Android fan here too (ironically writing this message from an ipod touch 5g), and i think that apple makes pretty good products. The pricing is, thankfully, normal in my country. Yes, they could use better hardware (the iphone 6s desperately needs more ram, according to my cousin) and better software (still waiting for propper multitasking and widgets), but overall their products are good. That being said, i have a samsung galaxy s6 edge plus, and i definately like it better than my ipod touch or my cousins iphone 6s.
Apple is a business. They find they can overprice things if they polish it up pretty and present it well. It's literally the difference between buying a polished apple or a regular organic one. Hello, I'm an Apple computer in an Apple advertisement trying to convince you to buy me. I'm obviously a biased source of information. You can call me Mac. And I'm a Windows computer who's being paid lots of money by Apple to intentionally demoralize myself. They call me PC, even though that stands for Personal Computer. Therefore we're both PCs, unless I run Windows Server, in which case I'm not a PC. Mac: If you buy me, I will come with several built-in features out of the box for no extra charge. PC: If you buy me, you will need to buy those extra features separately. But what Mac conveniently forgot to mention is that the total amount of money spent on my behalf will likely be less than the cost of a single Apple package. Mac: I have a power cord that's held in place magnetically. If someone trips over my cable, I won't fall off the desk. The charger will seamlessly detach itself from me. PC: I actually like that idea. Why don't I have that? Mac: Because if you did, I'd sue you for plagiarism. Then I'd use the money from the lawsuit to buy a monopoly on the next generation's market of good ideas. PC: I hate vicious cycles. Except when they work in my favor. Mac: You don't want this loser. I'm your only other option. PC: That's not true. We're not the only two operating systems. Edwin Walker Even in Linux, the terminal is optional, unless your university gives you CS homework that makes it mandatory (that would be understandable). The advantage of the terminal in Linux is that if a user is comfortable with text commands, they would probably prefer bash script over Microsoft's bat shell script.

Everybody knows that, in fact, Apple never did anything to hide that. It's on every biography/documental. The whole "We are Pirates" thing. It wasn't finished at all, it wasn't polished, it wasn't marketable, it had potential. Of course their creators saw the potential but they were restrained by Xerox ties (I repeat that Xerox didn't give a crap) while Apple as they were independent. You would say poor creators, they won nothing. They were employees, they were paid for been there investigating even if they did come up with nothing in the end. They were even somehow happy it ideas weren't going to be stored away. Besides creators minds keep creating and part of that team went on and founded Adobe. The point is the Xerox team did create it but neither them (employees that got paid anyways) nor Xerox (didn't really see the potential) risked anything, while Apple put all its might on working on it and did risk everything they had up to that moment. It had to work, they worked on it and it work. Yet Steve Jobs biggest mistake is that he didn't undestand that marketing doesn't really work "elitism towards homogeneity" but more like "homogeneity towards elitism". Gates took Apple "finished product" and made it cheap (and ugly) and affordable! And it spread for years! like fire! (well they were all already running Gates cowritten code, Gates was a creator too) Once it's common use you can make it "perfect" and snobish, only then. Historically it worked and it was awesome how it worked. With pods, phones etc it was different, pretty much everybody already had a cellphone, a pod, walkman or the likes. I used to be a blind Apple hater, but I've got to admit that most of their phones aren't "that much more expensive" than the ones from competitors. It may be $50-$100 more expensive than a Samsung flagship, but is totally worth it. I mean... iPhone 6S and 6SPlus are faster than any Android and Windows phones in existence. Apple didn't invent NFC or Fingerprint recognition, but the way they integrated the two into the iOS ecosystem has forced Samsung, and later Google, to do the same. They introduced 3D Touch, which some Chinese manufacturers are already starting to mooch and is something Samsung will copy in 2016. And I don't think Mac's are overpriced at all. Sure, you can build a custom PC/Hackintosh for a far lesser price tag, but Microsoft charges $1500+ for a Surface Book and Razer charges $2000+ for a gaming Notebook... The moment Microsoft and Razer decided to put in the same level of attention to detail on the hardware, even their price tags shot up to rival Macbooks'. Can you still truly say that Apple overcharges their products? Young Frankenstein First off, I'm not an Apple fanboy (if anything, I'm a Google Fanboy). I don't own an iPhone and I never will. I'm a proud Galaxy S6 owner, and cannot live without Android's customizations on a phone (when I say I never will buy an iPhone, I'm talking strictly about Apple's phone, though. Not tablets or laptops). Secondly, have you compared your Lumia with an iPhone 6*S* (2015) side by side? If so, good for you. My GS6 (which, IMO, is the fastest Android phone - faster than the Snapdragon 810 running Nexus 6P) was nowhere near as fast as my roommate's 6S. Just watch one of MKBHD's videos about the topic if you don't believe me. Lastly, yes. a custom build PC will be much cheaper than an iMac or a Macbook... much, much cheaper. The custom build can also run Mac OS (see Hackintosh project). But the point I was trying to make is that when companies release their flagship hardware - their opinion of ideal hardware for their software - such as Surface Pro or Chromebook Pixel or Macbook Pro or 5K iMac, the price will invariably be above $1500. While it is possible to construct your own PC or even Hackintosh for much lesser, the build cannot possibly match the aforementioned devices. What you gain in upgradrability, you lose in the amazing form factor and machine crafted hardware that just screams premium. Not to mention all the software optimizations that are included to take advantage of the custom hardware.

