So awesome that you turned it into a fun experience for your son instead of barking about how horrible Disney is & how it "ruined" your visit. To many people ranting & raving when rides stop. Well....better they stop when the computers sense a malfunction than you fly off, eh? Guess all those perfect people who complain have never had a car need repairs either.
I got stuck on Indy once. the car stopped three times in the darkness of the temple, and for some reason it just added to the experience. It's like having the engine quit on us at the worst possible moment, and death is just creeping out of the walls XD
What an upbeat guy. He turned a bit of a bummer into a little adventure. He's also a Lucky guy, he has a couple of great kids and a foxy wife (no disrespect).
I was on it last year and there had been an issue with the ride however we had been waiting in the queue for like an hour so they let us ride at night and when we reached the tallest hill they stopped and let us watch the fireworks :)
That's awesome. On a somewhat related topic, a really great place to watch the fireworks is on the top of the parking structure. Not because the view is great, it's okay. But, you can hear the car alarms all over Anaheim being set off from the explosions.
Some sort of genetic switch that happens as soon as you become a dad. It also gives me the ability to know when someone is standing with the refrigerator door open or changed the setting on the thermostat.
I love how you are making the best out of this situation. I personally love when rides break down as a guest because it's a rare experience and as an employee because it's a nice little break from doing the same thing all day. I haven't done any evacuations like that though, I think it would be kind of fun to do.
You handled that so well! Honestly, breakdowns are one of my favorite little surprises at Disney. If the rides worked perfectly all the time, we'd never get to see the little things that really make the park tick and work smoothly. It's not that I like to "ruin the magic" or anything- quite the opposite. I have a much better appreciation for what are essentially moving works of art that have to hold up to all kinds of stress when I get a peek at what's underneath. Really cool stuff! :D
The only time I've been on a broken down ride at Disneyland was on the Pirates Of The Caribbean. We were stuck directly underneath the burnt down house, with the chair hanging by a thread looming over us. We were stuck there for at least 20 minutes, I was scared shitless because I thought the structure was going to collapse right on top of us. Terrible times.
i went to that one this year it was fine but i got stuck in disneyland boat one like shows tiger snd snakes for like 5 mins cuz they had to shut down electrical thing but were fine
The Disney Cast Member didn't flinch when I asked if my friend and I could take pictures with the Abominable Snowman after the Mattahorn brokedown. The Cast Member even offered to take a few pictures of us together the Beast still in motion. Best ride experience we ever had! Thanks Disneyland!
3:20 very true! I got stuck on Buzz Lightyear in Paris last week, I really enjoy when rides break down, to be honest. I was really surprised that they had railings just pop up from both sides within a split second, all the lights turned on as well. It's a great experience. Unless, well, I guess it's annoying after waiting 2 hours to get in...
Screen Siege Films I was hoping for BTM to break down, just to see how many exit routes they have. It's really impressive to see Disney pay attention to all the details. Even on Tower Of Terror all the newspapers are dated the same as the "accident in the hotel". My younger sister got her head stuck between two bars in a fence in Fantasyland once, and cast just came and flipped the bars up (we later discovered all the bars in fences @ Disneyland can be taken up when a kid gets their head stuck in them)
2 hours? We went last Friday, and it was only a 15 minute wait. To bad most of it all is in French language, if Disney wants more visitors they have to make the attractions more in English and learn their employees better English, some of them couldn't speak it all!!!.
“Aaaaannnnd sorry for the hold up folks, seems to be a slow moving train up ahead, so we gotta sit here for a speil, you just remain seated and we’ll be right with ya!
They don't give you money, but they do give you free stuff on occasion. A cast member gave me cotton candy and a chocolate/peppermint pretzel thing on my 18th birthday at the bakery when my mom was buying me a cupcake after realizing out loud that I didn't get a cake (wasn't complaining, I literally just remembered).
The operator can stop the ride, typically by the second hill like in this video. In another video, the operator stopped this ride, at the same spot as this video, when someone got out of their seat to retrieve their phone. But if this ride was manually stopped by the operator, I wonder what would've caused it. But this was most likely a malfunction.
