Kenyan government officials’ opulence in the spotlight

  • Lavish lifestyles by the majority of Kenyan government officials have come under sharp criticism with many Kenyans saying they have to account for their wealth. The basic pay for Kenyan MPs for instance is nearly 5600 U.S. dollars per month making them among the best paid in the world compared to average incomes.

"I have been an MP for 8 years." As if that exonerates him.

With an annual salary of KES.12 million (USD. 100,000) multiply by 8, it is not even enough to buy a helicopter.

A lot of them have been in politics for a while. It just boiled over. We know what's going on but couldn't take it any longer. And the police interfered even while we were fighting for them too, and it got too much. 🇰🇪

Didmus Barasa was supposed to go to prison for life for murder, but the gun presented in the court was a different one, hence the suspect was acquitted. I believe that he's still a suspect. The victim has a name: Brian Odinga Olunga.

Come on people. You are all responsible. If weed isn't legal, that can bring in revenue if only dispensed through government dispensaries, why is hedonistic pay legal. Weed at least will bring in money, and people can pay monthly or yearly for a license that allows them to buy and be in possession of weed. These people ask for hedonistic salaries, and bring in no money. If weed is illegal, so should hedonistic salaries. If the highest government salary by law is 10x minimum wage no allowances, that is 150,000ksh. How much does that save on the wage bill? Then artificial intelligence can be used to monitor every expense, to assist those who audit.
