Hey brother thank you for making the jig available for free. I bought two stencils and I will get two more later. I have learned a lot from your videos!
I started making these flags last week and it has been so relaxing putting them together. I used another guys method, the reason I went the route I did was bc he shared every measurement with his subscribers. I now have 6 flags waiting for the stars to be applied. I'm gonna try to dremel them out but I'm considering buying the correct size stars for each flag just to speed up the whole process. But anyhow bud I like your videos and flags. Keep up the great work!!
Sean Seta thank you for taking the time to let me know that. It’s always good to hear back from my watchers and see how I help them and feedback. And thanks for your service sir!!
very impressive I like how deep your flag is. I saw so many different techniques, thanks, I would love to build one of these flags, but it was a lot of work, you would need a lot of tools, but thanks for making it possible for me to make it.
Hey David, got a sealer question for you. I don’t have a hvlp sprayer so I am stuck between spray can or brushing on a sealer. Since I also use the 3D stars I am curious your opinion on what to use to seal. Brushing on polycrilic is a bit rough because it wants to puddle around the stars when the brush hits them. Then the tedious task of sanding between coats of brush on poly is not fun. Would you recommend a spray can laquer and doing 2-3 coats and not having to sand or another spray can sealant like spar urethane. Not a big fan of the Minwax poly spray cans. Want a good shine and seal but the raised stars make things a bit tough time wise. TY.
Well the can method is quite expensive. If you can afford it I would suggest an electric airless spray gun. I know that’s is not always the case so you can also try brushing before you put the stars on. After it is totally dry then put them on and spray just those to seal them. If you do that use a different type of glue like CA glue and pin nail the stars on because wood glue won’t adhere well to the sealed finish. Hope this helped
Hello, I just recently discovered your channel and have been watching your videos. In fact, I can't even tell how many times I've watched this particular one (lol). As a retired U.S. Army Warrant Officer, I don't have to tell you the kind of high regards that I hold our flag in. I dabble a little bit in woodworking and really enjoy watching your approach to making the flags. Thank you for supporting the people that continue to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep America the greatest country this side of the universe. Cheers!
Eltee954 absoltely brother. As a fellow Law Enforcement Officer I have the upmost patriotism and love for this country and it's people as a Deputy Sheriff!!! Thanks for the shout out and keep on keepin on brother!!!
Hey Dave thank you for your instructional video especially the one about the jig you use. I’ve been making flags here in NY and I’ll probably take the time to make your jig or a version of it to help me save some time in constructing them. I do “regular” flags and a Thin Blue Line version generally 19.5” X 37” As a retired police officer and veteran I think your company is awesome. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. It does save a ton of time and makes the flags easy to get square and flat. Check out an upcoming video and my Etsy shop on a new template I have for sale that makes the stars easy to lay out and perfect.
A quick question for you. In the jig plans, you start with a 37.5 inch long piece of plywood.... then you put a 1.5 inch furring strip on it. But, the flag is 37.5 inches. What am I missing?
This was an oversight on measuring when I first built it. But I ended up liking the way it came out being shorter. It works great and can be modified if you like to accommodate a full bed.
Michael Orlando haven’t had one issue. For one this is pine, second it usually shrinks a little bit in low humidity which just creates very small gaps between the stripes that were not there before hand. It’s not noticeable and once the humidity returns it just goes back to the original. That is the reason I don’t glue them up as a panel.
I see that you have an older Delta planer. I have a 22-540 and the rollers are worn so much the they won't keep the boards down and leave snipe throughout the board. The rollers are very expensive! I don't know of any way to "refurbish" the rollers. Do you? Nice flag!
+C Green your only allowed to build your own flags like mine if you Subscribe, comment, like, and share every video I EVER make. Good luck and thanks for the support 😂
I gotca... I'm working on a flag as we speak... I'm doing the stars with a dreaml tool but will be putting a frame around it and use a french cleat to hang
Will do I just started following you (moodymade3) I'll tag you in a pic once i get done... Hope to have stickers soon ill get you one of them to if you like... thanks man
What do you use for the red on your flags? I made one using high temp spray paint from auto zone, for exhaust manifolds and headers. It turned out really cool the grain comes through without distorting the color at all. Check it out sometime. It only seems to work with the red though.
+snipercanez now that I have a system and as long as I can work without interruption I can have one done beginning to end in a day. I usually batch out several at a time
I love your flags. I've watched your videos more than a few times. I made my own flag but had to use paint instead of stain. I went to my local Lowes and they were unable to make red or blue stain. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your time!
Steve Alexander I don’t know why they could make it. Doesn’t make much sense. They have a Minwax board with all the colors that you can get and those should definitely be on there. Maybe try Home Depot.

How much should I ask for flags like this? I've made 3, 19.5x37", and 2 18x30" flags. IDK what to try to charge. I thought about 25-30 bucks but was told I was dumb if I didn't ask 50 a pop...that seems like a lot. The quality is good..but is 50 too high like I think or am I really low balling myself? Thanks
James Fitch you have to take into account your area or where you are selling, the quality or maybe the artistic value(how much do people like your piece), materials, and most importantly your time( which is based again on how much people like your art). But either way that is too low and you are screwing over all woodworkers that sell because people just wanna go cheapest.
@@DwoodStudios I deffinatly don't want to screw any woodworkers by low balling them. What size lumber do you rip for the strips?
1.5 inch wide. Check out my website for free plans
@Dwood Studios I guess my question was when you purchase lumber from home depot what do you purchase to rip to 1.5 inch
What is the name of the stain you used for the gold/yellow line. I can't seem to find one i like. Thank for the guidance.
