But he was living, and he was determined to live if for no reason other than pure spite. Every day was the same, get up, get moving, gather what you can, avoid zombies, find somewhere safe to sleep. Rarely did something unexpected come into play. Occasionally someone would yell, no doubt devoured because of a loose can, or creaking floorboards. And life was good, Not as good as before the outbreak, he would often find himself thinking. That, of course all seemed like some intangible dream. But this life did certainly have its charms as much of a living nightmare as it was. Killing things that looked human was never what he would describe as optimal. The daydream would be interrupted, violently, screaming. Nothing new, but its proximity was. If he wasn't mistaken it could be right out his window. And it was, another man had climbed atop a car and was panicking as more and more of the undead shambled towards him. It was pitiful, truly. And maybe that's why he decided to help the man. He didn't quite know himself, something just screamed in the back of his mind "You can't just let him die." A scuffle ensued, and by the end the only ones left standing were the strange man, and his saviour. But he wasn't alive. Not for much longer in any case. He had been bitten, he knew from experience how this ends. As he stared at the crimson flowing from his arm, it wasn't anger that washed over him. Which he expected.
