I went through a similar process. Initially I just bought the Fuji adaptor ring and a UV filter for weather sealing. But then I discovered the hype about the various available square hods and watched a lot of videos, during which time I also discovered the NiSi unit, which I ended up buying. I do not regret this, as I have the same desire as you to maintain a slimmer profile for the camera, like how it looks and using the original lens cap is a bonus. I also had previously bought a diffusion filter which I l quite like for night photography. Once I had bought the NiSi, I attached the diffusion filter to the original Fuji adaptor ring and keep the assembly in a little pouch my camera bag. This way, it is much simpler and convenient to swap it out with the NiSi unit on the few occasions I need it.
I have the same setup on my X100V, as well as a NISI one piece UV filter which is very compact. However it seems people have overlooked the two small audio ports in front of the hot shoe, I used my camera in moderate rain and had water ingress through these holes that led to heavy condensation inside the OVF/ EVF. I was able to clear it over time with a hair dryer but I think people need to cover these with gaffer tape to get full weather sealing.
I was 100% sure I'd be going with the Haoge square hood, but this morning I saw your video, and your points are valid for NiSi. I also picked this camera for its compactness and want to keep the smaller profile. Also, a great point about the dust and the inability to use the standard cap. Thank you for a great video. I loved the pace and the reasons you mentioned for each lens cover.
@@Tech4Baba The profiles are effectively the same if you don't attach the Haoge hood. Gotta compare apples to apples.... ;-) If you want a thinner profile than the Haoge, take an old 49mm filter, remove the glass and attach it in reverse to the camera body. Then attach an ultra-slim filter to that.

Add bulk snd the beauty of the camera is it’s simplicity and the Retro look. Having said that I probably will use the grip sometimes it def gives better hold on the camera. i was getting Focus Error issues with this setup, only to realize i put the UV filter first, and then the adapter and square hood, instead of the adapter, uv filter, then square hood.
Is this really required for daily non rain dry days? I really like to keep the camera slim. Can i keep lens naked without any filter for general day to day use without worrying dust entering camera
@@Tech4Baba Is the second rubber which comes with the lens hood just in case the first one gets lost/broken? I got the same lens hood and I attached both of the rubbers so its totally weather sealed (I guess). I attached it in the following order: Camera -> rubber 1 -> lens hood-adapter -> rubber 2 (which was already on the adapter) -> lens hood itself. My thought was, that if you use only one rubber band, some water could still go into the camera between the camera and the lens hood-adapter.
Really informative thank you. It’s a shame this camera isn’t fully sealed from the get go. Adding a glass filter of any kind is frowned upon in most photography quarters but I guess it’s essential here. Does the hood hinder the flash? Are those side lug protectors the ones that came in the box? Also, I noticed the peak design clips and wondered what strap you are using?

I use the JJC hood, attached to the Fuji weather filter. Still small, takes the Fuji lens cap and the Fuji Protect EBC filter does not impact IQ.
Haoge is nice if you want something different than a UV filter, like a cinebloom or something else

I’m currently having the same dilemma with hoods - I think this video has helped make up my mind and go for the Nisi 👍🏻

The standard ring is so so so so tight that I have yet to change it after buying it for a week. I'm clumsy, so this is really stressful for me.

that Nisi filter's color doesn't even come close to the color of the camera. that looks plain stupid and ugly.