Did you read just segments of my previous comment? One of the only ways in which iOS is considered superior to Android is that Apple makes Software Optimizations to take advantage of the hardware they built from scratch. The same is true for the Macbook and even Surface Book with their custom Nvidia Graphics Card - it may not compete against the GTX980 (or even 960), but it definitely is an engineering marvel how they managed to squeeze it in the form factor. Same story with the 2015 Macbook (this, I agree, is overpriced AF, but is more of an experiment from Apple, and is still an engineering marvel). Sure, you can buy Off-the-shelf components (like Google does with its Nexus line) and get a much cheaper ones, but you lose out on the optimizations. Once again, I'm not saying that everyone has to choose more expensive over cheaper alternatives, but only that the price tag is justified considering how much Apple, Google and Microsoft would have spent on R&D. This is similar to Microsoft Office Suite vs. Free and Open Source Alternatives like WPS or Libre. I'm not saying you which one you have to choose, but the free versions may be incredibly powerful, and can get almost everything done, but only gain features that have long been in Microsoft's suite - reason is MS has to pay some cost for remain cutting edge. For example, would HP have been able to make a cheaper Spectre if Microsoft pave the way for it with their Surface line?

Apple and Beats, two wonderful companies, successful, profitable, amazing marketing strategists. Apple builds products and sells them at ~500% production value. Their advertisements are oriented specifically to people that will spend that amount of money for something that they don't strictly need, but they want. Beats sells you something at ~600% production value that doesn't even meet the lowest of quality standards. People still buy it because ad campaigns claim it's something you need. I just love how this resembles indoctrination. Here, popcorn for everyone, there's plenty.
Bose is extremely overpriced, but it is definitely quality product. You will spend $600 on a pair of headphones that may actually be worth about $350, but knowing that with proper care you can pass them on in working condition to your grandchildren. I'm not a fan of Bose, but I have a pair that my father bought when he was my age, they are almost as good as my brand new HD 598SE. Just pointing out, Bose is overpriced, but you can't compare them with Beats, not even the same category.

Gaming Wildlife Heh. I miss my dinosaur phone! It was the phone that wouldn't die, no matter how many times I accidentally dropped it. I swear we had that thing for well on ten years before my mother got tired of me (affectionately) calling it a dinosaur and got me a brand new Samsung slider phone for my birthday one year. Within a month I cracked the screen and needed a replacement. They don't make them like they used to. *sigh*
***** Yeah, those things were tanks. But they can't make them like they use to. It was easy to not break a 2" screen that .5" inside a 3" thick plastic shell in any direct lol. Today's phones have big screens that are pressed right up against the front panel. Pretty much the weakest design, but it really has to be that way.

There's a good explanation : They know they're paying a ridiculous premium for appearance and social acceptance and they don't like admitting being so shallow, so they lie about their choice being worth a lot beyond just brand. That's why when you attack the brand's value, you attack them as they like to pretend as if Apple products had any value. This is true of other known brands vs the cheaper/better alternatives as well.

Actually Apple invented one thing. They were the first to put an accessible touchscreen smartphone on the market, and it revolutionized the industry. But that was it. Pretty much their entire company now is built upon that one success, and they're complete crap.

