Ben, thank you for the tips and a tour of Queenstown. Cool that you got the shot 20 minutes before the snow (which looked at fun). It's amazing how much 360 info you pack in to an entertaining video. Best, Dan
Thank you for the video. Great point about being in the present and enjoying the moment. I am very guilty of that. Worrying about getting the best shots. Thank you again.
You make some good points, especially the last one - dont let videoing be more important than participating. Also your future self will not enjoy crazy effects, distorted views or added creativity. Just record some things you saw and heard and make a short video of the good bits.
Continually impressed by your presentation & photography skills. Delightfully watchable and packed with tips. On the topic of enjoying your experience live - absolutely have to agree. These things are just 'tools' and shouldn't take over being alive in scene because human senses are still more rich than what ends up as a flat screen moving picture. I wanted to do a timelapse of a Sunrise and had a new camera and smartphone to try out - I also took my old faithful Sony DSLR & hooked it up to an old phone to use trigger trap to get a timelapse, while my new Canon does timelapse as a built-in feature and I even put my iPad on the car roof on straight video mode - all pointing roughly at where I expected the sun to come up and with different levels of zoom. Once all the kit was set up - I had nothing to do but wait. However, I'd planned ahead and made myself some of my breakfast patties of bacon, oatmeal, laver bread & onions and also knocked up a sort of egg roll, so I took a heat pack (the kind you pour water into) and also a flask of Earl Grey blue flower tea. So, I sat in the middle of this field having a luxury breakfast as the Sun rose - the Dawn chorus began around me and I just revelled in the awesome experience - I mean I'm talking about a religious experience (it was on that level). Later, when the Sun came up higher and the landscape was lit up I took some long lens shots of the local hills. I got home and edited it all together, because even an hour's worth of recorded footage was only a few minutes of video. Luckily the zoomed shots came in handy and showed up more details in the rolling clouds on the horizon. I even pulled in the zoomed stills of the hills and a moon shot I'd taken the night before - because, in fact, the moon was just sinking when I got on site. Overall, I think I got a reasonable video together - but I'll never forget the actual experience of being there. So, I figure that cameras (of ANY type) are good for memories, MY memories. It is nice to share and for people to compliment my work, but, honestly, some of these were truly great experiences and the videos always remind me of those times. The one surprising accessory I love is my bluetooth hat. A woolly hat with built in speakers and a head light. So I can listen to music or audio narrations while I work and for night shots the head light is really handy.
If I don't have internet access, best to have extra batteries and memory cards to capture more footage since I can't edit without internet right? Thank you! Planning a trip outside the country without internet.
There is no such thing as a ‘travel resolution’… all shots should be maximum quality wherever you shoot. If you want to see a deeper dive into best camera settings, I have an entire module of my 360 Video 101 course dedicated to them- which you can find a link to in the description 👍🏻
I would like to ask you a question: when shooting in a variety of modes ive noticed my unsta 360x3 screen is blury during filming. The image quality is not affected. Do you knkw what the issue would be?
Thanks for the amazing tips. I would appreciate it more if you make another content related to 360 video tour in indoor with a low light situation with your best experience setting with insta360 X3. Also same tour with panaroma mode.. I want to enter myself into a real estate virtual tour field, and i have insta X3 according to my budget😊. So whenever i try to make 360 tour with an indoor area, i usually see a bundle of grains in my video or panaroma photos. Btw i use 3dVista for my 360 tour.. Thank you for sharing your experience..
I recently used a best360 backpack with a stick to make cool hyper-lapse of parts a 50km gravel-road trip on a electric unicycle, riding it is like you become the Gimble lol
Thanks Rob. The way I teach in my 360 Video 101 course is using a high strength magnet with a camera spacer. There are also however, suction mounts which are better suited to high speeds.
I have camera insta 360 x3 and I make the video but I put to the TH-cam very small video is not full version . So how we can make the video full version???
hii there well I am getting 4k export settings in single lens mode not in 360 mode in insta 360 phone app ??? Is it the same for you also ? Please let me know?
Great info. I’m having such a hard time deciding what to get for a trip to Tahiti. I need something that will do great underwater. Snorkeling mainly. Had the Go Pro 12 in my cart then saw this or the Ace Pro. I’m so confused. Do you have a recommendation? Any videos step by step for what to get to plug SD card into iPhone & how to edit on cell? When u edit on cell does it delete or permanently change your footage? Can I get good still photos from this footage?
Hi Kelly, I have many editing tutorials on my channel that you might want to check out. I’d go for whichever camera appeals to you more out of a 360 camera or action camera.
Great video Ben. My new X3 gets pretty hot while shooting, once it even turned itself off after overheating (full sun exposure inside a bubble canopy). Have you ever experienced any of this? Ciao, Marco.
Hi Ben, thanks for your useful video. Just a question: The quick reader is only for Apple devices or I can use it on my Samsung Mobile, using the same USB type C port used for Insta Camera??
Bonsoir, merci pour le partage de tes connaissances et de tous ces conseils 👏. Dommage de ne pas pas pouvoir traduire les cours , je ne parle pas Anglais Good evening, thank you for sharing your knowledge and all this advice 👏. Too bad I can't translate the courses, I don't speak English
Hi my friend! Please tell me, I want to add photos and videos from my iphone to the 360 video clip… But I did not find the opportunity to add the material to the 360 application! Is it possible?
Buying multiple smaller SD-cards while traveling may actually being better then go to the ultimate. Depending where you're going, you may got robbed. Something could happen to your luggage/camera. You could lose your luggage/camera. Or the SD-card could get corrupted. In either case you still will have some saved recordings left when divided over several cards (and separately stored).
Sure- although if your gear gets stolen then so do all of your SD cards. I’ve never had the Sandisk card corrupt ever, so I personally prefer to get the bigger card to help make life much simpler.
@Rockels_Journals it’s really a personal preference. If you prefer to be extra cautious, then by all means go for the smaller cards. Also back up your footage at the end of each day.
@@BenClaremont That's true. But also depending on which areas you're going to visit. You may have more chance of being robbed for instance when exploring or filming in a crowded city, then when doing the same in a remote and peaceful village or in a nature reserve. Also depends on the country or political situation. I'm traveling a lot in Latin America on my own. Which has a pretty high chance of getting robbed. So always keeping that in mind. Here in Europe I could easily walk around and wave the cameras in all directions without relatively much risk.
I'm wary of relying on large memory cards due to corruption - my 256gb card (same one shown in the vid) suddenly couldn't be read by my x3 while on my latest holiday, had to go on a long journey to find a store that sold a compatible card to use for the rest of my holiday. Thankfully when I got home the card was still readable by my laptop and I didn't lose the footage. But def plenty of experiences of people with sd card corruption. May be best to free up space on your phone (assuming not travelling with laptop) and backup your clips there.
Yeah backing up is also a solution- as cards can corrupt regardless of the size. That said, I have never had it happen with the Sandisk extreme pro, and would prefer to have just 1 card than many.
@@BenClaremont absolutely agree - and great work on your 360 vids, as someone still new to this format it's great to see this sort of content available.
Great tips, Ben! To achieve video similar to your stroll at Mt Cook (4:55 - 5:15), any accessory for lazy people like me, to replace the need of holding the camera/stick? I like the ending phrase "experience the experience instead of just capturing the experience"
p.s. if you want your travel shots to look more cinematic, watch this video: www.benclaremont.com/cinematic360videos 🎬
The last point is surprisingly the most important!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks that video was helpful
love how you added the sound of the rain
Last advice is the best one! Thank you very much!
For sure 😎
It seems you love hiking :-) You live in a beautiful place. thanks for sharing your experience.
Yeah!!~~ You traveled to New Zealand~ I know the opening shot looks very familiar and it turns out actually is the track at Mt Cook
It’s an amazing track!
I went on that same walk (Hooker Lake) at Mt Cook in NZ last year with my 360° camera! An amazing walk for anyone heading there.
Awesome! It’s a one of a kind place, that’s for sure 😁
Got insta360 x3 this summer as my first 360 camera, and I just want to say thank you for your work. Hope my chanel will be better thanks to you

