- China Airlines (中華航空)... The World's MOST BEAUTIFUL Business Class
There are premium classes, and then there is China Airlines. This airline stunned the aviation industry when it revealed their business class revamp back in 2016. The collective reaction was a gasp of amazement from everyone. It looked absolutely fantastic in photos, and trust me when I say it looks even better up close and personal.
Paired together with the excellent Taiwanese hospitality, in-flight service was simply amazingly impeccable. And then there's the catering. I cannot give it any more thumbs up because I only have a pair.
Follow me as I bring you through this 5th freedom flight done right, between Brisbane and Auckland. Prepared to be wow-ed.

Hi guys, the upgrades for Brisbane Airport to cater for the Olympics was announced AFTER I completed and loaded this video. So be kind, and don't flame me. 😂 Cheers.

I lost it at the Volder-Dutton moment.🤣🤣
We have Tanya to thank for that. Every time I see Dutton, that's all I see!
the intro haha, 厲害
09:50 summed up all my CI, CZ, CA and MU flights 🤣
Hahahaha.... I'm currently mulling over MU's SYD AKL. If I do that, I just might do my intro in Shanghainese as well! 🤣
Yeah those airlines you mentioned, boarding tends to be extra chaotic. I wonder why...?
I love your humour in the videos! Always speak the truth in your reviews! I wonder if you have a day job besides TH-cam that allows you to use all those amazing languages?
Hahahaha nah I'm pretty much English the entire way in my day job. ☺️
Pork belly stew is definitely a comfort food in Malaysia
Oh man tell me about it... Tau yew bak...
BNE airport is undergoing a transformation for 2032 Olympics starting this week with domestic terminal upgrades followed by a completely new international terminal adjacent to domestic. All work expected to be ready by the end of 2030.
Yes! These announcements were made AFTER I finished making this video. My bad. I'm excited to see the eventual plan come to fruition.
overstuffed? you mean too many of personnel? That is so rare nowadays, many companies are suffering from shortage of npersonnel! Be grateful and be respectful!
China Airlines is my airline of choice in biz across the Pacific. I fly out of YVR and their product is great. Glad you enjoyed!
I'm flying them again in Nov on a longer flight. This time in economy class ... Suppose that the true test of how good an airline is. Somehow, I suspect they'd fare very well.
That was fab, had never thought of China Airways
Now you know, you can fly them to NZ. Redemptions on QANTAS also puts you in their planes on flights to Taiwan and Japan.
It appears that the "China Girl" is much better than "Singapore Girl"
I was totally disappointed with the 'cold' and unattentive cabin service on all 4 Singapore Airlines flights recently.....and I'm talking of their biz class.
Singapore Airlines of today is NOT that of yester years 🙄
For me, it's all marketing hype today.
Sorry, for divulging from subject of China Airlines.
I too am very keen in giving it a try. Maybe by taking a roundabout way from Sydney to Singapore.via TaoYuan 🙂
If you've ever been to Taiwan and experienced the service culture there, you'll understand why China Airlines is such. It just comes so naturally to them. Whereas with SQ, the service style has to be enforced. Sadly, business class cabin is where a lot of economy class FAs get trained for their next progression in premium service. So if you're unlucky enough to get a flight with such trainings going on, you'll experience that sort of off brand service because they're still learning.
Great reviews! China airlines had just announced to fly MEL-AKL route on trans Tasman from Dec! Looking forward that CI add on more capacity and competitive price and service that benefits Kiwis and Aussies.
Yes! MEL to AKL is definitely very exciting news. I wonder if BNE to AKL will remain though?
Love China Airlines!! I fly them SFO-TPE every summer, and the last couple summers I've had the chance to try their business class. Amazing in every part imo. Even when I take them in economy or premium economy, it's awesome. Makes for a comfortable 13 hour flight
Just the cabin decor alone is enough for me! Truly beautiful!
I cannot use chopsticks. You can imagine my endless embarrassment in Asian restaurants! Though the staff never seem to mind or even notice! Thank you for the video!
Hahahaha... You know what the irony is? Although I'm ethnically Chinese, I only learnt how to use the chopsticks properly when I went to the USA. 🤷
business class is a very fine and beautiful experience flights, i remember first time flying experience.
There something about Taiwanese hospitality which is so gentle. Absolutely love it.
Informative and hilarious. I love your vlogs
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
Nice review. Thank you so much for sharing. China Airlines is an airlines on my list to try and Taiwan a country I'd love to visit one day soon - maybe sooner rather than later LOL. Look forward to your next review.
Taiwan is such a beautiful country. They're similar to Thailand, friendly people, affordable food, and even the exchange rate between currencies are similar.
Great review as always Ryan!
That suite looks incredible
Glad you enjoyed, Sam! Thanks for watching!
it looks wonderful, did you use qantas points? and if you did how did you select your seat??? (asking for m... a friend lol) It really does look a wonderful business class cabin. im looking forward to flying them next May all things going well. the food looks amazing. interesting the comparison with Korean Airlines and the crashes due to the top down approach to authority. I remember an air crash investigation into one crash where the co pilot realised they were going to crash and yet couldnt let the pilot know! another great review sir Ryan.