Honestly, Androids and iPhones are both good products made with pretty much the same parts from the same factories. Both have comparable models in different price points and a healthy third-party accessory marketplace. I've owned both and enjoyed them both. I will say this though - I just barely upgraded from a Galaxy S7 last month that I had been using for the past 4 years, and for the most part it was still running pretty much as good as it was the day I bought it. Every iPhone I've ever had was essentially unusable by the end of each 2 year upgrade cycle because they tend to get really bogged down by their own updates over time. If you have a lease option with your carrier, and think an iPhone is a better fit for you maybe that's a good way to go about it.

I can't help but feel a great swell of pity for people who buy apple products. My android is not only more powerful but much more versatile. And my 4 year old gaming PC that I built for a third of what your average mac sells for can still play any game out there on max settings.

At the end of the day, it's what you want from a computer, if you want to play games, you build a PC, if you don't want to deal with Windows, you get a Mac. I had a laptop that ate it's self and stopped working, switched to Mac in 2011 and it still works. I've put Windows on it and it started disabling features, like my Bluetooth. Would I go back to a Windows machine, not as my main computer. Also don't get why people give a fuck about what someone else is spending their money on, it's a pretty sad existence, if you have worry about what they're buying with their money
Not concerned about what others spend their money on at all, I just think Apple is an evil company that preys on those who do not understand the market through simplistic marketing, and that does bother me. It depresses me when an evil corporation takes advantage of people and those people thank them for it.
I guess you could say this about every product manufactured. Someone builds or designs the first one, and then others jump on the bandwagon. With better marketing, design, and support, that product becomes a more successful and wanted item.

If you can't even get your dates right, it really diminishes your position quite a bit. What's this "stole DOS" crap? No one stole DOS. MS-DOS was a cheap knock off of CP/M (so perhaps SCP tried to steal CP/M?), which Microsoft purchased from Seattle Computer Products back in 1981 for $50k. The OS on the Apple II predated's that by a significant amount, in fact the Apple II was twilighted by that time. Apple DOS was not at all similar to CP/M, other than it was text based, for whatever that matters, and it was out well before MS-DOS was a sparkle in a programmer's eye. Did you do any research at all before you decided to open your mouth?
Well the reason the iPhone sells so much is the reason why the world is overflowed with stupid people With Android you get way better technology, hardware, camera, battery life, customization and in Macedonia for a lot less money But instead people buy the iPhone because they wanna show off and because the hardware and software in Apple products "works in perfect harmony" Same goes for iPod, iPad and Macintosh I mean come on people you can buy a great computer+great phone+PS4 for same money as Macintosh
Some people simply enjoy apple's operating system. In any case, there's nothing wrong with people buying technology that simply looks better (according to their taste). And its not like apple products are garbage. I bought my Macbook pro in 2012 and it is as good as new and it is still able to carry out very intensive computations with ease. I can only imagine the newer models have improved.

Cost is not the only thing one should look at in a computer. Aesthetic features and portability, as well as the type of operating system it is running (among other things) should be a driving force when buying a computer. I have no idea what laptop you have, so there really is nothing I can tell you :/

They don't innovate. They take other companies' technology, give it a new, fancy name like "3D Touch" or "retina display," "multitouch" (or fuck even the apple pencil for fuck's sake), and brand it as their own, and make profits by selling it for way more than it should be

Saul, Windows computers begin to slow down a lot faster than just 2 years. It would only not be noticeable if it were very powerful, with an ssd. Windows should honestly be reinstalled entirely after 2 years, although if you knew how to maintain a computer, weekly defragmentation and registry cleanings would keep it running like new for a long time.

Of course it didnt invent it, there's nothing much special about inventions, if they aren't put to good use, which apple succeeded in doing. What apple did was making products that were good for the consumers. Before apple created - macintosh, ipod, iphone... all of such products from other companies were really clumsy and hard to use, basically the sucked hard. They made these products available to everyone, in a sense that everyone were able to use them without studying hard what does what.

Ben Wilcox I like the iPad it's a decent product and it took a long time for the Android tablets to catch up. I can't tell you how many Android tablets i've had that broke all by themselves, I even had 2 Nexus 7s that stopped working for no reason, but the iPad 2 still works all these years later. I think the Samsung Galaxy Tabs are really cool though.
I have a lot of apple products and they last for me, iPhone 5 for 3 years, Macbook 3 years, iPad 2 for 4 years, I don't feel like a sheep for using their products though.

