Ranking Every FIFA's Career Mode!

- Hey, welcome to another tier list video, today we’re ranking every career mode from FIFA 08 until FIFA 23. I’ll be ranking them based on both gameplay and how good career mode was at the time. Check out the link in the description if you’d like to give it a go yourself!
Because they’re fresher in my mind, we’ll start with FIFA 14, move forward to FIFA 23 and then finish off the early years at the end of the video.
FIFA 14
The first thing you notice with FIFA 14, is how the gameplay feels decades older than FIFA 15. Headers are OP, passing is terrible and players feel really clunky.
Nostalgia makes you remember Career mode better than it actually was, teams would regularly win the league with 60 points, top scorers would hit 15 goals and you could train goalkeepers by 20 overall per season.
Career mode does function well, but the lack of depth and pretty abysmal gameplay means we’ll start off with a low score. Unlucky FIFA 14.
FIFA 15
Weirdly the total opposite of FIFA 14, on FIFA 15 players with high pace and dribbling are amazing, while slow strong players are useless.
This is the first game made for the PS4 / Xbox One era of consoles, it feels and looks a lot more modern than FIFA 14.
Despite being an upgrade, its still not actually a good game.
FIFA 16
Yet again the gameplay does a total switchup, having strong players in your midfield guarantees you’ll win 90% of duels, even if the attacker is stronger.
Dribbling is painfully slow and skill moves become the easiest way to move fast. In particular the McGeady spin is so much quicker than dribbling that its a joke.
The game is actually difficult to beat the AI on, which I think is a massive positive of the game. The AI knows how to use the overpowered parts of gameplay, something modern FIFA AI’s have to cheat to do.
FIFA 17
First game on the frostbite engine, can tell theres a leap in basically every aspect.
The menus are better, but things like training, youth development and transfers are still the exact same. I think FIFA 17 was also the last time that manager objectives actually made sense.
The career mode part of the game isn't groundbreaking, but i’m rating this game as legendary because of how much of a step forwards the gameplay actually was.
FIFA 18
I noticed this pattern while playing every FIFA game. The even numbered games, so 14, 16, 18 and 20 all had similar physicality based gameplay. The odd numbered games were all fast pace dribbling based games. I’m not sure if theres two studios inside EA working on these games, but it would make sense.
The main feature in career mode this year was transfer cutscenes. They’re nice a few times, but they do slow down career mode a lot. Personally I always preferred the transfers taking place over a few days, not being able to fully complete a transfer within a day.
FIFA 19
Off the pitch FIFA 19 is a pretty big improvement, the Champions League, a dozen new Spanish stadiums and adding Ultimate difficulty and we went back to high speed passing and dribbling based gameplay.
I dont know if because its such a recent game, but I didnt feel much nostalgia playing FIFA 19. The teams are interesting, Sancho, Reus and Haaland were really cool to use, but unlike FIFA 14, 15 and 17, i’m not looking forward to playing it again.
I know it’s common to hate FIFA 19’s gameplay, but in career mode it was actually quite enjoyable. I remember hating FUT, but we’re not really factoring that in today.
FIFA 20
I hated this game. I played it for about 30 hours in 2020, which compared to the 600-1000 hours I usually spend playing FIFA just shows how bad the game really was. From a poll i posted a few days ago, over half of the 23,000 votes said this was the worst game of the past 5 years, and i fully see why.
Career mode is basically the exact same as FIFA 19, but gameplay is horrible. There's nothing enjoyable about constant AI cheating, pathetically slow passing, pace, strength and dribbling all not mattering at all and a thousand other issues I have with this game.
Lets just throw it in bottom tier and forget this game ever existed.

i got tired of modern fifas and tried 13. It was my best gaming experience this summer! I had a blast
I've been playing 13 since it came out until now I probably have thousands of hours in it. Its a perfect game imo

It was like a replica of fifa 12 but with bad gameplay cause they were trying to change it, They finally figured it on fifa 14

17 is always my go to old FIFA game whenever get frustrated with or bored with whatever current version is out.

