You two are in my top 3 favorite couple homesteaders. Y’all are so friendly and humble, not to mention pretty darn cleaver.

Feral child waving in the background just made my day. I need to figure out a solar set up for a shed and have no clue where to start. The more I read the more confusing it gets. Regular plumbing and simple basic wiring I can do. Ground hydrant. I need a couple too.

Just make sure you use the right size fuses & thicker wire so as not to lose wattage.

We ran a water line years ago. The line was in the ditch a couple of days before it was all hooked up. Finished the install, hooked it up and had water in the house for a few minutes and then it stopped. A lot of head scratching and looking uncovered that there was a mouse in the line who came to an abrupt "smushed" stop when the he reached the house plumbing.

Someday you are going to regret not installing a tracer wire alongside the water lines :) Also, @ 29:36 Should have used 1 inch PEX for the manifold with reducing tees (1 inch to 3/4) to maximize water flow. Right now, you have a one inch main supply going down to 3/4 before it splits off to the different waterlines. Which creates a bottleneck and impedes maximum waterflow. Kind of like having a two lane road for ten miles but at one single point, it is reduced to one lane.

The look on that young man’s face when you ask him if he wanted to fill in some of that ditch was wonderful. You and Angelia are fantastic parents. Just a friendly FYI always hold the pressure relief valve open on the water heater till it fills up, just be ready to close it before it spills out so it doesn’t build up pressure while filling up.

  • @BigDsHomestead
    @BigDsHomestead 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I may have mentioned it before and you may have already addressed it but make sure you put and extra water meter box near your meter and put an in-lind pressure reducer. Its best to put it in front if meter. I installed a hydrant when I first moved into my homestead over 2.5 years ago and the pressure blew out seals in a brand new hydrant. I have on on my mobile home, but it only works to the home. I plan on getting one installed myself, soon, in front of water meter. The inspector said I could use 5 gallon buckets to put it in instead of a meter box. I am gonna try and get one soon and practice what I preach. Keep up thd good work. I wish I could bring my new bx1880 to help you out with all that dirt, but you are too far. I'd love to help, if I could. I am 6 ft, 280lbs and look like an elephant riding a piss ant when I use my lil bota. Lol Its under powered, too, but it'll do what I need it to do. You 2 did good. GOD Bless.

I'm glad your plumbing job went so well. I just changed out our shower valve and it was very hard. I kept finding leaks and had to keep soldering our copper pipe joints. So glad to get that done. I wanted to use those shark bites but the guy at Home Depot said it would not be a good idea to use them behind walls so that's why I had to solder.
    So happy for you!!!!

I like when you give tips and information when you have them. Now, I have one, buy yourself a fuel transfer pump, you will be glad you did, not expensive and D cell batteries. Never have to pour fuel again. They work great. One day in your later years, that 5 gallon container will get extra heavy.

Heah Y'all! That is a cute little excavator! Digs the perfect width for your water lines! Not alot of filling to do afterwards. We call those hydrants "horse heads" here in OK. My dad has a couple on this property. Those Sharkbite coupling are awesome. Very handy! Love your channel!

Indeed that was a lot of work and happy that you were able to afford the equipment to make the job go a bit easier and faster than the back breaking shovel. That mini looked fun. Great job on the work.
Glad to hear that sharkbite is upping their game on the removal tool, fitting types and tape. Thank for the info.

Sharable connections are known to leak. That's why in Michigan you cannot use them inside a wall in your home.
The pex band (not metal rings) are the best. If for some reason the water line freezes the band will stretch & not break. But when it thaws the band will shrink and not leak.

Fantastic progress. Yes on the pond!! Hubby dug one decades ago. We have really enjoyed it. About 60 ft across, shaped like a wedge. About 7 ft at the deepest. We added a couple of diving rocks. And a slide of sorts for years. Even a couple of rope swings. One large, the other small. We had sooooo much fun watching little guys build up courage to use the little one. Once they use it they are ear to ear grin, even tho they are only mid calf deep!!

In addition to my earlier comment suggesting individual isolation valves on the branch lines. After a 40 year career at a large city municipal water supply utility I offer a few more suggestions. When creating a manifold with multiple branches. The manifold should be of the same diameter pipe as the supply line from the source. If branch lines are smaller then reducer fittings should be used on the outlets of the manifold along with valves. Also any time a non rigid pipe goes under a roadway, rail line etc.the line should be installed in a rigid casing to prevent settlement and vibration of road use crushing or puncturing the pipe.

my brother has something like you have as a center point for water with the water meter in it - he built a mini deck around it and screwed down the board so he can pick them up if he need to - he did the outside area with retaining boards with wooden pegs to hold it then decked over the top - looks good and nice, tidy and big enough to get into if their is a problem

Cutest little excavator I've ever seen, sure beats digging by hand though. The umbrella was genius!

Boy was I excited to see you had another video out! Angela you were thinking the same way I was, the umbrella to shade your love from getting burned by the sun and with the pex line to the greenhouse in using the shorter piece to go to the soap shed so you don't have to do any underground patch connections. Can't wait for the next video!

Dig the pond large enough to install a dry fire hydrant system (a hydrant the fire dept can hook to so water can be pumped from the pond) It will lower fire insurance costs.

You’re always thinking ahead, the umbrella on the excavator was a nice touch.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video!! I know it was a lot of work, but it sure did look like fun digging up those trenches. You two have such a great attitude. 😊

The music playing during the digging to the soap shack 🤣😂🤣. I'm so happy you all have water to all your main areas now! Woo Hoo! Glad the micro mini excavator worked well for your water lines but bummer it wasn't strong enough for the power trenches. I must admit I did chuckle when I first saw Sam up on that little thing, but it's better than digging by hand! Is there a hydrant close to your orchard and where you may put a regular garden?

Awesome video. Glad y'all got the water lines down. Awesome you let your son put the dirt back in. Everything is coming together. Y'all will be moving in your trailer before you know it.

Wow guys this was quite the project, but I am super impressed at how you did everything, and that micro digger was a good thing to have and so glad that your ground was easy for it to dig everything out. It was quite a process but thing are looking great and I am so happy there were no leaks and the pipe fittings went on really well and all the connectors and the underground box to protect all of the connections looks good. I am so happy for you all and it is getting you closer to moving in and that is also so exciting. I was so excited to see this video because I knew you all have been super busy. and renting equipment is never easy or cheap everything has such a price tag hooked on to it. Thanks for an awesome video it is so fun to see you both smiling and happy, have a great weekend, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
