My husband used to rabbit hunt and I loved to watch him train his beagles. Great job training those pups.

Great vid! My lab was jumpy to noise at 10-11 weeks. I used packing material, bubble wrap type stuff, to break his fear. I popped it while he was eating, same as you did with the .22. It worked like a charm. Now he loves all Amazon arrivals and goes happy nuts when the guns come out! Just a tip for your viewers. It’s a great method for folks on a budget.

The banging pots and pans is kind of the old school method - most trainers I have worked with now prefer the blanks being shot while the dog is retrieving a bumper and working closer and closer but as long as they aren't gun-shy thats what matters most.

I’m glad you guys are doing these videos. My current dog is a 7 year old lab that I trained myself. But I was really lucky in that he wasn’t gun shy or anything like that, I never knew how to introduce to gunfire and what not. I’ve known of many hunters that had gotten dogs that are gun shy and there wasn’t much readily available info out there as there is now for getting them started

My Daddy trained bird dogs (pointers/setters), and he had a quail wing tied to a long string that "flew" around him in a circle! We could play with the puppies until they started training (don't remember age) them, but then not as much playtime. He said he wanted "bird dogs", not "pets". He trained good dogs.

These pups learned fast. They went from banging pans straight to live rounds lol

How much is that the Breading? I think some dog would never get used to loud noice. I have a German Shepherd and do 3 ring training . You can see it’s the breed some dog wouldn’t cut it.

New subscriber here. What is the ideal time to take a pup from its mother and littermates? I read Roger Wolters Water Dog many years ago and he said that the 49th day is the ideal time. Is this still valid. Thanks!

Loud noise damages our ears. You would think since a dog has much more sensitive ears their ears would also get damaged. I love hunting dogs. They are the smartest along with herding dogs like border collies. I wonder if a border collie would be good for hunting. They are known as the all time smartest dog and easiest to train. Maybe crossing German short hairs would mix well with a border collie. If I was younger, I would try. How would you compare German short hairs to labs?

This one time,my buddys dad bought a black lab puppy, well theyd had him for about a year and we went in the backyard to shoot his browning BPS,well first shot, BOOM! ranger puked on the spot and pooped in the same pile...it was hillarity..... a thousand bucks for that puppy and he would hide from lightning and poop and puke all over the house🤣🤣

Good lord. I don't know how many times I've been known to say that 95% of professionals don't know which end of the dog to feed.