Fifa 07 was great.
There were great options for RTG (Hereford United, Libourne, Torquay), rebuilds (Napoli and Juventus were in Serie B), you could invest in the club, the simulated marches were great to follow and the Youth Academy wasn't absurd.
Juventus was easy they had the highest budget
Fifa 07 had great features, like choosing the sponsor at the start of the season

I’m actually playing a fifa 17 career mode with Monaco at the moment and I can confirm it is a masterpiece. The only other one I would put in this tier is Fifa 13. I remember doing a career mode with santos mainly because Neymar and that blue Santo’s kit. The brasilian league was in the game with players like Ronaldinho, Ganso, Vagner Love, Lucas Moura, Bernard etc. Vibes unmatchable. I’m surprised because I actually enjoyed fifa 20 career mode. My most fun saves were with Brentford getting the promotion to the premier league with that unforgettable front trio of Benrahma Mbeumo and Watkins and a club and country save using only players from portugal. Unfortunately I don’t think I’m buying EAFC 24 but certainly I will continue to follow your great great work!

I'll be honest I spent hours on 08 playing carrer mode and, this may be nostagia but I enjoyed that you managed the whole club in a sense.
Setting ticket prices, upgrading staff, sponsors, choosing little adventure game style text boxes that had consequences for your squad, upgrading your players with points they would earn after matches and being able to craft the players you want rather than scouting.
While I understand it's more "realistic" now especailly with the gameplay being literal lightyears behind, the old charm and closeness to the team and players felt better than the investor like atmosphere of the newer ones.
In short, I would like to see you give 08 career mode a video or even some of the older ones, be it for my own selfish nostalgia or any curosity sparked by this comment.

Yeah he's too young and used to mediocrity to understand when Career Mode actually had some level of effort put into it. Back around 08 was the golden age for career mode

Fifa 23 seemed amazing for me due to the fact that I never really played fifa 21 or 22 i used to play fifa 18 so I saw it as a big jump in career mode so it's my favorite!

Modern Fifa is just so boring and dead, it's sad to see our childhoods transform from fun to opening packs and doing sbc’s every second day
FIFA 07 and 12 is where it's at for me. FIFA 07 made me fall in love with Barcelona and I supported them ever since, while FIFA 12 is just pure arcade fun.
FIFA 07 is also what made me fall in love with Barcelona
The worst thing about fifa 20 imo is how the better team always won in simulations. You'd get into situations where the top 3 or 4 teams of a league would win every single game and always draw each other, making it impossible to keep up because of the scripting involved, even if you controlled one of those 3 or 4 teams yourself. It was impossible to not drop any points against the bad teams for the entire season

FIFA 20 was alright, ruined by the fact that every big side in each league wouldn't lose a single game so you could never win a title.
FIFA 22 had really good gameplay imo, but then got absolutely ruined by the manager rating glitch and the fact the UCL glitches caused by EA removing the Russian teams.
FIFA 23 was ruined by the depleted name pool for regens/youth scouts and the fact that every game apparently needs to finish 5-5.
FIFA 21 is my current go-to as it seems to have the best balance of decent gameplay mixed with it actually working instead of being glitched.
All these games could've been great if EA weren't lazy shit stains who apparently don't understand what beta testing is for.
In fifa 20 it was better that big sides never lost games, the title fights were insane

My favorite ones are fifa 17 and Fifa 19 for career mode
FIFA 14 has a broken gameplay game, but was the first year of some very new career mode features. I really enjoyed it, however I was in year 9 with no responsibilities so it might nostalgia haha
And the other memorable one for me was FIFA 17. Again, was a big jump in features and gameplay was superb
New career mode features? Pre contract signings, global transfer network which was terrible. And what else?
FIFA 13 was the goat in my opinion. Played every single year since FIFA 08 and 13 stands out to me, followed by 17 and then 15. 11 also good for nostalgiac reasons
FIFA 23 has probably been one I've played the most, mainly because I found some good sliders and had more fun doing some challenging careers, instead of just playing as my usual favorite teams that are often dominant in their leagues.
But the slider bug that EA apparently just refused to patch at any point over the last year was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I know bugs are tough to track down sometimes, but how EA was either unable or unwilling to patch out a bug that wiped your settings nearly every time you closed and re-opened the game is beyond me. This was an issue on both PC and PS4, and to me, is just unacceptable from a company with the resources EA has.
I might come back for FIFA 24 and see if things have improved, but once my EA Play subscription runs out at the end of the month, I'll have to big FIFA farewell for a while.

@@cristiandora9955 Definitely! This one's easy. Just hit up "Operation Sports FIFA 23 sliders" and it will take you to the page where they have sliders for all difficulties and slow/normal play.
They have adjustments you can make if it's too hard/easy, and I've found them to be pretty solid.
You'll still get some games where it's a 5-3 defensive nightmare, but then other games will have you struggling to hold a 0-0 draw against stronger sides and try to sneak a goal in with the chances you get.

