  • Carrying on from our stay here in Goa we decided to visit Panjim, which is Goa's capital city and main financial hub. Unknown to us, this area was colonized by the Portuguese and there is still a huge Latin influence here from the colonial times. So today we decided to check out the famous Latin Quarter of Panjim, Goa. This area looks like something directly out of Europe, which is crazy because we're still in the heart of India. We have plenty more videos to come of our stay here in Goa, India, so stay tuned :)

"This does not look like India" is a common dialogue from people who are so exposed to stereotypical images of India from their biased media that they think whole India looks like Varanasi/Paharganj/Rajasthan with over crowded unkempt streets and touts. Goa, Kerala, Himachal, NorthEast States, Ladakh, Kashmir, Goa, Andaman etc become foreign countries and is a little hard to accept that they are also very much Indian as the other stereotypical places.

They meant it looks Portuguese and not indian architecture. Are you so low in confidence that you have to bring this argument to every vlog? There are tour books like Lonely Planet which give a good idea of diversity of India you know. Other than a few idiots, most people realize the amazing diversity of experiences India has to offer.

Goa is different though. It was liberated years after India achieved freedom. Only state to have uniform civil code and a partying state.

Hello From Beautiful Sunny Goa, So when you mentioned that the church at panjim doesn't look immaculate can raise eye brows within the Catholic community here in Goa, The Panjim Church is Our Lady Of Immaculate Conception and not Immaculate Church. However thought I oughta bring it to your notice. You missed the other side of the latin quarter which has immense typical architectural influence from the old Portuguese era and yes people in that area still speak Portuguese besides our local language konkani! Pls be my guest if you should decide on visiting Goa again, much more to experience in our culture tradition and food 😊

The first Portuguese arrival was Saint Bartholomaeu. It was about discovery, sailing and navigating through the ocean. The discovery was in the 1500s. The Portuguese have settled in Asia for 500 years and they can still trace their lineages - very powerful people. The English arrived in the 1700s. The mid 1800s until 1940s were not good for the whole world. Goa is historical.

During the Portuguese Inquisition in Goa (1560 - 1774), most other traces of Sanatana Dharma were eradicated, and people forcibly converted or killed. Read the book “The Goa Inquistion” by Anant Kakba Priolkar. The inquisition was an ecclesiastical tribunal. The horrors committed by the British, pales in comparison to what the Portuguese did in India. Vande mataram

To go from one place to another you should hire an air conditioned car for the whole day. Walking in the roads of European country is not the same as walking in Indian roads.

Why you getting insulted 😂😂 grow up. Stop taking offence to other peoples opinions, it’s really sad!
This place was built by the Portuguese, and looks very European. So no, it doesn’t look typically Indian and every foreigner will think the same, so it’s about time you stop getting upset about it and do something a little bit more productive with your time 😂

@@THEECREATORCLUBalright, I might agree with you on one point. But why you getting triggered and feel the need to be condescending to me? I think you need to grow up.

The india you have in your mind is very limited... thanks to western media.. It's much more and avoid such captions kindly...

After 7 weeks in India travelling from south to north I can assure you the India we have in our mind is not limited 😊 I still stand by this caption! It looks more like Portugal, than the rest of India we saw. Which I assume relates to the fact the Portuguese settled here and probably designed those exact buildings. Very cool though, it’s nice india has a lot of diversity to offer 😊

You still stand by this caption because you are still ignorant about india and indian culture; please explore the entire country and then make assumptions about india, it is a lot more than what you expect....@@dunneytravels

Nope, not ignorant at all, but thanks. 7 weeks exploring south to north is more than enough to learn about the culture of India and be able to formulate our own opinions.

@@dunneytravels people stay here for months and still don’t know properly about india…. western media has only shown the bad side of india so when people come here they feel overwhelmed because of ignorance about india… that was the whole point.. hence the more you travel.. the more you understand that india has lot to offer and eventually the less ignorant you will be about india contrary to what is shown by many western media houses…Cheers
