@scott111193 All of our model snares have snare beds that are 4 inches wide by 1/8 of an inch deep. Are you saying that your snare wires are sensitive by chance?
Thanks for asking! We are set for our Performance finishes for now but we do very much appreciate your suggestion. We'll see what happens in the future!
The body of the snare is 3/4". The ring or hoop part of the snare is actually 1 inch think. We do not have a video of a 3/4 inch. The most popular wall thickness choice has been 1/2 inch so this is what you will here predominately.
@jamy313 Only a few minutes actually! Our problem getting these snares out right now is not the CNC part it is the actually bending of the wood and the finishing after the snare has been bent and CNC'd.
Thanks for asking! The Super Solid does have a louder crack to it with a high pitch because the the thicker wall thickness. We offer the wall thicknesses in order to customize this sound.
Thanks for asking! We do not do any pricing direct from our factory but the KitBuilder is a great start. Then take the quote over to your local authorized DW drums dealer!
@paintersstone We offer Shell Thicknesses 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" The Shell Sizes we offer are: 4.5x13", 4.5x14", 4.5x15", 5.5x13", 5.5x14", 5.5x15" in all 3 thicknesses.
This is what we call a reinforcement hoop or re-ring. This is for sound purpose to help focus the note of the shell more. We first used these hoops to strengthen our shells and once we figured out how to make our shells strong enough without the hoops the sound changed from the shell. Now we use them depending on what sound goes best for certain shells.
Thanks for watching! We are ready to make you a kit when you are ready. The Performance Series is made here and carries a more affordable price tag. :)
I have nowhere near enough money for my dream DW kit, but all your videos are so awesome! The processes are amazing! Maybe one day I'll have enough for that magnificent kit I envision!
Nice! Eco-X is a great choice! We left the hoops out of the Eco-X snares because the Birch wood mixed in with the Bamboo. Birch has a natural short decay so we left the hoops out to get the most tone out of the shell.
Well with the Super Solid we are only offering them 5.5 depths at this point. We do offer a ballad snare which is a 10x16 diameter which is the closest we could get beyond a custom 12x14 with snare wires and a throw off and butt plate. This is as marching style we can get.
This video makes me so jealous :) As we regular folks need to turn them "by hand", using what ever method we can think of, and the result is usually quite meeh, with lots and lots of sanding afterwards and hours of work. The shell looks so cool :) Thanks DW.
Pretty tricky logistically with the aforementioned steam bending process. If you were to apply this technology to toms, and bass drums it would launch the tone way up giving the shells a very high tone specifically. A great question for sure but not in the plans. Thanks for asking!
We appreciate your suggestion. A Super Solid 14x12! That would be a marching snare that would be unique in sound for sure. We have made marching drums for some hard working Firefighters who were very helpful during the 9/11 disaster relief but that was officially the only time. So it is not out of the question but not anything we offer presently.
Great question! We actually have won awards for all the trees we have planted! We never have any intent on running our business while causing any damage to the forest or damage to anything at all for that matter! We have been donating to the American Forests foundation since the beginning. We have used acrylic shells but only becuase they were supplied by our artists.
We do not have an actually video of the steam bending process but we do have a video of John Good explaining the process. Feel free to check it out on the link below. youtube(dot)com/watch?v=zN_xzoky2ng
Hey Chris! We unfortunately can not go off of the serial number. This number would be used for your insurance purposes only. There should be a 6 digit number stamped on the inside of the shell. With that number we can get your specs. Feel free to hit us back when you get a chance.
Can you add another finesh to the performance series? I dont really like the darkness of the one currently available. Maybe one more brown and colorful?
Has anybody at DW ever suggested making DW or PDP marching drums? I think that would be phenomenal and it would probably attract the customers from the marching spectrum rather than just the drumset, so everybody would be happy! I could just imagine a super solid 14x12 marching snare...
@DrumWorkshopInc Well i happen to have a very very good understanding of snare beds, specially after talking with Mr Ronn Dunnett. I just wondered what kind of bed you cut on these ones, i have played one before and liked it alot, obviously they are all the same though lol :) Thanks!
The Super Solid will have a higher price then compared to our plied snares. It is a more intense manufacturing process compared to a plied shell. We do not do any pricing or sales direct from our factory here. Please feel free to check with your dealer for pricing and ordering info. drum(dot)know-where(dot)com/drum/
Okay, I was figuring since it was more machine made (CNC) the price would be slightly less. Anyway, let's say there is a 14x6 Maple 10 ply snare for $600. How much more would the SS snare be in the same size, natural finish, with a 1/2" body?
@alexcabrera19657 We have to finish the drum for you no matter what. The closest thing to what you want would be a Natural Satin Oil finish. This shows the natural part of the drum best. It is the smallest amount of material we can finish a drum with. :)
Well we can give you a retail price difference. This would not reflect what you would be paying from a dealer. These prices will be higher than what would be quoted from a dealer but you should get the idea. 6x14 10+6 Natural Satin Oil - $900 5.5x14 Super Solid Natural Satin Oil - $1730
I think is great all the work you guys do, but im just wondering what DW had done to restaure our forest and how deep is the damage to the nature? and have you work in other materials besides wood?
This may be a stupid question, but as a machinist, how is that shell held in place?? That mounting plate seems to defy physics, given that the drum has both its outer and inner diameters cut in the same instance? Awesome, for sure though :)
Unique in sound AND weight. it'd probably weigh a ton lol Oh okay. I was just curious cause obviously I've seen other companies do it and I was wondering if the idea was ever introduced to John Good and he declined it or anything of the sort. Would you guys be willing to make custom marching drums for any customer? or would it have to be for a organization?
Hey! So the number inside reads: 793587 What is the thickness of the shell??? Also I wondered if you I could fit the new mag throw off and butt plate to this snare using the existing drill holes? Thanks guys. Respect.
oh wow thanks! can I make DW Super Solid with requested wood? I really wanted cocobolo snare.. I think it would be great if it is made with DW's super solid method lol
@scott111193 All of our model snares have snare beds that are 4 inches wide by 1/8 of an inch deep. Are you saying that your snare wires are sensitive by chance?
That's the one! Thanks for watching and your kind feedback!
Thanks for asking! We are set for our Performance finishes for now but we do very much appreciate your suggestion. We'll see what happens in the future!
That is it! Thanks for watching!
@DouwevdWorm Thanks for your request! We will keep that in mind for an upcoming video. :)