Who remembers Fifa 13 11 star scouts and all of the youth Academy players have random heights and weights. For example, one player could be 198cm and 50 kg but the next player is 160cm and 110kg in fifa 13

I was such a fan of the improvement from 14-15 it really felt like they upgraded a lot. 17 was great and 22 and 23 have both been solid a few cheating mechanics from cpu’s
FIFA 07 had God-tier career mode.

I couldn’t complete a full season of my career modes in Fifa23 so I got Fifa17 and enjoyed it a lot more than 23

Was browsing through some old stuff found my old PS3 with fifa 09 loaded it up and damn felt good with all the nostalgia hitting
FIFA 14 is my favorite. The only real big problem of gameplay was OP headers, but I managed to fix that with sliders and playing full manual. Visuals are reaaaally dated tho. 16's gameplay could be ok if it wasn't for the infuriating AI behavior. 15 is a sprint fest, no good. 13 was fun. Every FIFA since 18 has been terrible and totally worthless.
Being able to work my way up to captain my club and country in FIFA 09 was awesome
My favourites would have to be FIFA 10, 15, 17, and 18. My least favourites FIFA 16, 20, and 22. Everything else in between was so-so. Never played anything prior to 10 except for 05 which was fun at the time but has such terribly outdated gameplay now that it is unplayable.
I have only played 21-23(soon 24) because i had only recently got a gaming console and never got to play older fifas,i have just a bundle of 08 to 15 from a yard sale and i can say older fifas are miles clear of newer ones
You have got to do a FIFA 12 or 13 career mode series it’s one of the best career modes fifa have ever created 🙏🏾

I started playing FIFA 17 and it's legit the best decision I could have made. I love it
I really enjoyed 16. You could easily run slower players with high strength and it felt natural. Long time fans hated how "slow" it felt back when it came out, but I find that style gameplay very refreshing.
Icl I rlly miss making random championship goalies 85+ overall on fifa 14

My favorites will always be 07 and 09, for me those have the best FIFA career modes ever, they were just perfect.
Liked the analysis but career mode is much more than just the gameplay. For instance, in older career modes when you started as a manager you could only choose certain teams until you got more experience and you could select a sponsor that granted you different benefits. Also, you earned money each local game so salaries after a visitant game would leave your team almost at cero if you had a big star. Much more realism just in that, the devil is in the details. Something that FIFA has lost over the years, sadly.

Personally, I like 20. because I played 13,14 at those days and stopped playing ages and after quarintine it became my go-to game everydays. now i play 21 22 24, so it was a decent comeback for me

Fifa 07, 13 and 14 were all great! Fifa 13 being my favorite. My pc was barely able to run it at the time!
Fifa 20 was fine, but that was probably because I played it non stop during the COVID lockdown 😂

I played every career mode from fifa 07 to ea fc 24. Till fifa 16 I played all of them very, very much. Fifa 17 it started to be boring... it was just the same with little improvements. Obviously there arent many differences to expect between two fifa games, but the improvements between fifa 17 and ea fc 24 just dont excite me, which is sad because as a kid I did nothing else than playing career mode. So each of the modern games I only played like 3 seasons and then stopped.
My favourite one is fifa 13, as it introduced international management which I always dreamed about while playing fifa 07. Your players always went to international games but you couldnt manage a national team? Glad that this came. Also it was the last game where it was possible to view a players rating without scouting. I just dont understand why there isnt an option to turn it off? Sure its a nice challenge, but what is the point of it when so many people go on sofifa or whatever site and check for players with high potential and suitable players for their teams?
In my opinion fifa 18 and 19 were the best. I had the best memories on those.
They both had a career mode glitch dat made ai hardly win the league with above 82pts
I hope they bring back the sponsorship mechanics and fans wanting us to buy a certain players back in the near future....

