- Hello! My name is Stick the Eagle (“Stick” for short) and I am currently attempting a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I am traveling NOBO from Georgia to Maine. Congrats on 2000! Loved the placement of the stone version at the bottom of that descent and how your camera showed it quickly, just enough for the "hey, there it is!", before zooming in on it. What an amazing journey! Good to hear the 9/11 sentiment as well. Yes, I know where I was.

Yes, I remember where I was on 9/11/01. In a frequent flier lounge in Tampa waiting to board a flight connecting me back to Manchester, NH. Watched it all happen on CNN in the lounge, on Paula Zahn's first day there. After the Pentagon was hit, I was very lucky to get the next to last one-way car rental available at TPA, to spend the next 2 days driving home, when all non-military flights were grounded.
On 11/22/63, I was in first grade, wondering why all the teachers were out in the hall crying and whispering. We were let out of school early, because JFK had been shot, and some people thought it might signal the start of a nuclear war. We'd already been practicing hiding under our desks at school if a nuke went off.
Combined, those two experiences, gave me a better understanding of why everyone in my parents' generation spoke of remembering exactly where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked, as well as where they were when Kennedy was shot.
But there are happy moments that everyone remembers, also. I was 6 when John Glenn did his 3 orbits. I was just short of 12 when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. My grandmother, who was born poor in 1883, in rural Scotland, watched that with us. It helps connect the dots between generations, and gave me an appreciation that things which seemed like ancient history when I was young, were real experiences of people, not as long ago as it seemed. When my mother was born in NYC, women in NY were not allowed to vote. I'm only 67, so things like that are pretty amazing to think about. People in their 80s or 90s now, have more amazing stories to tell.

In the code of the South and SC Law Stick did sleep under the same roof overnight with a single woman. ( You have to sneak out before dawn. ) This he and Frizzle are now legally married and he is responsible for life. Another one bites the dust.
I wonder how our hero after emptying his sustainment bag. Does he have enough left to complete the trail?

If you substitute teach you can work as much as you want. I was actually a long term sub for the entire school year. Downfall is no insurance. I’m a disabled veteran so I didn’t need insurance because the VA covers most of my health needs. But it is a foot in the door.
What a day! 2000 miles on trail is a pretty amazing accomplishment. You are doing great!!

I.....guessed....wrong.... I thought it was Nickels 😢.... that seems so long ago... wonder what PBJ is doing now.... thank goodness for long legs for getting down that steep, rocky descent... of course, anytime I see something like this, I'm like "blue trail... where's the blue trail?"

A big congratulations on 2000 miles! Woohoo! It looks really cold up there already. It was 99℉ here in Texas two days ago! We are not feeling any cold yet. I hope you are able to find some kind of career that satisfies you! Hopefully God will work things out -- it gives you faith when you look at what He did for you on the trip.
