If you sat on this side of the screen Ben, you would see most of us marveling not at your content quality (which is great) but wondering out loud about how much time it must take you to make such in-depth videos! There is a happy medium- shorter, less "all encompassing" etc. I like the idea of more 360 editing tips and tricks, rather than massive camera comparisons.

Hello Ben! First of all I thank You for all what I got from you. Not only 360 camera tutorials, interesting videos and a lot of useful information but for the honest, personable, motivating environment (aura?:) and giving some kind of a "its nice to live" attitude. I totally understand what you tell & feel, I'm also experiencing the same. E.g. I bought my drone, bought all of the accessories, paid for the training, paid for the exam, paid for drone and user registration, paid for insurance, paid for clearence and went droning. I made a film, I uploaded it to YT, TT and voilá its result is some around 100+ views. Meanwhile Mrs. Smith is dancing in the kitchen with a mask on her face from the J.C. film and she got >60K views :).
Okay, there is no need to be naive, this is more or less the same with movies, books etc. I'm okay with that especially I'm not a TH-camr, never was, never be - I managed to find my niche, where I am happy and effective and I wish you and all of our fellow creators the same! Be happy & creative & stay human! :) All the best!

Never easy making quality YT content. I gave it a go about 6 years ago. Made two videos, 20 mins each, and spent months editing them so that I was completely happy with them. They performed well within the community they targeted, but the effort just wasn't worth the reward. So that was that. I wasn't prepared to put stuff out there that I wasn't 100% happy with, so called it a day. Too fussy perhaps 😅. I've enjoyed watching your 360 content these last few years Ben. Fully get where you're coming from. Good luck with the change and I hope it all works out for you 👍🏼

Belated Happy Birthday! You're saying what I said to my wife a while ago. The long editing is the problem. We worry too much about making it perfect instead of quickly putting good content online. I also gave up on Premiere Pro. It's too time-consuming to work with.

A lot of the big channels farm out the editing to a 3rd party, also when you do this kinda thing you can't really put an hourly rate on your work/ time. When working for a boss you get an hourly rate. Just letting you know I love your content and this channel is why I ended up with a 360 camera. Anyway Ben do what ever makes you happy.

  • @LaunchedPix
    @LaunchedPix 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Viewers appreciate honesty & clarity. VFX & fancy editing are fun & cool but as you point out can be overly draining on the content creator. I make 3D modeling videos, some using 360 cameras, even the GoPro Omni, and don't try to get fancy with the editing because I hope my viewers watch for the ideas themselves (what you called the premise). I understand your reflective analysis of what you do as I had a similar situation after doing Sports Photography for 12 years. I moved away from that 3 years ago and pivoted to photogrammetry with drones & 360 cameras. Your channel has been informative. Thanks for that. Your video hit the spot without the fancy visual trimmings. I hope you find the best balance for you as a content creator.

I certainly understand your point. I'm at my day job over 100 hours per week.

I've always loved your videos. If TH-cam rewards were based on quality, you'd be up there with the big ones. Listen, I have an Insta360 One R sat around hardly used. Why? Because I struggle to grasp the settings and editing. I revert to my newer 360 Go 3 for the ease of it all. If you were to focus on the day to day use of the 360 in specific environments, including the settings you are choosing (live at the scene), I would find that really beneficial for learning from. Yes I know others have covered it, but they're not as good as you. Good luck in 2024 - you deserve it.

I respect your way in clarifying ur work assessment and replaning ur approach to ur audience, and support u 100%.
I'm feeling bad about worldwide culture in general that they appreciate nonsense youtube videos which dose not have added values over content makers like u who add knowledge and knowhow to them and the result is million of followers to chanells that show maybe daily routine of someone or jokes and on the other side content like urs or similar content creators just have thousands only which indicates the level ov awareness we reached.
All i can say to u that somehow u'll get the payback u really deserve for ur honest, hardworking efforts to produce USEFUL content..

It is great to be able to get such in depth analysis from your channel on these cameras as they are all over the map. Its not like Canon or Sony coming out with a new camera. With them, you can be sure they are good. With the people that make 3d and 360 cameras, its all over the map with Kandao on one side releasing complete junk that should never even hit the market(their first 8k 360 camera years ago), to Insta360 with pretty well top quality options. The different uses and other options is hard to sort out. Its been great being able to just watch your videos to know what the score is. I have tons of gear and I think the 360 market is mature enough where its easier to decide, because nobody is really making product after nobody made money on those products, so we are down to really just insta360 and Gopro. The 360 software has evolved a lot also, so its simply easier to just shoot edit and leave it. I hope you stay in there. I think your view on all this stuff is the best and I always wait for your reviews. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

    Hi Ben,
5 to 10 minute videos would be ideal for everyone.
Right now. I'm putting together a video of a school trip to Europe, the high schools don't want anything above 3 minutes 30 seconds to show in assemblies. I have noticed, too often, that videos longer than 15 minutes have less success, people are bored to death, including myself 🤔
    Good luck Ben 👍

Thank you for posting this video as I fully understand where you're coming from. Like you, I'm a pro video editor and have been using FCPX for many, many years. However, I'm retired and after 30+ years in the TV industry, I truly enjoy the production process. If I was your age, I would follow your advice and find alternative methods to creating content as traditional editing methods are simply too time consuming. Also, using 360 footage adds quite a bit of time to the workflow. While I've found some unique methods for using 360 files in traditional videos to get multiple angles from a single camera, it does add a lot of time to the production process.