My top 3 fifas are 3.Fifa 21 2.Fifa 19 1. Fifa 15 career mode has never had enough attention on any fifa looks pretty much the same in ea fc
I have a PS3 and i got tired of Fifa 19 so i tried older versions the best for me is Fifa 16.
But im gonna try Fifa 14 right now as its the only one that i haven't tried and is said to be the best.(I jumped from Fifa 13 to Fifa 15)

15-18 are all probably interchangeable to be honest, FIFA 20 is the last one I actually enjoyed playing.
Probably played the last 3 combined, less than I’ve played 14, 16, 17, 18, & 20 separately. Didn’t really play 15 much as I only really played it in my friends house or when my 16 disc broke, but it’s definitely up there.
FIFA 12 his notalgic, but FIFA 15 was and is still my favorite
12 & 15 are hands down the two best ones bro 💯
I had so many legendary career modes on 12 and got so good at it. Starting to get that with 15 as well

It feels like you're mostly grading the gameplay and not the actual career modes
This feels more like a review of the gameplay, not features that made the game fell like a career mode. I usually simmed games and focused more on team building so FIFA 14-17 were my favorite….curent fifa just fell like an offline ultimate team 😢
18 was a downgrade. Nothing changed other than the transfer cut scenes, which were pretty shit and I only delegated unless if I needed a transfer that day. So your comparing the Fifa 17 transfer system to the fifa 18 delegation, and fifa 17's is more visually pleasing.

I recently went back to play Fifa 19 on Xbox 360 and was amazed that it played so slow and clunky. I then immediately tried Fifa 14 on Xbox 360 and it seemed way more fast paced and fun. If you have never played FIFA 19 on Xbox 360 or PS3 you should try it because I think it has the worst gameplay of all of the FIFAs I’ve played

I don't know why everyone thinks fifa 17 is goated. I think it was bad. The gameplay felt unresponsive and off, playing vs AI was boring and the only notable thing they added to career mode was the manager rankings. Awful, awful, awful.
Don't read this because its talking about useless things you don't need to know but i might be wrong. Fifa 13 CM is the goat compared to the Fifa games in the 08 to 20 era, and I gave a chance for Fifa 19, but fortnite took the L and won that victory royale over fifa 19. Fifa 20 I gave a chance, and the most traumatic experience I ever had was playing career mode in season 2, and I noticed all of my wonder kids with 90+ potential lose their potential in season 2 so fortnite took the L on fifa 20 and the better team always wins in the fifa 20 simulations which is good because you always win but in other games you can have a goat team and lose to a half star team in simulation in all fifas but not fifa 20. Fifa 21 to 23 are in squad with fortnite, and there laughing at 19 and 20. The last 3 games made me fall in love again, but idk who is the goat but if fifa 13 was pes 13 and fifa 21 or 22 or 23 are fifa 13 I feel like I would say fifa 13 is the best because it's fifa 21 or 22 or 23 or I am being unfair to the OG fifa 13 because at the time it's probably the goat compared to 21 or 22 or 23. Fifa 13 ps3 and the last 3 fifa games and fifa 20 wasn't offering me anything so it's the worst fifa game ever but fifa 19 was the same game as 20 but the youth players never lose there potential on 19 but fifa 19 is the 2nd worst fifa game but fifa 19 is closer to the goat of fifa then fifa 20. I forgot about fifa 16 because the best fifa game ever for old players because if you had CR7 in fifa 16 and it's 2023 he would be 95 rated at 38 years old without training but in fifa 17 he would be below 80 rated at 38 years. Fifa 16 is the goat for old players. I wish ea combines the best feature in every fifa CM game in to one because fifa 12 to 20 I never bought old players but 16 it was different and no fifa ever is better then fifa 16 at old players. I wonder how many fifa games has a number 1 ability. Fifa 13 has 11 star scouts and fifa 16 is old players and 21 is training and 22 and 23 is CF free agents plus there is way more.

You can basically put eafc24, fifa 23/22/21 all in the same place because career mode has been copy pasted for all these editions. Heck even the bugs they just copy pasted 🤣🤣
23 for me personally was probably the most enjoyable out of the 4 but they’re all pretty terrible. FIFA 20 wasn’t great but compared to the rest this decade, it’s solid

I exclusively play career mode and all that wasted potential is just so frustrating. I only buy in even years and the ranking of the recent ones I fully remember is:
Fifa 16
Fifa 22
Fifa 14
Fifa 18
Fifa 20
I know that Fifa 16 is not exactly beloved but I really enjoyed it. Every save I started was fun and actually featured ups and downs in the club’s development, where as other games are always just up, which made the eventual successes in Fifa 16 feel so much more earned. Every career I sometimes think back to happened in this game
I played FIFAs only since 19, so for me FIFA 20 is the best ever. FIFA 19 seemed so slow compared to 20. FIFA 21 was ok, 22 is the one I've spent most of my time on and is probably the worst one of them in my opinion and FIFA 23 is great. Didn't play FC 24 yet so we'll see.
