  • If you're a seafood lover, the Tisreachem Fest (Feast of Clams) might be something you'd love to know about. For this episode of Goan Appetit, we attended a local Goan festival, said to be one of the most unique feasts in Goa- a celebration of clams.
Nearly 20 baskets of clams are cooked and served to the people. This community feast takes place in the village of Nerul, Bhatti ward, on the second Sunday of May.
In the morning, the celebrants clean the clams (seafish) and make the preparations ready. After the traditional litany (ladain) is held, the entire ward relishes the ‘tisreo’ or clam preparations, either made in the form of ‘tonak’ or ‘xacuti’.
If you love Goa’s seafood, then make it a point to visit this feast in Nerul in North Goa. But until then, watch the feast with with us and see how this community festival is being celebrated by people to date and passed on to the next generation.

My compliments to GT TV and Anchor Alroy for this episode. But please excuse for a suggestion. The coverage and narration was excellent; however, what I missed was on which day/ date and for what occassion this unique Tisreanche Fest is celebrated. If you include this info, it would make the episode holistic and the viewer better empowered to plan and visit these Goan fests.

Hi Sanjeev, thanks for the feedback. They usually pick a date in the month of may to celebrate this. They don’t always have a fixed date hence we didn’t mention it. Hopefully this helps 😊

Hey. The trade recipes are kept a secret and we did ask if the lady would want to speak, she declined so we didn’t force.