Android fan here too (ironically writing this message from an ipod touch 5g), and i think that apple makes pretty good products. The pricing is, thankfully, normal in my country. Yes, they could use better hardware (the iphone 6s desperately needs more ram, according to my cousin) and better software (still waiting for propper multitasking and widgets), but overall their products are good. That being said, i have a samsung galaxy s6 edge plus, and i definately like it better than my ipod touch or my cousins iphone 6s.

And I'm a Windows computer who's being paid lots of money by Apple to intentionally demoralize myself. They call me PC, even though that stands for Personal Computer. Therefore we're both PCs, unless I run Windows Server, in which case I'm not a PC.
Mac: If you buy me, I will come with several built-in features out of the box for no extra charge.
PC: If you buy me, you will need to buy those extra features separately. But what Mac conveniently forgot to mention is that the total amount of money spent on my behalf will likely be less than the cost of a single Apple package.

Edwin Walker Even in Linux, the terminal is optional, unless your university gives you CS homework that makes it mandatory (that would be understandable). The advantage of the terminal in Linux is that if a user is comfortable with text commands, they would probably prefer bash script over Microsoft's bat shell script.

Yet Steve Jobs biggest mistake is that he didn't undestand that marketing doesn't really work "elitism towards homogeneity" but more like "homogeneity towards elitism".
Gates took Apple "finished product" and made it cheap (and ugly) and affordable! And it spread for years! like fire! (well they were all already running Gates cowritten code, Gates was a creator too) Once it's common use you can make it "perfect" and snobish, only then.
Historically it worked and it was awesome how it worked.
With pods, phones etc it was different, pretty much everybody already had a cellphone, a pod, walkman or the likes. (they just released it when they had to, and it worked too)

I used to be a blind Apple hater, but I've got to admit that most of their phones aren't "that much more expensive" than the ones from competitors. It may be $50-$100 more expensive than a Samsung flagship, but is totally worth it. I mean... iPhone 6S and 6SPlus are faster than any Android and Windows phones in existence. Apple didn't invent NFC or Fingerprint recognition, but the way they integrated the two into the iOS ecosystem has forced Samsung, and later Google, to do the same. They introduced 3D Touch, which some Chinese manufacturers are already starting to mooch and is something Samsung will copy in 2016.
And I don't think Mac's are overpriced at all. Sure, you can build a custom PC/Hackintosh for a far lesser price tag, but Microsoft charges $1500+ for a Surface Book and Razer charges $2000+ for a gaming Notebook... The moment Microsoft and Razer decided to put in the same level of attention to detail on the hardware, even their price tags shot up to rival Macbooks'. Can you still truly say that Apple overcharges their products? I really don't think so.

My GS6 (which, IMO, is the fastest Android phone - faster than the Snapdragon 810 running Nexus 6P) was nowhere near as fast as my roommate's 6S. Just watch one of MKBHD's videos about the topic if you don't believe me.
Lastly, yes. a custom build PC will be much cheaper than an iMac or a Macbook... much, much cheaper. The custom build can also run Mac OS (see Hackintosh project). But the point I was trying to make is that when companies release their flagship hardware - their opinion of ideal hardware for their software - such as Surface Pro or Chromebook Pixel or Macbook Pro or 5K iMac, the price will invariably be above $1500.
While it is possible to construct your own PC or even Hackintosh for much lesser, the build cannot possibly match the aforementioned devices. What you gain in upgradrability, you lose in the amazing form factor and machine crafted hardware that just screams premium. Not to mention all the software optimizations that are included to take advantage of the custom hardware.

