I still LOVE the fact that he got a degree in engineering. Shows ones intelligence when they can act multiple parts, portray characters that make you love or hate them, and the person has an understanding of most higher forms of math and science.

About the federal tax thing--they actually WERE broke....back in Washington's day, the federal government was in HUGE debt. Especially with each former colony still minting its own currency and all war costs. Also, the first dollar bills were promissary notes: "you give us 1 ounce of gold, we'll give you an IOU". The budget was so bad that the US would've only lasted a few years had they not tirelessly worked to get the federal reserve established.