Howdy Andy, no I booked this directly with CI. BNE-AKL with CI is not bookable via QF because there's no code share, so no points and SCs. Thus, seat selection was done directly with CI on their website. AUD 860 one way
vs QF's bullshit AUD 1300 on a clapped out domestic configured 737. Go figure!
Hi Ryan
As a Brisbane local who frequently travels on flights arrival into the international terminal, contrary to your statements in this video I've rarely experienced long lines neither at immigration (thanks to passengers being directed to the Smartgates for a liberal number of countries) nor at customs.
In regards to the Olympics, Brisbane won't be the only arrival point for olympians and spectators with several events and accommodation on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts in addition to Brisbane.
That's great to know! I must've been unlucky then. Twice when I arrived into BNE with SQ, it was pretty chaotic.
Keep plodding along and make more videos Ryan!
Thanks mate for popping by. Cheers!
A fellow yellow 😂
Hahahahaha.... Well I am/was a fellow yellow to those smiling ladies at the door! 🤣
Indeed 👍
Agreed with your assessment and enjoyed your review. In my J class flight from KUL to Rome vi Taipei and subsequently Vienna to KUL (via Taipei) in September, hot towels were certainly distributed. The A350 J class design (in your video) is more nicer than the B777 J class. Same layout and 1-2-1 design but with darker seat fabrics, darker overall ambience and without the claw foot table lamp in the latter.
Thanks for sharing! Yes CI presents a very compelling product especially when they are usually the more affordable option. I'm still waiting to snag some award seats to or from Taipei next year!
we flew china airlines to beijing beautiful staff great flight yep was air china
Thanks for the report! Flying China Airlines is on my wishlist, combined with visiting Taiwain. Wishing you all the best from The Netherlands
You're lucky CI does AMS-TPE! Thanks for watching, cheers!
Last month I flew China Airlines from Los Angeles to Taipei, a 14.5 hour adventure. I agree with your observations on the beauty of the cabin and the attentiveness of the flight attendants. It did not appear to be an issue being an English speaker. We did get hot towels by the way. Maybe they watched your video! Food was amazing, and as I had pre-selected my meal with some ambivalence I asked if I might get a taste of the Gung Pau Pork Belly. No such luck, I was brought two complete meals! Both were wonderful, and complemented by a little Kavalan. The flight back was equally lovely. Yes, the seats are a bit narrow, but not to the point of discomfort. Altogether a very nice and memorable experience. I have many more miles and experiences flying Lufthansa, and can say that this was comparable in all departments except for the food service, which was superior.
Ever since this trip, I've been trying to score an award seat on a longer flight but sadly to no avail.
Had no idea China Airlines did this leg. What other overseas airlines do interstate and short hops to NZ. Latam to NZ, Emirates to NZ(?), China Airlines to NZ.... I think I read Emirates does Adelaide to Darwin(?)....... what else is there?
Nah, no foreign airlines are allowed interstate domestic flights. Cabotage isn't allowed in Australia. Trans Tasman though, besides those you mentioned... We also have Qatar (they're ending ADL AKL soon), and China Eastern is also starting SYD AKL on 23rd Nov.
Ryan I'm a new subscriber but I have watched alot of your videos in the past
You videos are so well edited and the voice over sexy and funny
Ah the Kiwi accent ah...No but a laugh anyway
China airlines has most definately improved in all aspects
The food look amazing I was lying in bed jealous as
The Business class cabin is inviting and reflects a comfortable ombience
I might have to use QF points to fly to and from BNE from Perth and try China airlines trans tasman service.
I to did not want the video to end but all good things don't last forever
Catch you on your next adventure

Ha thanks for your support! 🤣🙏
My wife and I flew in economy with China Airlines return from Shanghai Pudong to Taipei Taoyuan in 2016. The forward journey was in a near new B777 in a very brownish looking cabin and the return in a cabin with more traditional decor. Flight departures in both directions were substantially delayed by the seemingly inevitable congestion at airports in China. Otherwise, the in-flight service was good.
We had originally planned a Sydney-Taipei-Shanghai-Sydney itinerary booking with Qantas and using a code share flight with China Airlines on the first leg. This would take advantage of the 144 hour visa-free transit stay in Shanghai. However Qantas offered a somewhat cheaper return ticket to Shanghai so we did the return flight across the water to Taiwan and had two visa-free stays in the region around Shanghai.
That sounds like a fun trip! When you travel to countries like China / Taiwan, you suddenly realise how sparsely populated Australia is! 🤣
What a cool cabin design! I hope to try it out someday. It’s interesting how many international carriers fly between NZ and Australia, so you can get an experience not from either of those countries.
Yeah there are some interesting 5th freedom carriers across the Tasman. I flew back to Australia with LATAM Airlines and there are 2 videos already up about that experience...
