I wasn’t so fortunate. I snapped my first and only string - the E string while tuning it on the first day I got my violin. However, as Ricky Nelson would’ve said, “But it’s all right now, I’ve learned my lesson well.” 😢
This is such a good video Alison. Very informative. I've just purchased the micro tuner that you reccommended and it's brilliant and I've also managed to get the app on my iPhone too, which was fantastic news. Just purchased your 1-30 Violin Course too, which I'm excited to start.
You were talking about the fine tuners being used for practice. How do you, I guess reverse them? If the fine tuners are gettng "used up" how do you get everything even again? I know that probably doesn't make sense but I don't know the words to use. Can you feed string back from tuner to peg?
You simply unwind them, then you have to tune them via the pegs. I briefly covered this at some point in the video I think - I didnt demonstrate though. Perhaps I can make a separate video on that....
Good morning Alison. I have a question I have 3 different ways of tuning my violin one way is the chromatic tuner 92 - D that came with the violin, the other 1 is a shark. And the other 1 is a phone app each 1 shows a different reading I don't understand why should I just stay with 1 and go that way or what? Help me help me please thank you
Are they all listing to. your violin and telling you whether its in tune or not as its going to depend on where they are? Is the app on your violin picking up the closest and strongest vibrations? If not, then its not going to be as accurate as the others. This is why I prefer the tuner I use in the video as its the most accurate tuner I have found. Bottom line, as long as its 'in tune' you can crack on :)

Loved this, my violin had been sitting for years, so took my time. Now when I go to start again, it will be ok. Fingers crossed.
My 🎻 string popped off and hit me in my eye. Is that normal 🤔👁💥
That was awesome! ✌️🎻 Thankyou 👍
Fantastic
Wish I'd seen this before I broke a string :-) (Yes I'm a guitarist)
This made me laugh because I was worried about doing this myself 😄. I’m used to guitars as well.
Really amazing video 😉
I just love ur accent!

Hi Alison,I’m a beginner and I don’t know why my violin is so quiet every time I play.Is the bridge or my bow making it quiet? Please reply and thanks!
Have you got enough rosin on the bow?
Ok,I did lots of rosin on my bow and now it’s louder! Thanks a lot!😌

You have to slightly push in the peg as you turn.
