I remember watching your channel when I had 13 subs. My channel wouldn't be where it was at if it wasn't for you. Editing can take you to some crazy places....
how do you even start bro... im trying so hard to learn. I dont even know what too look up when im trying to edit something specific. would you recommend going to school?
Practice alot, build a portfolio and network alot (2:58 is a good example of where networking gets you) Getting some sort of education is a good way to get a professional workflow, editing experience and maybe a few portfolio pieces.
pro tip from experience: i used to make editing tutorials for a specific genre of videos and some youtubers would hire me based on these videos even though they had very little views (but that was also 3-4 years ago so it might be a lot different now)
As a fellow editor I really enjoyed this compilation of insight into the editing online world. Gotta show a lot of respect to Taylor especially dude seems very grounded and family-motivated, just your average dad taking a win, love that. Hayden is kinda the professor in editing and I'm subbed to him also, he has LOADS of experience and is a perfectionist at his craft. Finzar! with all the latest controversy with Adobe terms and conditions and well *cough* price, I would absolutely love to see a video showcasing free editing software and your personal pros and cons from it. Also I have a suggestion, you have a natural interview style, consider podcasts?
i just dipped my toes into editing content for others. things didn't work out for me when I tried it and I was so burnt out. editing for others brought that flame back. now that I'm a new editor for the clients I'm with, this video was eye-opening.
Genuinely one of the view videos i watched from start to end in a good while. Very nicely done, everyone in this video! As someone at the "start of their journey" as it was called here, I very much appreciate the (apparent) honesty. It gave me a good mix of "hard reality" and "hope" for the future but most importantly motivation(!) to keep trying my best, study, learn and appreciate the community which includes taking advice and learning from people like you guys! Thanks for the video!
12:10 What Jhinxx said here about grabbing a VOD and editing it, I actually did that with my twitch streamer friend's Titanfall 2 VOD to test the waters and see if I wanted to pursue youtube video editing. This is a great way to practice. I didn't tell him; as I didn't want to hype myself up, only to fail at it then he can't trust me next time. I have this problem where i let my anxiety get to me where it's screwed me over on opportunities. But now I live up to Finzar's quote "because you miss every god damn shot you don't take". It's happened to me several times and i regret missing the shot every time. So I had wanted to learn more youtube editing and decided to try to learn off on the side. All I had learned so far was through my work, which was slow, template instructional videos. But I loved watching video game montages; they always felt daunting at first though. For the VOD, I remember rough cutting, then discovering Finzar while looking up video editing tutorials. I bought the preset pack and slowly learned while making a sort of test video. I showed my friend and it opened up a whole new path. I'm still learning, especially with keeping up motivation and drive, but it's now a cushion that if something were to happen with my full time job, i'd have a back up and go full time video editing. I did a video for that same friend where we condensed 8 hours of his stream to 18 minutes in a walk through funny highlight reel. That video opened up to his friends whose asking me for video editing. I'm currently almost done with a Chained Together 9 hour VOD condensed down to a 30 minutes highlight reel. Thanks for everything that you do, Finzar. I always point my friends out to you when they ask me about video editing. ❤❤
Your thumbnails are incredible! I aspire to edit like you, haha. By the way, TH-cam editing has really changed-it seems many creators prioritize flashy editing skills over content now
Ive been following you for a while and this is my favorite video. I am actually inspired right now. I wish I get paid by video editing which I am enjoying learning right now.
Great video fin! I relate deeply with these editors. I started my journey as a content creator 5 years ago, funny enough I'm working on editing that very video at the moment! I think similar to many emerging industries, being an editor for a content creator pays like shit at the moment just because the industry is still developing, but that also presents itself as a opportunity to those that really want to become video editors or even content creators. It's easier to do and if you truly enjoy it you can get paid fairly well moving into the future. I like to consider the current era a training stage, when the real game starts I think there will be some very lucrative deals with creators and editors. Similar to how in tech you want one business-minded founder and one technical founder.
I just loss a project today just because of too much lag on the PR software and I was in intermediate level in editing. I almost give up but after seeing this I think it's worth the time to show up.
I just earned my first 100$ as a video editor a few days ago. This video dropped at a perfect time, it gave me a ton of motivation. I wonder where I'll be in 5 years...
@@cameronrosemorganedits I edit gaming videos, and I found my first client on YT Jobs, but there's many more places to find freelance work, like discord servers etc. Hope this helps 👍

God I love your channel. I love watching your videos before I start editing or even during sometimes twice when I'm taking a break. Gets me pumped up to do some key framing and the likes. Lol
I used to work as a TikTok/Shorts editor for a YTber with 15m+ subs. I was worked to death with 8-10 hrs a day including weekends for $500 AUD (~350 USD). A few months in, we cut it short since the money just isn't worth it. It burnt me out so much that I switch to Game Development instead of being an editor. I still have respect for the man himself so I won't name drop publicly.
I love watching how editors get to realize their ambitions , plus working with bigger YT's. I am looking to being an intern at Finzar *wink* *wink* someday.
