    10:20 "Think of Clint Eastwood and how he spoke" Funny enough, that short "to the point" kind of speech is called Laconic, named after the Laconians, aka Spartans. So Downes voice of MC actually speaks how real Spartans spoke. \m/

    So Steve, who didn’t care much about his role in CE, still went out of his way to read the only Halo media available to understand the character.
    And 20 years later, while working on a multi-billion dollar franchise with tons of games, books and even a movie starring the Master Chief, no one bothered to even look at any of those.

    WOW he really definitely understands his character and I love that so much he just seems to really get it and I loved hearing him talk about the show, and I loved the consistency of Marty and his stories about the initial voice reading!! I watched Marty’s interview with noodle and he said he told Steve “you’re basically clint Eastwood- you don’t talk much but everything you say is important” then Steve just: *Chief voice* “Got it.”

    I have learned a surprising amount about myself and life through Steve Downes. He sort of gets it now but it is so much more than just voice acting and these interviews only further reinforce that he isn’t just playing a character in a game. He is wise and has life experiences that genuinely resonate with me and so many others

    Around 17:00 he’s just like « if the gamers loved the story, why wouldn’t anyone else love it too? »
    No need to change a good story to appeal to a « broader audience », at its peak Halo was loved by everyone that had access to it! The only thing holding it back was being an Xbox exclusive, not the damn story! The « broader audience » would’ve been achieved simply by translating it into a media that EVERYONE can enjoy!

      Bless Steve Downes.
      From previous interviews, I remember he spoke highly of Halo 4, and considered it the highlight of his career as the Master Chief's VA. In here, I do wonder if there is some lingering unhappiness in the way the show was made, and how they didn't ask him to play the part.
      Hell, keep the sodding helmet on, and give them John's voice. And of course, respect the canon. However, now that the show has been cancelled...

    • @ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked
      @ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@IAsimov The reason they didn't want him obviously boils down to the fact that they wanted to show his face. Also the fact that they wanted a younger voice.

    Involving key people who worked on the original IP is definitely a huge amount of points. It isn't 100% needed but it always makes things better. The differences between Fallout and TLOU and why they worked as what they were and not if they swapped styles and also why other things that don't follow the story fail are interesting. TLOU worked so well following the original narrative because a major aspect of that game that made it so popular was the narrative and story associated with it. Fallout is the exact opposite, the stories are there in Fallout games to varying qualities but while the individual stories might be good, the main draw of the Fallout games is the world and being able to explore it. Nobody goes into Fallout 4 excited to save the kid, while you can make it an interesting story, in and of itself it's pretty boring. TLOU could have successful side stories in the world, I mean ep 3 of the show alone was it's own original story and was fantastic, but Fallout would need a lot more work to make the whole story better, which is why intrinsically, especially because the world is so big that a separate story works so much better and is easier to tailor to the world that is already crafted for you, and that is why Halo failed too as well as every other adaptation that tried to tell its own story. Halo was a generic scifi story wearing a halo skinsuit that's stretched over its lanky bones. I mean they couldn't even be faithful enough to use more props, the AKs and Vectors tore me out of it immediately, like couldn't even have enough immersion to have halo weapons, and budget be damned because 3d printing exists. But it was like seeing any aspect that was familiar was like running into an oasis in the desert and it was sad. You shouldn't have to feel a sense of "FINALLY" when you see a warthog or even speaking to that feeling, you shouldn't have that feeling when the chief PUTS ON the helmet. But my main problem was that all they had to do was even tell their story in the world that already is made, and has 23 years of lore crafted to flush it out. It is pure arrogance to look at 23 years of worldbuilding and be like, "Nah fuck that, I can do better." Even if you want to use it as a vehicle to push your own writing higher, it can be done but you have to be respectful because you can't just have fans handed to you because the IP already has a following. It is actually harder because the fanbase you are acquiring with said IP are going to be more critical of your work and and speaking as a nerd and as a fan myself, it is foolish in the year 2024 to not think that nerd and fanboys wouldn't hold your work to a higher standard and go through it with a fine tooth comb to compare the show and the original work to yours and will make entire videos describing the accuracies and inaccuracies and base their entire judgement on their opinions on that. Then share that opinion and essays with other fans who will also base their judgement on that and it snowballs from there. It is hard to pass with a passing grade when making your own story in a premade universe like Halo but it can be done if you at least respect the setting and themes like Fallout. They had serious balls to try to retell the MAIN story of the IP while basically rewriting it all, as with the TLOU the closer you get to the main story then the magnifying glasses turn to microscopes and judgment and backlash increases. When you want to do your own story in a premade universe you have the freedom to be more broad, but when retelling a story then you are retelling a story, if you are different in ANY way that is even slightly reductive let alone changing the WHOLE thing then you are basically fucked. Things can be changed but they have to be things that add to the overall quality, everything Halo wasn't, IE, child soldiers who were kidnapped and conditioned to be killing machines who though their training and trauma as well as the augmentation process making them seem like machines to their fellow soldiers and garnering a rivalry due to the accidental killing of an ODST and their position as superior to the ODST > Pellet turn feelings off so cut it out so I don't need a pesky character arc then proceed to be a whining piss baby as soon as he feels also ODST don't exist. IT blows my mind how Microsoft gave the ok to this, it went though so many people before it got made and even the media surrounding the show basically laughed about how they never researched the IP. As a fan since day 1, we were disrespected and expected to eat the showrunner's shit in a cereal bowl as we are gaslighted by the production staff and Pablo Schreiber about how good it tastes and how deep the flavor is because he makes sure you get to know that shit isn't just shit, shit is also corn, so he wants us to get to know corn as well. Gross analogy aside, 24 years and a bowl of shit is what we get, it feels like a punch in the gut after promises, production hell, Landfall, and Niell Blomkamp had his halo movie fall through which is doubly sad since he is a fan. But the worst part and why I am so angry about this is not because it was bad, it is because despite how I feel about it, its failure means either a delay of easily a decade or more before another attempt is made to make a live action movie or show or a complete shelving of the idea for god knows how long if not indefinitely. Shit makes me wanna throw up.

    You video is the best video. It makes my heart flutter because I have a feeling that your video, which I feel like was made with unsparing sincerity, will soon receive a lot of love. It seems that even my heart is touched so much that there is no flaw anywhere. It seems that there is a TH-camr who wants to become a fan after a long time. There are emotions that cannot be expressed in words in this short video. I don't know how other people see your video, but to me, your video looks very cool, like the brightest star in the night sky. On the street, one by one street lights. The darkness falls in the lights. On this night, I met your video on a TH-cam window. It makes my heart flutter in an instant and makes me happy. Your video has the ability to make a wonderful and attractive moment. Thank you to the algorithm that made it possible to watch good videos I hope that you will succeed as you have worked hard for your dreams. I was hesitating whether to open the youtube window but if I hadn't seen your video in Hamat, I would have almost never felt another great joy. Whether it's a coincidence or a relationship based on an unknown mysterious algorithm, I opened my TH-cam window and your thumbnail caught my eye and I'm dreaming of watching your video. As I watch your wonderful videos, I keep falling in love with them. TH-cam is flowing endlessly on my small channel boat over the huge and far off sea. I am very fortunate to have found your video while rowing a small paddle and going endlessly and endlessly.