"oh look the body" my dad was telling me about the person who died on this ride, while I was watching this, as soon as you said that, he said someone died . 0.0
"The wildest ride in the wilderness!" - right before the ride starts. You made it up the first lift, but the second lift stopped working... that was hilarious! Not so wild! I guess in this situation there was no hope in restarting it so they evacuated you which is quite rare at Walt Disney. What a unique experience and thanks for sharing.
Looks like a completely normal ride stoppage to me. No one was in any danger and the ride functioned as designed in a ride stoppage. Could’ve been a unhappy sensor because all it takes is one out of probably one hundred to trigger a ride stoppage. Maybe the computer wasn’t happy with something and shut down the ride. Either way this coaster functioned probably in stopping the ride and the anti rollback did it’s job. People need to be informed that this can happen and it’s designed to happen safely. If a coaster stops on a lift hill it’s okay, if you stop on the mid course break run it’s okay, if you stop on the break run it’s okay. The designers knew sometimes sensors will trip and the ride will shut down and stop the ride as soon as possible. Which means they designed safe places for the coaster to safely stop like this lift hill right here.
I remember at Disney World in Florida at EPCOT my family got stuck for 20 minutes in front of the Mammoth at Spaceship Earth and my brother was really terrified and cried the whole time because it was dark and loud.
My mom and my brother were on Splash Mountain and were about to go down the biggest drop when the ride stopped completely for about 1 1/2 hours. However the animatronics were still saying their lines repeatedly at intervals for the next car up, which never came. So they sat there for all that time with the animals telling them, "Time to turn back! If only you could...?"
Being stuck on a ride when it breaks is actually pretty traumatizing so I wouldn't blame the kid for crying. I was stuck on Sea World's Atlantis for more than fifteen minutes when I was 8. Until that point, I'd always assumed the rides were infallible. Once a young kid learns that the rides can break down, it's hardly a leap for a kid to believe that people could get hurt on a ride. It took me years to get the courage to ride anything with a drop of more than ten feet or speeds of more that 20 mph.
Susan Carroway rides mostly break down for reasons like back ups because people take long to exist or get in , or motion detection usually not because it's "truly" broken so don't be to worried
traumatizing? you might need medical care the rest of your life? come on at least in this particular case it aint the end of the world I'm sure youll live
The last time I was on Space Mountain was with my now ex-girlfriend and it broke down, which was her dream come true. Our vehicle was stopped right before the last turn before you go into the "photo tunnel" but they didn't walk us out that way. What's weird is that when we were walking into the inside portion of the queue, I had a premonition that it was going to break down that time. She took video of our walk out with her iphone and they didn't say a thing. I don't remember getting one of those re-admittance cards but I guess we must have.
I'm really surprised I haven't been on a broke down ride because I've probably been to theme parks about 50 times and been on a lot of rides mostly at Disney! Your lucky because most rides they take you down the maintenance hallways and you get to see how they work!!
Love ReAds. (Or Readmissions Tix). They are awesome for rides with long line up with no fast pass option *cough* toy story mania *cough*. So which ride did u use it on for?
My friend and I almost fell out of this ride. The seat belts were loose and tearing apart. I hope they shut it down and reconstruct it. And splash mountain.
***** It is still closed :( But expect brand new trains, a fresh track and a brand new paint job on the mountain. The ride will be kept exactly the same. He wonders what he could get for it on Ebay!
I have been on splash mountain when broke down. it was cool cuz it broke after we already went around the ride we were a car a way from unloading and we still got fast passes for any ride
one time we had fast passes for the toy story ride and it was me and my family and i forgot to give the dude my fast pass so when we got off i waited a hour and then i tolled my mom and dad i was going to the Bathroom when i was going to GS to see if i can get a fast pass for a different date...and i dida

+Beachside Thanks. Lead by example, I guess. Throwing a fit in such case never fixed anything. Cheers!