Beautiful!! You will always remind all your life and all details. You might need a very big storage device (and doubled as backup).
Superb tips. Thanks for sharing!
Best tips. I saved the video. Big thanks from Qatar :-)
Glad it helped!

Another useful video Ben especially for me as I am still learning how to shoot 360 footage, these simple steps are easy to remember I hope! 😇
Another excellent video. Thank you

This is an amazing tips even though I've been using 360 cam since 2012. So nice 👍👍Big like my friend🥰😍❤❤👌👌👌🙏😍
Viewed on my Laptop and liked on my Phone ❤👍👌👏
insta360 has such functions which ican pause while recording videos ? zoom in zoom out?
Is a iPad a good choice or even a option? I would think easier on eyes than my phone
I haven’t edited on iPad, but I don’t see why not.

Is there any topic about battery life?? For such travel we need minimu 3 batteries right?
That’s a personal choice- I only ever travel with one battery per camera as I’ve never needed more.
hi. during your travel, was your x3 on auto mode or did you manually adjust the settings?
is it true that exporting media afterediting in mobile app of insta 360 reduces the image quality than in its studio app used on pc or mac

please tell me why I can't save videos from insta 360 in 4k using my mobile phone
No surprise that the 360 video has better quality and colour than the CrApple for that comparison over the water 😜
My point was literally that the iPhone had better quality 😂
@@BenClaremont yeah I know, but the iPhone didn't look as nice to me. Poor colour for one.
@@Sparky_D colour correction is easy. If you prefer contrast over quality then sure, use a 360 camera for long range shots.

Yeah the phone app is limited with its export quality
Is it possible to export or extract a wide angle image from a 360 video that’s relatively flat? No warps on the side?
Easily. Just adjust your FOV in insta360 studio until you are happy.
Do you edit using an application on a cellphone or computer?
I did answer that in the video 😉
ANy thoughts on just 128GB memory for a travel vlog?😊