You are very welcome! We do not offer the Super Solid in Cocoballo but but we do offer combinations of Maple, Walnut, Cherry and Oak.
@Leona197 Great to hear! We are happy that your Super Solid is going well for you. We hope you have many more fun sessions with it!
Glad you are liking the Super Solid process!
@paintersstone We offer Shell Thicknesses 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" The Shell Sizes we offer are: 4.5x13", 4.5x14", 4.5x15", 5.5x13", 5.5x14", 5.5x15" in all 3 thicknesses.
Glad you liked it! These snares definitely have their own sound for sure.
This is what we call a reinforcement hoop or re-ring. This is for sound purpose to help focus the note of the shell more. Awesome! Thanks for choosing the Super Solid! Let is know how it goes!
That is my dream drum. I own an edge, a craviotto and now I need a super solid, They sound amazing. Great job as always DW.
Wow you got a nice collection going! Thanks for your kind words and we would love to make you a Super Solid when you are ready!
We want you to have it!
Potentially but like it for a snare sound. For toms or bass it would really knock the fundamental note really high.
Thanks for watching! We are ready to make you a kit when you are ready. The Performance Series is made here and carries a more affordable price tag. :)
@axedstoninst Thanks for the suggestion. We will keep that in mind!
Our pleasure!
I have nowhere near enough money for my dream DW kit, but all your videos are so awesome! The processes are amazing! Maybe one day I'll have enough for that magnificent kit I envision!
Of course!
Alright great to hear! Thanks so much for choosing the Performance Series! What sizes and finish type did you get???
Thanks! The shell thickness is 1/2 inch. You should be good on the swapping of the Mag and 3P butt plate!
Nice! Eco-X is a great choice!
We left the hoops out of the Eco-X snares because the Birch wood mixed in with the Bamboo. Birch has a natural short decay so we left the hoops out to get the most tone out of the shell.
@ab4foot11 No a different machine cuts the snare bed. Same facility though.
@deathspaghetti It is called a "skarf" joint. Basically 2 edges diagonally glued together.
Well with the Super Solid we are only offering them 5.5 depths at this point. We do offer a ballad snare which is a 10x16 diameter which is the closest we could get beyond a custom 12x14 with snare wires and a throw off and butt plate. This is as marching style we can get.
We use only Maple for the this snare but for the Super Solid Edge Series you can use Maple, Walnut, Cherry and Red Oak!
@maya60778 These machines have gone really well for us with minimal problems. We have just the normal type of maintenance to keep up.
@cpmeeter2 Thick with maple goodness...the thickness helps to dictate the pitch. Thicker shell=higher note, thinner=lower note.
This video makes me so jealous :) As we regular folks need to turn them "by hand", using what ever method we can think of, and the result is usually quite meeh, with lots and lots of sanding afterwards and hours of work.
The shell looks so cool :) Thanks DW.
@Clancedrums Good idea! We'll see what we can do.
@p4mps We hope you purchase helped you!