+Michael Forrest Exactly! How cool is that?! 😀
I got stuck on Indy once. the car stopped three times in the darkness of the temple, and for some reason it just added to the experience. It's like having the engine quit on us at the worst possible moment, and death is just creeping out of the walls XD
A car derailed in june
I kinda liked it when my ride stopped. Sure it wasted an hour and a half of my life, but I got a fast pass. So you know I could skip a 2hour line.
4:06 " Look the Body" im dying right now LOL
It was hugely inappropriate. And, I'd say it again without hesitation. :-)
omg same 😂
Newblox Studios 9
Ooo I GEt IT LEL
the guy saying YEAHHHHHHH then the kids screaming after LOLL
What an upbeat guy. He turned a bit of a bummer into a little adventure. He's also a Lucky guy, he has a couple of great kids and a foxy wife (no disrespect).
Woot! I got a foxy wife. ;-)
Thanks for the comment.
Justin Jennings haha your one of the best TH-camrs out there
"Oh look! Civilization!" Haha that cracked me up
We don't get out much.
THIS IS MY FAV RIDE even though its not extreme it reminds me of when I was like 5 and I used to love this!
My first trip to Disneyland as a kid this ride had just opened up. So, I have the same attachment.
same here!!! LOVE that ride! i remember eating in a restaurant near it and wanting to ride it. but last time i was there it was under maintenance
I was on it last year and there had been an issue with the ride however we had been waiting in the queue for like an hour so they let us ride at night and when we reached the tallest hill they stopped and let us watch the fireworks :)

Hannah Ridings They let me and my friends do the same x3 It's so cool watching it from there, am I right? XD
the dad jokes are amazing
Some sort of genetic switch that happens as soon as you become a dad. It also gives me the ability to know when someone is standing with the refrigerator door open or changed the setting on the thermostat.
You are the coolest dad ever!
I rode this on 2014... And the new effects are extremely AWESOME! My eyes watered when I got off the ride! xD
The new effects are very nice. I uploaded a video of that too from our last trip.
I love how you are making the best out of this situation. I've always had a fascination with the blending of art and engineering. So, yeah, I totally understand what you're saying.

This guy seems like a great dad! Happy fathers day!
Funniest. Dad. Ever.
"Hey look, the body!" XD
*takes a bow*

i went to that one this year it was fine but i got stuck in disneyland boat one like shows tiger snd snakes for like 5 mins cuz they had to shut down electrical thing but were fine
Brenna Nelson omg me too... Hilarious, we were watching pirates trying to kill themselves for 25 min
Brenna Nelson it always stops there lol
Brenna Nelson lucky. That would be my favorite place to get stuck. Unfortunately I only got stuck on the Buzz Lightyear ride and was escorted off.
"Look! The body!" LOL!!!
Lucky. I've only been on the Haunted Mansion when it broke down, but we didn't have to walk off.
😂
hunted mansion always breaks down, like always, I love when it breaks down, It's the best
You mean... you didn't *get* to walk off. That's a unique experience.
Sir Isaac SAME
@Sir Isaac Same, except for me it was Splash Mountain.
3:20 very true! I got stuck on Buzz Lightyear in Paris last week, I really enjoy when rides break down, to be honest. There are worse things that can happen in life.
I LOVED THUNDER MOUNTAIN!
The first time I went to Disneyland, it was brand new. It holds a special place in my heart.
“Aaaaannnnd sorry for the hold up folks, seems to be a slow moving train up ahead, so we gotta sit here for a speil, you just remain seated and we’ll be right with ya!
My favorite part of this video is where that he is going to tell the Disney theme park employees that bad guys broke the ride
that man going "YEAH, YEAH!!" is so enthusiastic, that is me at Disneyland, so enthusiastic.
"But I'm not saying any funny jokes!" Lol! Ultimate dad
It comes with the guide book.
And even the one in Disneyland Paris does...once a day as far as i can remember :D
Was the video pixacated at times for anyone else?
estella ashleyy yes
The Madder-horn (idk how to spell it haha) broke down when we were there and the people had to walk allllll the way down from the top
The rocknroll rollercoster broke down right before a loop
in my opinion, this is the BEST roller coaster in disneyland
Mine too.
