When the 'Handshake' gambit is countered by the 'I Actually Didn't Notice' gambit the 'I Really Meant to Run My Fingers Through My Hair' gambit is a high-risk low-reward move.
I would say that going the low-risk 'Silently Drop Handshake' gambit or the very-high risk 'Ahem' gambit is a better move. I he'd gone for either of those two I doubt he'd be in this compilation.

Had a match where the girl I was playing was missing a hand, and the other was unable to manipulate the pieces with any degree of accuracy, so I agreed to move the pieces for her as she called out rather than forcing her to waste clock time attempting to do it herself. After she won I went for the handshake and felt really terrible about it, but she wasn't remotely phased by it. In the semi finals her opponent was adamant about trying to enforce the touch move rule with her, wasted about 20 minutes of the head judges time in an argument including his father and his coach (this was scholastic), he ended up being kicked out of the tournament when he broke down into a straight out fit over it, really made me feel better that mine was just a mistake whereas this kid was just being an asshole.

Then someone else got his attention and was like, "Dude, don't leave her hanging!" Then he very gently took my fist and kissed it and my brain just broke down. I responded with a voice cracking "Uh...yeah, that...that works too..." I had a very hard time focusing after that.

Especially when you arent sure if the person wants to fist bump or shake hands, and you choose a different option at the same time.
Some of these were just people not putting much effort into a good handshake, but most of these were just people mixing up fist bumps vs handshakes, which really isnt that unusual. And it doesnt happen that often, but this video is a compellation of the few times it does out of thousands.