The ROI is much dependant of youtube algorithms, where they fail is finding the niche audience for videos like a 360 camera review is. Your videos for sure are good, they do not just interest that many people over all, but I am sure there is million + potential subscribers how never have seen them.

I feel you and am doing exactly the same thing….in spent way too much time on my edits, more then needed and too much on graphics and sound effects. I was also too scripted, in 2024 I’m ditching premier and going to da Vinci also. I am a perfectionist and that got in the way. I hated seeing my crappy videos do better then the really good ones, also was discouraged by seeing other people’s videos that were complete crap blow up beyond anything I had. Don’t get bummed and don’t let anyone else discourage you….family is always the first to do this as our time spent on this takes away from them. Fast shooting, being sincere, to the point quickly is all anyone has time for now.

Happy birthday, Ben! Some of the videos I've made were ones I thought would be huge hits on my channel. And flopped. It's so disappointing. Especially when, like you said, they take tons of time to make. Since new years I've been using Opus to create shorts from my old videos and have seen significant growth through them. But, I need to get back and get editing my stored footage. It's just not very motivating when you don't get the views you'd hoped for.
I wish you all the best in your journey in 2024!

As a new TH-cam creator this advice is just brilliant. The reality for me is you have seriously established yourself as a 360 pro. Your advice on any camera now carries a lot of weight. The 2024, 360 Cam. you could have reviewed all the cameras and said your top pick only 10 minutes tops. I would’ve watched the whole thing instead of skipping to the end lol and got as much value. Your work is amazing. and it’s funny because I’ve been using CapCut and feeling a little cheesy about it😂. Like somehow it’s less than.🤷‍♂️

    Ben,
Been watching your videos for some time now, I love VR tech. I think just about every creator I watch has told the story about the video they spent SO MUCH time on, but no one watched. Now, my motivations of why I upload videos differ wildly from the "norm." I'm not chasing views, subs, money, the like. I started uploading videos in order to continue sharing with people. As the platform's AI to remove unsavory comments kept stumbling and randomly removing my ok comments, I decided to try my hand at making videos. And here are where my motivations come in.
I thought, if I'm going to take the time to upload something, I want at least one person to watch it. I thought, if it stays up there for three or four months and doesn't get a view, then I can take it down, no harm, no foul. Suffice it to say, I got a view (and then some) on every video I've uploaded. And because that one view is enough for me, and subs, money, and other things aren't motivating factors for me, I don't have to ask for that stuff in my videos like so many others do.
And when it comes to when I upload, that's also different as well. I don't have a set schedule to releasing videos, or how many I'll post. And to be fair to those who come by, I put together a channel introduction video, so people will know what to expect from me.
I think each creator needs to find what works best for them, without the fear to pivot when something doesn't feel right. I know I'll be sticking around to see what's next :)
    Cheers!
    vgv

Yea I hear you. Luckily even though I have almost 2000 videos on TH-cam I never looked at it as a career. When you do the hard math and figure your time/reward ratio it rarely works out for most creators. So, I do it because I enjoy it. Good luck to you.

Belated Happy Birthday…. I found at 40 that the tools from Adobe were good, but expensive and to be fair other companies have caught up and indeed overtaken Adobe. I know use Davinci, serif for illustration, photo and page makeup and have not looked back. The money saved alone goes into other things rather than paying for all those Adobe profits. A great choice. 👍

Ben you make really good content. Your niche is probably a lot of 360 videos (360 cameras), and theres a lot of work editing 360 videos. Changing the editing program is a smart decision. I also previously used premiere pro, switched to Davinci Resolve 2 years ago. Will never go back to premiere pro

And yes, you're right about streamlining your process. I'm also considering switching to DaVinci Resolve full-time and using CapCut too cos I've found that the latter just does stuff that would take so much more time tweaking in Premiere, however since I'm also a motion designer, Adobe still has me on After Effects.
Finally, the focus on shorts and reels is a step in the right direction cos the algorithm favours these short form videos a lot more now.

Sounds like a good idea! As a content creator myself I can really relate to spending way to much time on tiny details in my videos. I used to have a more fun and relaxed approach to editing, but as my channel grew I started to feel the pressure to make everything perfect, and it took away a lot of the fun from the process. I'm really tired of getting stuck on a single video for ages, so I think I'll try to simplify my workflow as well. Wish you the best of luck!

Hi Ben, I've never interacted with you on here before, but I wanted to say I'm a big fan of your 360 videos. You're clearly talented. I've found your content very helpful, and depending on how life takes me, I could forsee myself approaching you for professional help of some kind, or purchasing some of your 360 courses.
I completely get what you're saying about ROI and how long it takes to make your videos, however throwing my two pennies in I would say whatever you decide to do next, don't worry too much about about the viewing numbers on TH-cam. I reckon I've possibly watched some of your "less successful' TH-cam videos and they were probably some of the ones that would make me want to buy one of your courses from you compared with your "better" performing ones.
Take for example, the video you did about which 360 camera to buy in 2024 - I don't know why I decided to watch a 30 min video on that but I did - you addressed which camera would be best for virtual tours and that just happened to be something I was researching into that week. If I were able to get myself in a position where I can take things further with that then you've already presold me as a result of that one video alone - because I can see from watching that you've got the specific expertise I'd be looking for in that area.
Anyway, keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing your upcoming content in due course :)