Bestin Games I almost died on that....my lap bar was not down correctly
The operator can stop the ride, typically by the second hill like in this video. In another video, the operator stopped this ride, at the same spot as this video, when someone got out of their seat to retrieve their phone. I love your family!! You guys look like great parents!!!!
No one has taken the kids away. I'm taking that as a good sign.
"oh look the body" my dad was telling me about the person who died on this ride, while I was watching this, as soon as you said that, he said someone died . 0.0
I've been stuck on that hill on Big thunder on two separate occasions. craziness
0:51 The best part! Aka my favorite ride
You guys are lucky not a lot of people who have road that roller coaster won't get to know about what is in the back
"The wildest ride in the wilderness!" - right before the ride starts. You made it up the first lift, but the second lift stopped working... that was hilarious! Not so wild! One of my favorite rides

I would too. Mammoths bites are quite painful.

I'm sorry. But, thanks kind of funny, even if it is nightmare fuel. Thanks for the comment.
Wow you get something. When are they going to do that in Eurodisney?
I like both parks equally and this is comingh from a big disney fan and coming from wales
Nice "Guild of Calamitous Intent" Venture Bros. hoodie around the waste of the guy walking infront of you. =)

Susan Carroway i got stuck for like 10 minutes in seaworld manta last year
Susan Carroway I got stuck on Manta at SeaWorld San Diego a couple times. Was this the same park?
Hey, I was stuck on the X-mas Haunted Mansion ride when I was 7. It was extremely terrifying at the time.
The same way to this one too! Darn it.
This ride breaking down is really nothing to loose your head over now.
That gotta suck but at the same time that's kinda cool.
I'm going to Disney World soon and I cannot literally CANNOT wait!
I hope you make it.
I've been on the rides at Disneyland when they've stopped and stalled but never when they've full out broken down.
disney world rides tend to break down i was in epcot that ball and it broke down
I do feel sorry for you mate about the technical issues with the big thunder mountain ride where u and your family were meant to enjoy it
I been on that ride it was so fun when I saw the drop in said oh dang
The last time I was on Space Mountain was with my now ex-girlfriend and it broke down, which was her dream come true. A comment not often made about me. Thanks for the comment.

I have before and tbh it's kinda fun because like you have no idea what will happen
+phanks før the memøries yeah it would be cool to see behind the scenes of Disney! I need to go back there for old times.
Great video, that go's in my Play List - Disney Ride Break Downs on my TH-cam channel, its neat to see behind the scenes of the ride!
wow, well this is a cool story to tell people
Love ReAds. (Or Readmissions Tix). They are awesome for rides with long line up with no fast pass option *cough* toy story mania *cough*. So which ride did u use it on for?
I think we still have it.
That happened to me and my family at knotts, but it broke down right at the top of the ride
My friend and I almost fell out of this ride. The seat belts were loose and tearing apart. I hope they shut it down and reconstruct it. And splash mountain.
They just recently replaced the track and performed a great deal of refurbishment to the ride in 2013, I think.
***** It is still closed :( But expect brand new trains, a fresh track and a brand new paint job on the mountain. The ride will be kept exactly the same. My father was one of the lead engineers for the '13 refurb. Apparently the old track was loose, cracked and was becoming unsafe. He actually kept a small portion of the old track. He wonders what he could get for it on Ebay!
Great to know. Thanks for the information. Sounds like they're going from mountain to mountain.
i love this ride, i always sit in the front :)
I have been on splash mountain when broke down.
it was cool cuz it broke after we already went around the ride we were a car a way from unloading and we still got fast passes for any ride
We didn't even use our passes.
one time we had fast passes for the toy story ride and it was me and my family and i forgot to give the dude my fast pass so when we got off i waited a hour and then i tolled my mom and dad i was going to the Bathroom when i was going to GS to see if i can get a fast pass for a different date...and i dida
Floodkids Gaming I was just on splash and it broke down but in Disney world and it was so cool
What is the purpose of the readmission pass? Aren't all the rides free once you get into the park? I'm asking because I've never been, so I don't know how it works.
