This video is what got me hooked on ridge soaring... I may not be flying as fast as this in my hang glider... but to me the sensation is the same... Thanks for the memories Matt... You are missed.
Thank you soo much for this video, after not being able to fly any more due to a change in financial circumstances, this made me feel so alive again just to watch!
Good to see you publishing new flights: I had an hour in the Discus yesterday in conditions that looked autumnal. Auckland is still warm, but the sky is quietening, so I look forward to virtual flying via your videos over the coming winter.
Fantastic video. Great fun - I want a go! As an aside, you have probably noticed already but your TE tubing has a leak, would be well worth fixing that. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up!
Unfurtunatly this very experienced pilot died in an accident in December 2016 after a winch launch failure during turbulent conditions. The sad but for glider pilots valuable details can be read in *AAIB_Bulletin_2-2018* page 32ff.
Agree. Bruno has an awesome channel too. I’ve yet to see any night gliding .. of course not much to see at night. .. and I’m guessing Gliding at night probably doesn’t work so well because of no sunlight (heat) .
glider-enthusiast Adam yes, also I think the idea of having some kind of power assisted take off or to keep the glider aloft longer is a good idea if not for extended range certainly for safety.
Just out of curiosity, is this "Cliff Hooning" something special with real gliders? I am surprised, you as experienced soaring person, you discover a new playground!? With RC-"gliders" it's common and the most intense experience... , with "dynamic" soaring ...
Not sure if it is the camera compressing the distance but looks like there is no way your wing will not clip the cliff at certain points in this flight.
If you mean killed, "this" had nothing whatsoever to do with it. This did: "During a glider winch launch in turbulent conditions the weak link parted. The pilot attempted to fly a circuit to land near the launch point but the glider encountered significant sink and had insufficient energy to complete the intended circuit. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the impact with the ground." assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a5f158c40f0b652634c6f36/Schleicher_ASW_24_G-CFNG_02-18.pdf
Loved it!!! Only thing that would have been better would have been to be flying on your tail 100 feet behind filming you! ;)
I keep imagining how cool this would look if I was one of the people walking along the cliff

RIP!!! You was for me one of the best pilots of the world!

Zone Television gliders don't have lights so it would be highly dangerous to fly after sunset

Is there a place to land If you had to land ? Low altitude and a lot of fun...nice video, greeting from France ;-)

Awesome ;)
You doing any commercial flying anymore?
Hi, nice video what video editor do you use??
Is there much risk of bird strikes? Nice video!
Matt, how do you guys coordinate/deconflict the airspace? It would suck big time to have someone 180 out of phase.
Man are you having fun! :D
What was your top speed?
Awesome channel. Thanks for the posts!
Cheers,
Q
Full on .......
Wouaw it's juste amazing !

Thanks for the reply, I think that is correct that the wide angle lens is making it look closer than it is.
siiiiiiick! :p
nice
🤟🏻
Well ..we now know where this got you
We all know what it gave him because he shared it with us. We have no way of knowing where it got him.
