    Thanks for speaking out so openly about this. I have been working in the movie industry my entire life. I worked 15 movies with a budget of over $100 million. There is so much money involved that perfectionism is basically a must. It was very satisfying to work on these projects but it also burnt me out. I've moved to photography and short form video where I was able to cut down the time from the idea to the final result dramatically. And just as you say, finishing an idea is the satisfaction for an artist. I can totally relate. Having said that, the reason I love your content so much is that you put so much effort into your videos. After watching them I feel like I have been informed thoroughly. It is exactly this level of attention to detail that sets you apart from the average creator. Most creators are trying to create content with the motivation to get a lot of engagement. It's about getting that video about the new camera out ASAP to be the first and get all the views. They don't take the time to really test and analyze and compare like you do. I hope you will continue to make these comprehensive videos. They are so important. Instead of letting that one comment that points out what you missed bring you down, use that as an opportunity! Make a video reply of you answering that comment, unscripted yet as another short moment of informing people. This allows you to do both styles of content and increate viewer engagement because they see that you answer their comment. Either way, you are a great artist and smart. You will do the right thing. I am happy you had a breakthrough and I'm excited to see your new content.

    It’s great seeing you liberate yourself from old, run in patterns and getting yourself into a place with a completely new perspective on your work, Mr. Ben. And I can’t wait to see where it takes you.
    That being said, just know that your perfectionism was appreciated. I got interested in 360° cameras pretty much when they first popped up at consumer level, which actually is a shockingly long time ago now. Immediately your videos were amongst the few I repeatedly watched with interest, just because of the quality of information they contained. Your videos held me back from buying my first 360 cam for several years, which isn’t a bad thing, on the contrary. The content you put out just showed me that for the money I could spend, the technology just wasn’t there yet for what I wanted.
    Now your channel has long since become the only 360 related channel I follow. I’m always looking forward to your reviews of new tech from industry favourites, as well as some new gems you inadvertently end up digging out somewhere. Almost all other channels are hyping new tech, usually because they’re sponsored, saying “absolutely get this, it’s a game changer. This has never been there before”, whereas you always follow a much more rational approach. My already great respect for you got really boosted last year, when you declined to create a video about the Go3, and explained why. My Go2 is by far my most used camera, and I was looking forward to an exciting upgrade. The Go3 wasn’t that, and you were one of the few people calling it out for that. I’m also still very happily using my One X2, thanks mostly to your videos. You gave this camera a thorough analysis, highlighting its innovations, but equally highlighting things that have simply stayed the same since the previous model. That allowed me to make an informed decision to not spend my time and money on an upgrade. Not because you told me that it was worth it or not worth it, but because your videos were thorough and detailed enough to allow me to decide for myself. That’s astonishingly rare these days, especially when it comes to content about technology.

    Make mistake or purposely inserting a harmless incorrection is like tossing a bone to those who may be haters or just those who feel good about themselves when correcting others. This way you get to please everyone. Great commentary that probably reflects on a majority of viewers.

    I like it Ben and you make great points. The thought of putting the huge effort it takes to make the type of content *you think your audience expects* does make it harder to even begin that next project. Love 360 photos + videos. So I am following you for many years now and I am very happy about every video und all the tips you gave us.
    Your content is awesome! Thank you. 😃
    Also understand how frustrated it is working for months on a video..
    At the moment, at least for us, the “Shorts” are doing much better than the videos, into which we put a lot more work.
    I've been working on a Ghostbusters video for the last few months. Also with great 360 degree shots. From New York.
    I like the video very much. But I also know that I did it for us and the fans and not to make money from it.
    For us it's a hobby. But I fully understand that the time investment has to be worth it somewhere for you.
    Maybe the "Shorts" are more worth it for you?
    But please don't stop with your great videos. Really enjoy watching them.
    Your Passion and perfection are outstanding! ❤

    Hi Ben. I've been following your channel for two years now and you even convinced me to buy my own Insta360OneX2. I've been hesitant to post my 360 content because I keep thinking that my content wouldn't be good enough when compared to others like you. However this year I've been letting go of these inhibitions and focusing on progress over perfection. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who struggles with perfectionism. Let's embrace change. 🙏

    It is very encouraging to listen to your thoughts on this. 100% with you. The most one learns is from errors, not watching the perfect thing. It leaves room for the creative spark and enables discussion. Often, there is so much more generated out of leaving such a gap open.
    Though it sometimes is hard to steer it to a positive direction, this always has to be kept in mind. However, whatever criticism there is, one can always pull something positive out of it, when acknowledging that a social barrier for „good behavior“ is naturally absent on TH-cam.

    Hey Ben, firstly happy belated birthday my friend 🎉 Meeting you in Cologne was a dream come true and an inspiration in the 360 world for me! Yes Perfectionism is a killer, but we are human and unfortunately do make mistakes along the way. Mistakes are a learning process, but not the end of the world, so don’t go too hard on yourself 😉 I’ve not been around for a while or even been commenting, but I still thoroughly enjoy your content as I always will. You’re a good true honest Egg and that is also admirable (to me anyway). Yes, I noticed my favorite people would start adding music and other effects that made it where it was irritating for me and I would have to stop watching them. Your videos have always been top notch. There have been years that I've been waiting for your (half)yearly camera mega comparison for months. The latest video was better than ever, but I think there recently has not been any significant new jumps in quality and features, making me not as excited about it no matter how good the video is. At least I dont think there was any camera more exciting than what I already own. This will hopefully change with a next generation 8K 10bit 360/stereoscopic new cameras come out. Plus I bought it to capture my kids' first years in 360. They are now growing past this so the use case becomes less exciting. In a few years they will avoid cameras like the plague if they are like me.