They are free with admission. Disneyland uses a system call Fastpass. It basically allows people with passes to get in a much shorter line than the regular stand by line. In short, if a high profile ride is taking 1 hour to get on, the pass will shorten it to 15 minutes or so, give or take.
I got walked off of Splash Mountain just two days ago pretty awesome
+Ethan Lujan It's awesome because it's different. Thanks for the comment.
+Justin Jennings I could upload the video if you would like might take a little though.
Someone died on that ride on (2001?)
Yes, he did. :-(
It was 2003
My brother Dalton was named after that character as well. Haha.
Justin. When I was at Disney land. I could not ride because under consideration in 2014.
They replaced all of the track and added some new effects. I did post another video of the new track. When I first went to Disneyland in something like 1980, it was brand new. Of course, Disneyland was a very different thing back then too.
WHAT GOOFED UP
Was it like this?
________ ______________
I had the same problem on this SAME right in WDW and it broke down. So did Splash. So WDW and DL are the same :P
Did the cast members say something about what had happened to the ride after u and your family got off
The train appears to be stuck at the junction. I’ve never seen it stop there normally, so maybe it derailed.
No junction, just a hill. These rides are so complex and any number of things can trip to shut them down.
Justin Jennings I was talking about when you walked out and went passed the loading area.
Man I got stuck on haunted mansion once but big thunder is a major bummer, sorry about that. :(
I got stuck on the same ride around the same time. We were stuck for like half and hour or so
I don't think we were there that long. But, time has little meaning in D'Land.
OMG WE GOT STUCK ON ITS A SMALL WORLD AND IT WAS SO CREEPY HAVING THE DOLLS STARE AT US
Justin Jennings
Rip Rainforest Cafe
;w;
my friend and i were on the Monsters Inc ride and it broke down. we had to walk out of the ride. turns out we're were pretty close to the end of the ride.
when i was on it thats exactly where it broke down on us and we also went throught the cave
I like that you say I thought you broke it
1:50 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Evacuation Disneyland California
Los Angeles
Your train stopped next to the hidden Mickey (the gears) :)
Wonder how long the ride was down ?
They have this ride at Disney world too
Yes, it's at disney world
If u go to the Paris Disneyland u will Hendrick all the time I went on 5 times and it got stuck all 5 times
What if the train broke down at 1:16! That would be really bad in the middle of the cave with water! Just imagine😬
At least we'd have water.
ktvu hah been there done that...and you get a tiny bit wet
ktvu When a ride breaks, the train will only stop at each flat emergency braking sections. There are physical brakes on the track to stop the train. The entire track is broken into sections and at the end of each section is that braking section so they won't collide if they have more than one train.
We stopped at the exact time yesterday but it was at night
I love this ride at night.
Omg I remember that I got stuck inside the cave so scary that time there was a working volcano in there it was so scary
It would have been funny if the worker who escorted you guys of while you where on the track said Hurry up a cart that didn't shut off is coming fast
Funny if not true.
That happened to us when we went on that ride ...we got stuck on that mountain
2:48 A Kid's Guide to Disneyland: Chapter 4: Ride Breakdowns
At least you made light out of the situation. Most people would have been bad mouthing Disney.
Thanks. We're pass-holders. So, I've had the mindset that if I don't get on it this time I get on it the next.
wow how did they let u film going out 😱they usually tell u to turn it off
I didn't ask and they didn't say anything. :-)
it sounded like it was falling to bit's from the off, disneyland/world rides breaking down every day?
chrcoluk well, that's just part of the Disneyland special experience!! On this ride, the sounds that you're hearing are the ones that are on purpose. It adds to the fun of the ride, and sets it even more into the setting of the Old West.
Totally of subject, but nice looking panel van! lol
actually: u, ur wife, and ur kids r all funny!! I enjoy this video, even tho im supposed 2 be sad tht th' ride broke down.
I love this ride in Disney World
I may need to go to Disney World. But, I think I'd need to set aside a solid week to tour that place.
it's like a nature hike!😂
I was like that little guy when I first rode this ride
