 180 on us. So there’s a chance this may not be true. If it is true, then the perms death in Arc 8 would be Al.
didn’t the greed if light novel state if subaru smelled so bad he can cover up other people’s miasma scent? And since subaru has died like 20+ times before rem stated Louis doesn’t stink, I would think she still does have the authority of gluttony but subaru is covering up her smell
I don't think his fingers had witch factors, I think they just had a really high affinity for either witch factors or spirits (we don't know which, since Subaru has both) and this allows Petelgeuse to possess them, since he's a spirit.
Petelguese states that his witch factor returns to him when his fingers are killed which shows that he can split them by some method

Huh. Are we sure that isn't a mistranslation? With what Tappei said about factors not splitting and the fact that he was able to possess Subaru, that doesn't seem to match up.

Now the word, Right or Wrong emotions or the concept refers to "Prideful Behaviour of Typhon." This implies that the enemy is either a pride sin archbishop or a Pride follower.
This also implies to those psychopath "Chruch Priests" That talk about right or wrong in terms of "Gods."

From the looks of the scene, it clearly meant that he knew the place. It was Subaru who got cornered, not Guese as he was flying. So that case doesn't seem correct.
It gets even more interesting when you think about those spikes. How did those Spikes even occur below a random cliffs? It looks like something made of Earth Magic. If I'm not wrong, currently Al or Otto uses Spiked Earth Magic according to wiki (Not sure if it's Al or Otto.)

I think al has the pride witch factor cause he can do something similar to return by dead but in a small zone but not as powerful as the original witch factor that the witch has. I might be wrong cause i was saying this with very vague knowledge.

Tappei has paused releases. Could be another few days, weeks or months before he releases more. Tappei probably writes the web novel chapters in advance and holds on to them as the light novel gets updated, then releases web novel chapters about the same time as the next light novel is getting released keeping the web novel slightly ahead of the light novel.

@@kostas4005 it was explained in arc 7 . because of all the dog curse in arc 2 , Beatrice explained that now they killed the dogs the curse will never activate and kill Subaru but all the curses he got are still there they just never going to awaken
In arc 7 when Subaru arm blown up, we get this dialog that Subaru now is some kinda of vessel of all this curses, the dog curse and the dragon curse both are fighting against each other they will never let the other curse have their prey but they also will not allow their host to die before they kill it

Maybe the witch factors are a way of transferring CERTAIN authorities. And thats why tappei said theres 7 witch factors, because those are the only ones that can be “collected” by subaru.
My guess is certain people are just born with or gain an authority thru some other means, but witch factors were created to easily give people authorities. For what reason, I have no clue. Maybe the witch factors were created after the witches died, to house their souls or something. And the authority it gives is just a byproduct

3) Al mentions his association initially in the gladiator island. Where currently subaru has caught up.

Except the lore of re: zero states that witch factors allow you to use authorities, therefore there’s no such thing as as authority user without a witch factor.