    I watch and have become friends with about 30-35 people and channels about our old hot rod cars. We actually rent a dragstrip once a year to get together. And even race. It’s such a fun weekend. A lot of the people put out small short videos showing how to do what normally would be a simple fix or change on his car. Half of the video is really about their personality and the other half is content. You laugh with them, ya I’ve done that !!!! And you also pickup something. A new tip. My advice - keep it light & interesting content. Most of us are beginners to some of only have enough funds to purchase a few items at a time. I can video, but I struggle at editing. If we were professional we wouldn’t need to watch these videos. You do great videos. Just don’t take these keyboard jockeys bother you. Laugh a little 👍😄

    1:08 Do with this information what you wish, but I struggle with perfectionism as well and it's because I genuinely care about the projects I produce. I am on the lowest dosage of anxiety medication possible, and it has really helped me let go of the little things that I may notice that the audience quite frankly doesn't care about. Those little details that to a small niche part of my audience may appreciate that when it comes to that ROI you mentioned last upload don't make sense from a business standpoint. Sure go crazy on occasional passion projects. Be meticulous, but in your day to day projects, there comes a point where quantity over quality has to take precedence.

    Dear Ben, for the niche of 360 I can say your videos might seem like an overkill quality. It was a pleasure to watch your content as a face of 360 camera industry, but we surely couldn't notice how much effort it took to script, record and edit those videos.
    On the other side, simply uploading 360 videos from amazing places didn't help me much 😅

You will get better and more awesome content cause you realize what is essential is the connection and fulfillment that could bring with an average to a great video. You will reach a better and larger audience this way. Also, the stress you put into making a perfect video drains your inspiration as an artist. The great right Now, it's better than a better one tomorrow.

I notice when I finally stop obsessing over everything, I still enjoy everything even if its a little off.

    If I'd be a camera company and I would develop a 360 camera, I sure would hire you as a consultant and more. I would put a team of the best youtubers and the best creatives and the best developers. Whare I feel camara makers are terribly lacking behind is image processing. The over processing is just a cover for the lack of good processing. Perfectionism in the end results is what they lack because they are mostly businessmen or engineers. Just imagine putting 2 M43 sensors in a 360 camera and have the best possible lenses on it plus the functionality of the bracketed raws of the Theta Z1 but having the HDR raw directly out of camera. Not to mention the ability to have a top notch jpeg out of it!

    Hey Ben, great video again. IMHO there's always a balance between perfection and trendy, flashy edits on one side and authenticity on the other. BUT also waisting the audiences time when it's not edited at all (like some people do). I like your last 2 videos because they are authentic and mature but not waisting my time. Your more flashy videos are also great because of all the information and entertaining but i'm not a teenager, i don't need flashy edits and sound efx but i appreciate good information and not waisting my time. I think you're getting close to nailing your bugbear - you're ALMOST live now, doing your content in a way that you're getting enjoyment from doing 1 takes. My dad was pro-photographer back in the non-digital days. His office was the darkroom, he had limited resources (big format film) limited development liquids, his 'content' couldn't be over analysed but he knew when to get the shot he needed for the client. Too much digital content and perfection means you'll always be fiddling with it to produce a subjective matter. Go back and enjoy and laugh at your first videos which were fun and you were finding out how your camera worked and you shared those great experiences with us. Thank you Ben stick with it.

    I've wondered why your video rate dropped so much. I know the paralysis of perfectionism all too well. I just want to say I really trust your opinions on 360 cameras, and I hope you keep sharing them, even if it's just you talking into a cellphone camera.

    You can't be perfect in a livestream and they're very popular, so I don't think people mind. It seems more real when it isn't too perfect, easier to relate too.

    3:41 I think you just need to learn to let go of looking foolish. I see lots of videos that throw around a line like, "So what do you think about the video? Was there something I missed? Let us know in the comment section below." As an editor, I love to watch other editors. I am always blown away by other's work flows. Someone that has been editing for a week has had opportunities to be exposed to a technique that has evaded an editor who's been at it for decades. It also is kind of important to phrase your comments in a constructive way when you do pick up on a missed point. It's not a competition. We're all following who we are to learn and grow as a community.

    Ben I have an insta 360x3 I use HDR 360 photo bracketed shots, I use affinity pro to edit out my monopod and color correction depending on the need sometimes I’ll use Lightroom classic. Then I’ll usually clean them up using the topaz sweet and get them ready for export. Do you think that perhaps investing in a insta pro 2 camera can help reduce my work flow? Because I also suffer from this perfectionist complex. I would be happy getting a just a sharper image and not spending so much time with denoising and sharpness correcting. Thanks for your honesty and support Ben!

    I think some once did research many years ago on students working with clay.. one group had to produce one piece to exacting quality and the other group focussing on quantity produced. At the end of the study the exacting group had some great work, but in the quantity group they were nearly as good, but had a room full of finished items. The premise being that the productive group learnt quickly the things that were important and the things that were not.

    1:08 making perfect content = content creator;
    taking good pictures and such are = photographer;
    taking random selfie constantly insanely are just social spammer;
    making tons of short video of nonsense or false info are Tic Tokers.
    Perfectionism, happens in every industry.
    And it made people buy better equipments, improve skills.
    btw, relax and make things casual, sometime when you sum up points, make a whole video on that, just like researcher make reports or essays or such.
    and always, the new you may disagree the old you, that is progress.

    Because that's what the channels that want you to follow their growth system are saying. When you start out yes you will improve, but there's a plateau. The bad thing is to degrade. Chasing the perfection carrot on the stick can burn you out.
