  • Prof. Steve discusses how to identify unmarked 9 lead (Delta connection) on a motor. DELTA CONNECTION We will need: 1- Ohm Meter 2- 6 or 12 volt battery 3- Tape to label leads 4- Copy of Augie Hand's "Identifying Unmarked Leads"
    repairzone.com/...
First thing is to use Ohm meter, there are 3 separate pairs, to find the 3 different groups. Normally, I use a piece of tape to mark each one of the groups, and when we have the right combination were going to end up having the full voltage across 2 leads and then go from 1 lead to the other, to the center, and we will have half the voltage across each one of those leads. The one that gives us the low voltage or the half voltage across each group will be labeled 1, 2, or 3. Then we will connect #1, 4, and 9, 4 and 9 are connected to the battery terminal, 1 is flashed with the other battery terminal. A strong deflection will occur across 2 and 7, 3 and 6, little or no deflection across 2 and 5 and 3 and 8. Leads 5, 6, 7, and 8 can now be labeled. Were going to connect the leads 5 and 7 to the battery then flash across 2, leads 1 and 4 will show a strong deflection, leads 1 and 9 will have little or no deflection. So leads 4 and 9 can now be labeled. First thing we will do is identify our 3 circuits, look for continuity between 3 wires.

Thanks for the video and especially the document link! I just used your method today to mark a delta motor and it worked perfectly.

Yeah, why don’t you just draw out the leads on paper, or if your budget permits, use a dry-erase board showing the connections to the motor, all this is good stuff to learn and thanks for the effort. Just needs a little bit of tweaking and then it’s go-time 🤙🏻

greetings, when identifying the beginning and ends of the windings of a motor why should there be voltaje in the winding that is no conected.

am using a digital ohm meter set to read 20V max. when I connect lead 4,9 to +be and flash with lead 1. Both 2,7 2,5 gave increment in reading and returns back to 0 after seconds.
Am I doing something wrong here?

how do you determine if you have delta or y motor. Or is it that you make one or the other, as in it is up to us.?

Instructions need to be written down, (with schematics) plus who uses an analog VOM these days? Haven't seen a Simpson 260 in years!

Do you have some instructions for how to identify unmarked leads for a 12 wire motor?

Does this applied for all other motor models? Or just for delta

Delta is not a motor, it’s a wiring diagram.

No theory or explanation of the method. What is flash. Terrible handout. There are better methods found on Y tube.

what the hell is deflection? looks like you immediately had one wire hooked up to one lead and moved the other meter wire to different leads. How do you know so quickly?
I am outta here. Plus this guy doesn't respond. Thumbs down

Maybe it's because you forgot to provide your street address so the guy could come over and do the work for you.
So do that, and when he comes over ask him to explain the difference between an ohm and a volt.

    • @alchemy1
      @alchemy1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@alanw356 The difference between an ohm and a volt is called deflection. I guess I have to google that. I doubt if he will come all the way to my house so he can explain that like you did, unless he is a nut which I doubt. I bet you won't make that request from him.
