      @@ladyalicent705 In so far as I'm saying getting paid is better than having freedom to quit, then yes for both paid and unpaid labour.
      However slavery has existed in many forms and the legal rights differ, the same goes for labour rights.
      If you are talking about a specific kind of slavery lets say cattle slavery practiced in the U.S. to pre-labour rights movement labour (weekends off, 8 hr work days, paid leave, workplace safety regulations, etc) the conversations become very different.

    It amuses me when people bring up the "founding fathers." Especially politicians of the modern era. Usually brought up when they're trying to make some law or other. Considering all of the founders of the USA felt that there shouldn't be any laws from the Federal Government - outside of the realm of imports/exports and defense.
    That said I'd like to point out that it was Jefferson who wrote a condemnation of slavery in the Declaration of Independence. Hamilton had him remove it due to fear the southern states wouldn't join in the revolution.

    • @a_d3mon
      @a_d3mon 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Let's not forget that the Founding Fathers didn't want religion/religious views in politics due to how corrupted it helped turn the British Monarchy in the years leading up to and during the early years of the US.
      Yes, you could let MORALS help make laws, provided they weren't furthering a religous viewpoint. Basically, the golden rule of "treat others how you want to be treated". It's also why it's illegal to require religious tests to determine your religious viewpoint to run for office

      @ravenshrike 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

      There's also the fact that Jefferson's brother and adult nephew both had the same Y chromosome as him and were very well known for 'partying' with the slaves. The reason the former was 'discounted' by the Monticello report was because "he wasn't often at Monticello". So apparently all those sex ed classes are wrong and it takes significant effort to get a woman pregnant. As for the non-consideration of the nephew? Well, because they deemed it so.

      I bet you think the civil war was fought to free slaves too.
      I bet you didn't know Lincoln wanted to send them all back to Africa and the ones that stayed would have every bit of support ripped from under them and left with nothing.
      Bro you have no fucking idea what Lincoln was about. Because you've never read his letters. You've only listened to what people tell you about him. You've never once taken his own words into account. 🤷‍♂️

    • @MeowNSheeit
      @MeowNSheeit 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bradyblue5269 Also if Lincoln simply drafted a bill that allowed African Americans full citenship and rights to land immediately, or maybe even a slow rollout, state by state making sure they were acclimated to society. society would look much different. But he did no such thing. He ripped the only foundation in America they had from underneath them and left them high and dry instantaneously. That's what has led to the "generational poverty" and outright desperation you're seeing today.
      Let's be real here, slavery was going to be abolished no matter what. Lincoln wasn't the only man to campaign against it. He WAS the man who was at risk of losing all of his personal power over it tho 🤷‍♂️

    About the federal tax thing--they actually WERE broke....back in Washington's day, the federal government was in HUGE debt. Especially with each former colony still minting its own currency and all war costs. Also, the first dollar bills were promissary notes: "you give us 1 ounce of gold, we'll give you an IOU". The budget was so bad that the US would've only lasted a few years had they not tirelessly worked to get the federal reserve established.
