And if I think about it, there's an iconic plane in Ace Combat series by the name of X-02 Wyvren, which is a fictional plane introducd in Ace Combat 4, so the name is probably a reference to Patlabour, I haven't watched much appart from the clips of the series tho.

Considering all of the Fighters' callsigns (Wizard, Wyvern, Priest) are somewhat fantasy related, it might be a combination of DND References.
