1:32 more info about promotions: units get promoted after they kill a certain *cost* of things in total, based on how much the unit costs. i dont remember exact numbers, but it's something like 2 * their cost. that's why cheap things like GIs/Conscripts and Rhinos/Grizzlies get promoted very easily when they kill buildings like Refineries and War Factories. Refineries and War Factories cost 2,000 credits, so a 900-cost Rhino Tank will very frequently get elite if it kills a Refinery or War Factory, especially if that Rhino Tank has already killed a tank or two itself. but since say an Apoc is so expensive, it's much rarer to see them get a promotion even if they live a long time and get a lot of kills. also i believe the unit's cost that gets factored in for this based on its original price, so Industrial Plants *do not* make units promote faster, but i could be wrong about that (easy enough to test in-game yourself, though)