One of the only ways in which iOS is considered superior to Android is that Apple makes Software Optimizations to take advantage of the hardware they built from scratch. The same is true for the Macbook and even Surface Book with their custom Nvidia Graphics Card - it may not compete against the GTX980 (or even 960), but it definitely is an engineering marvel how they managed to squeeze it in the form factor. Same story with the 2015 Macbook (this, I agree, is overpriced AF, but is more of an experiment from Apple, and is still an engineering marvel).
Sure, you can buy Off-the-shelf components (like Google does with its Nexus line) and get a much cheaper ones, but you lose out on the optimizations.
Once again, I'm not saying that everyone has to choose more expensive over cheaper alternatives, but only that the price tag is justified considering how much Apple, Google and Microsoft would have spent on R&D. This is similar to Microsoft Office Suite vs. Free and Open Source Alternatives like WPS or Libre. I'm not saying you which one you have to choose, but the free versions may be incredibly powerful, and can get almost everything done, but only gain features that have long been in Microsoft's suite - reason is MS has to pay some cost for remain cutting edge.
For example, would HP have been able to make a cheaper Spectre if Microsoft pave the way for it with their Surface line?

I swear we had that thing for well on ten years before my mother got tired of me (affectionately) calling it a dinosaur and got me a brand new Samsung slider phone for my birthday one year. Within a month I cracked the screen and needed a replacement. They don't make them like they used to. *sigh*

Honestly, Androids and iPhones are both good products made with pretty much the same parts from the same factories. Both have comparable models in different price points and a healthy third-party accessory marketplace. I've owned both and enjoyed them both. I will say this though - I just barely upgraded from a Galaxy S7 last month that I had been using for the past 4 years, and for the most part it was still running pretty much as good as it was the day I bought it. Every iPhone I've ever had was essentially unusable by the end of each 2 year upgrade cycle because they tend to get really bogged down by their own updates over time. If you have a lease option with your carrier, and think an iPhone is a better fit for you maybe that's a good way to go about it.

Apple DOS was not at all similar to CP/M, other than it was text based, for whatever that matters, and it was out well before MS-DOS was a sparkle in a programmer's eye. Some people simply enjoy apple's operating system. In any case, there's nothing wrong with people buying technology that simply looks better (according to their taste). And its not like apple products are garbage. I bought my Macbook pro in 2012 and it is as good as new and it is still able to carry out very intensive computations with ease. I can only imagine the newer models have improved.

Cost is not the only thing one should look at in a computer. Aesthetic features and portability, as well as the type of operating system it is running (among other things) should be a driving force when buying a computer. I have no idea what laptop you have, so there really is nothing I can tell you :/

They don't innovate. They take other companies' technology, give it a new, fancy name like "3D Touch" or "retina display," "multitouch" (or fuck even the apple pencil for fuck's sake), and brand it as their own, and make profits by selling it for way more than it should be

Sure while Apple didn't invent the GUI, they did make it better, as they did with MP3 players, Tablet computers, Smart phones, etc.

I agree my iMac was refurbished i bought it on 2012 and it's still fast and I haven't had a single problem and I use it everyday, my windows never last more than 2 years when it started to have issues and getting slow as fu** never go back to windows

Saul, Windows computers begin to slow down a lot faster than just 2 years. It would only not be noticeable if it were very powerful, with an ssd. Windows should honestly be reinstalled entirely after 2 years, although if you knew how to maintain a computer, weekly defragmentation and registry cleanings would keep it running like new for a long time.

Of course it didnt invent it, there's nothing much special about inventions, if they aren't put to good use, which apple succeeded in doing. What apple did was making products that were good for the consumers. Before apple created - macintosh, ipod, iphone... all of such products from other companies were really clumsy and hard to use, basically the sucked hard. They made these products available to everyone, in a sense that everyone were able to use them without studying hard what does what.

The main point was that they in fact did revolutionize the market, but i think that since jobs' death they have been going down a bit. Apple put love in every aspect of every product, albeit having some annoying principles. But they did deliver an exellent product to the customer.

Apple does everything right, except phones. Android is better in my opinion. I don't like iOS. But Macbooks are good, iMacs are good. iPods are good, and so are iPads. Not here to start a flamewar, just here to state my opinion.
iMacs aren't that good, you can get a better value if you were to make a Hackintosh, but you'd run into problems there with the OS.
Ben Wilcox I like the iPad it's a decent product and it took a long time for the Android tablets to catch up. I can't tell you how many Android tablets i've had that broke all by themselves, I even had 2 Nexus 7s that stopped working for no reason, but the iPad 2 still works all these years later.
I think the Samsung Galaxy Tabs are really cool though.
I have a lot of apple products and they last for me, iPhone 5 for 3 years, Macbook 3 years, iPad 2 for 4 years, I don't feel like a sheep for using their products though.
