I am a Kenyan and Ruto....the president, has refused to listen to his people. His MPs(204) were paid each Ksh 2 million to pass a finance bill that will see an increase in taxes for the employed, resulting in at least 42% taxes in our paychecks. He also does not address the fact that our lands, passed down through inheritance will now become state owned should the bill be passed. We cannot be leasing our ancestral lands from the government. The bill is punitive and crippling, and it will see our already hard lives become impossible to live. The Kenyan youth are fighting for a better future which this bill now threatens.

Kenya has been steadily getting rid of their corruption since 2015 according to their corruption index. It's possible that their government is indeed eliminating corruption, yet still taxing too much. Perhaps they were just disconnected in parliament, because many African nations do not get this luxury of protesting without being killed. Honestly, you don't want to push the protests too hard or they could empower a despot who claims they will "fix" things.

I am a Kenyan and Ruto....the president, has refused to listen to his people. His MPs(204) were paid each Ksh 2 million to pass a finance bill that will see an increase in taxes for the employed, resulting in at least 42% taxes in our paychecks. He also does not address the fact that our lands, passed down through inheritance will now become state owned should the bill be passed. We cannot be leasing our ancestral lands from the government. The bill is punitive and crippling, and it will see our already hard lives become impossible to live. The Kenyan youth are fighting for a better future which this bill now threatens.
