What kind of leather and how thick do I need to make this?
IMO the best leather will be veg-tanned (especially for the "eagle" part because you will have to carve it :) ). You will need it in a few different thicknesses in the range from 1,5 mm to 2,5 mm.

@@KiLeatherworks I have a big dream: I ever would got a fire helmet from the Fire Department New York, but I can not buy that. I'm a poor boy.
Did you make this as a decorative piece? Do you have a cutout set where you can make an actual helmet?
The helmet has real dimensions and when designing I based it on the structures of real helmets, but it probably does not meet current safety standards for firefighters ;) And this is the only pattern I have :)