The meal looked fantastic.
So good, I could eat that again and again! Yummo...
Yes it's an impressive business class Ryan. Here in Europe both CI and BR have little market identity unless heading to Taipei or using one of their fifth-freedom flights to Bangkok. These two really expanded once they introduced neutral liveries to downplay their Taiwanese identity.
Indeed... When CI had a Taiwanese flag on her tail in the old livery, they could not fly to a lot of places. Such a pity politics play such a huge role in this. Thanks for popping by! Cheers...
Great review 👍
Thanks for popping by, mate! Cheers!
The transition to "fly across the ditch" was 👌🏼😅
Another great vlog bud!!
Hahahaha.... Thanks mate!
Love that food reaction! 😂
I had many preconceptions of China Airlines which you have managed to dispell.. and I thank you for that 😊
Hahahaha well, that pork belly was EVERYTHING! YUM!
Think the issue with China Airlines is most people confuse them with Air China, which isn't a great airline. Cheers!
Thanks for the great review. Can’t wait to try it on my upcoming flight from TPE to MEL in February!
I'm officially envious ! I'd fly CI again in a heart beat. Enjoy your flight!
It was a first for me when I heard that China Airlines was the flag carrier of Taiwan as I thought that it would be Eva Air(due to it being top 10 best airlines in the world). But again, the Taiwanese do claim the entirety of mainland China so I aint surprised.
CI was always the official flag carrier. BR is Taiwan's first private airline and was always thought to be the better one. Now CI has come and overtook them, and I have not even mentioned Starlux yet.... Another Taiwanese gem of an airline.
@@ryansofly Taiwanese airlines>>>>>Chinese airlines
Excellent video! I just managed to redeem some QFF points for MEL - TPE - NRT on China Airlines. Always love your content. Keep it up 👍
I've tried unsuccessfully to get award seats on China Airlines thru QF. I blame it on my silver status. I eventually gave up and that's how I ended up in NZ instead of Taiwan (the original plan).
@@ryansofly I am bronze lol. It had to be way in advance. Some availability in September next year I think? I am going in august
logo's facing the passenger is VERY Singapore airlines style.
Indeed it is! If the supervisor walks by and notices otherwise, the crew actually gets written up and this means to demerit points in their records. Most, if not all airlines from that region are all very stringent about little details like that.
Great video Ryan, will need to try myself soon!
Go for it! They're slightly cheaper than QF across the ditch.
love the designs and styles ❤
It is very stunning. I'll be flying their economy class product soon...
Hello ex-Singaporean, loved your video...lol!!
Ha! Thanks for popping by!
I'm flying this in 2 weeks (JFK-TPE)! Cannot be more excited!
I'm excited for you! Enjoy! Lemme know how it turns out!
@@ryansofly Will do! 18 hours on a 777! I couldn't say no to flying in the front! For context, Ive been to Taiwan 5 times and even lived there for 6 months and haven't been back since the start of the pandemic, so this will be a very special trip for me. I've been looking for China Airlines reviews in their long haul business class, very well done!
I enjoyed my Bne Akl economy flight with them 😊
Great to hear!
Great little video
Thanks for watching!
Love your in depth commentary!
Thanks for watching!
Who's the camera operator a 2m18s? I feel like I've met them somewhere in my travels?
He's my friend, Tim. One half of Tim & Leanne on Gogglebox.
@@ryansofly riiiiight .... well I haven't met Tim but hi if you see this comment ;) Funny how that sense of familiarity come through I'm sure there's a psychological term for that too! :P
24:02 WHEN AIR CHINA MEETS WITH CHINA AIR...
Indeed... Hahaha
Haha your face as you put that first bite of pork belly in your mouth. 😋
Looks like you had a great flight.
The only criticism I have of those planes is those tiny windows that look like such an afterthought- for some of us, window seats are a must and so is looking out the window as much as possible during the flight.
The best windows are on the 787. Huge. Pork belly is my best friend. Yummo.
Ryan needs new underwear at 18:09...
That satisfaction was very similar... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is pretty cabin
It's one of the better looking ones I've experienced. Beautiful!
G'day Ryan. I tried the Jetstar business class bangkok to Melbourne yesterday. Still in two minds about it. Was on time but lack good service by crew and the food was no less than terrible.
Oh no.... But hey, it still beats cattle class any day eh?
Fellow Yellow😂❤😂
Haha well I am! 🤣
Great report!
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
You Hokkien beng, I Teochew moi. 😂
Hahaha.... That hokkien isn't even our hokkien. I learnt it from my Taiwanese friend and I practiced till the cows came home before the trip began.
@@ryansofly Yeah. SG hokkien is a little more chor. I used to hear it when my Ji Gou (二姑) used to watch Taiwanese dramas on TV.
@@j0n3sing yeah same for my relatives in Xiamen. Their spoken hokkien is similar to Taiwan's. SG is already mixed with a lot of malay words like sabun (soap) and kawin (married).
What is the link to your foodie video with Tim?