I love DW super solid snare drum sound! This snare are my style!
@kidgloves2 Well as you noticed it's quite a process to get one of these snares made. We love your suggestion so you never know...:)
This is awesome and probably sounds even better
@NemanjAMADEUS Thanks very much!
Thanks very much!
Thanks! Crazy process but well worth the sound.
It has proved itself over and over again. :)
The rings are to focus the note of the shell!
We do not have an actually video of the steam bending process but we do have a video of John Good explaining the process. Feel free to check it out on the link below.

@DrumWorkshopInc awesome. tell me when its ready!
Very cool machine! Could you do this with toms and bass drums? (solid shell kit)
can you show us how do you do the steam bent process?
Can you add another finesh to the performance series? I dont really like the darkness of the one currently available. Maybe one more brown and colorful?
@1stRogInAz We're not sure about that. :)
One solid piece of wood steam bent! Thanks for asking!

I recorded some tracks with this snare and some minds were blown!! Nice crack, with fat body tone! Its unreal
@enruoblimeimaj LOL! Took a lot longer to build the machine that is doing the bearing edges though. :)

drum(dot)know-where(dot)com/drum/
I just got mine today! Can't wait until tomorrow to play it :(
guy at the end: "Yeah this feels like about $800
not really
Try $1500
Guy at the end.. You mean John Good, the frickin owner/founder of DW?
These drums are like diamonds. Fine cut jewels fit for kings. In 100 years, they would qualify as museum relics
How does the wood not catch on fire from all the friction?
pleasant to watch
@Leona197 Thanks for your educated insight!
What timbers can be used in this construction?
I'm Interested to hear a Merbau Shell like this.
Does anyone know what is the name of the red router bit that cuts the sides of the shells?
does that machine also cut the snare beds?
Good question! We are sure when people were inventing these machines there could have been an accident or 2 but we have not had any fires.
could i get a ss snare drum in the same exact color that it gets when is made no finshply, satin nothing??
Okay, I was figuring since it was more machine made (CNC) the price would be slightly less. Anyway, let's say there is a 14x6 Maple 10 ply snare for $600. How much more would the SS snare be in the same size, natural finish, with a 1/2" body?

6x14 10+6 Natural Satin Oil - $900
5.5x14 Super Solid Natural Satin Oil - $1730
How was the other side cut?
@jeffdrummer All DW drummers are Super!
My dream, working with CNC manufacturing drum pads which is the instrument that I play and love!!!
Satisfaction see all the process
How expensive would this type of snare drum be compared to a traditional drum?
Do you cut a wide and bowed snare bed for these particular drums? how deep aswell? the snares are extremely sensitive. Thanks :)
Hey, do you ever have any of the cnc machines fail in any way?
how long would you say it takes in total to cnc a super solid shell?
We like that!
@robeldrumming You know it!
really great work 👍👍
How about a Super Solid 4 piece KIT! The whole kit super solid.
I think is great all the work you guys do, but im just wondering what DW had done to restaure our forest and how deep is the damage to the nature? and have you work in other materials besides wood?

Vacuum
awesome!
hew dw, how do you guys join the two ends of the wood together when you bend these shells?
Do you guys negotiate quotes with customers, or is it all set with the kit builder quote?
Unique in sound AND weight. it'd probably weigh a ton lol Oh okay. I was just curious cause obviously I've seen other companies do it and I was wondering if the idea was ever introduced to John Good and he declined it or anything of the sort. Would you guys be willing to make custom marching drums for any customer? or would it have to be for a organization?
how quickly done. . really planned for production. .
how many inch is the reinforcement part?? is it 1" or 3/4"?
do you have videos of supersolid 3/4"?
Hey! So the number inside reads: 793587
What is the thickness of the shell???
Also I wondered if you I could fit the new mag throw off and butt plate to this snare using the existing drill holes?
Thanks guys. Respect.
So how does it sound? I'm guessing loud/
By the way, is that 3/4'' re-ring you are leaving there?
oh wow thanks! can I make DW Super Solid with requested wood? I really wanted cocobolo snare.. I think it would be great if it is made with DW's super solid method lol
@p4mps lol and camry's are cool to drive?
