You know that footage way at the end that shows Lucky talk about how many friends got into gangs/drugs etc and they had melee to steer them away from it is very true I can relate, as can many others who grew up in crime ridden neighborhoods
i have definitely heard milktea use the term "rape" before IRL. people change of course, but JUST SAYIN
the1janitor Her statement about how they're keeping women out by using the term is very presumptuous, it's not just women that are offended by the term, most of society would probably be shocked at such casual use of the word. And like you said, she said it herself, so it's not just a male gamer thing at all. I'm not a fan of milktea, honestly I don't really know why she was in this documentary, let's be honest folks, she's best known for being carried in doubles by PC Chris, and that's really about it, she's been out of the community since 2008
She says in her blog, ramblings of a retired gamer that she noticed her dating life and appearance were discussed more than her ability to play the game, well milktea, that's just because there wasn't much to say about your "ability" to as you put it, "hold your own". Lol, if you weren't a girl and you hadn't dated PC Chris, you'd have been a nobody in the smash community, nobody would remember you, you wouldn't be in this documentary, and you wouldn't have been invited to the invitational last year for damn sure, that is 100 percent factual and everyone knows it
Darkryu256 I don't know too much about Milktea, but I agree with you. I hate it when people get undeserved attention, especially because they were a love interest of someone who actually deserves it.

Love the series and the remasters, but I feel as though this episode is stronger and more substantial than it's remastered version. I can't put my finger on it, but if just feels more personal. Love your work EPP! Keep it up!

i only played melee as a kid since i was born in 96 but damn after this series it made me want to play and learn these combos that ive seen, i never thought of playing the game this way before because i was only a couple years old. series made me want to pick up the controller
I wish this episode was edited with more love and care like previous episodes because the story has so much potential for it to be good.

yeah this episode is bloated. i think they tried to illuminate the hungrybox/mango rivalry but it didnt really work out because a lot of the hbox footage is kind of unrelated and just comes off as unnecessary within the greater context of the episode
Yeah I agree entirely. Plus, the clips they decided to use really didn't put Hbox in a good light imo, he comes off like a douche.
they wanted to make sure we knew hbox is just as big a doucher in real life as he is in the game, so they included plenty of doucher hbox interviews

I think calling mango a natural implies that he did not have to work very hard to be great at the game. There are some ways he can be called "the natural" but he did work very hard to be good at the game. In a video where he commentated with scar he said "I'm not a kid anymore, i dont have time to sit in my room and practice techskill all day" (I can link the video if anyone wants it) implying he used to sit in his room and practice techskill alot, which was only part of the time he practiced getting good at the game.
That's just your interpretation of what "the natural" means. Anyone that plays the game attempting to be competitive understands how much time and effort it takes to be a good at the game. What makes Mango "The Natural" is just how quickly he got good, and how quickly he rose to the top.

Its not just milktea. Everyone casually used the gay f word and both r words. Now everyone fronts like they would never use those words but in the early and mid 2000s it was perfectly normal. In fact, you were seen as kinda square for not using those words.

As much as I respect Mango as a player, I have to say that Hungrybox's approach towards life speaks to me more. I think I'd probably get along with Hungrybox better than Mango because Juan and I share more of our philosophy towards lifestyle. At the end of the day, everyone just needs to respect each other and have fun. That's why I got into Smash, and why I continue to play.

try playing hungover it's really hard. Compare 2nd day at Evo Mango vs day 3. When he says people listen because there is a noticeable difference between his play.
Because its more than likey that he was actually hungover. HIs gameplay was sooooooo different to normal and his constant drinking makes it very likely he was hungover.
Then he can do one of two things- A) not get hungover before a tournament or B) Not john like a scrub about it

The episode is about Mango but Hbox is in it because it's describing his rivalry with him as well. Hbox was a great addition to this episode.
