  • In this video I review the Zapperbox A1 Indoor/Outdoor Antenna by Televes. It features a built in 5G filter, out of band filtering, amplifier with automatic gain control, and separate outputs all in a very low profile design. You can place it on a table, shelf, window, outdoors, or even in the attic.

It's a great small suburban style directional antenna, in the same ballpark as a Televes Dinova, Antop Bigboy, or Clearstream, to name a few, but with more installation options: pole mount, wall mount, desk mount, standalone

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  ปีที่แล้ว +10

I did keep the video relatively brief because that's what the majority of my audience seems to want. If I get too technical, a lot of viewers tune out which hurts the reach of the video. The way I see it, my average viewer is a non-technical cord cutter so I have to cater to them. I wouldn't really have a way to test the 5G aspect of the antenna anyway as I don't have 5G internet.

Wow! Those results pretty much speak for themselves, especially when you go back and look at older reviews for indoor antennas that were clearly better than the previous two. Even the best that I can recall didn't perform this well. Well done, Televes!

Good reception for an indoor antenna. May seem a bit pricey, but better than throwing money away on junk. The big plus is that it can be used indoors or outdoors. Should be a great seller once the word gets around how good this antenna is.

Many other antennas can be used indoors and outdoors too and cost a lot less. The problem with this antenna is that it is 3 antennas in one, so you are paying for two antennas you probably will never use.

I bought this when it first came out out and used it to replace a 15-20 year old RCA indoor antenna with amplifier. Bottom line is that the antenna works very well in my case. I live amongst trees 42 miles SW of the main transmitters in North Carolina and had to constantly move the RCA around in my driveway to get the local stations, including one on the VHF band. I purchased the Zapperbox tuner and that helped, but some channels would occasionally fall off, but not nearly as much as before. I then purchased this antenna and it made a big difference whereby the signals are much stronger and I no longer need to move the antenna around to pickup the stations. With this setup I’m now able to watch tv inside the house with the new antenna sitting on a table on my front porch connected with a connector that brings the coax under a window. Overall, the build quality of the antenna seems excellent which is consistent with what Tyler says about Televes products.

If ATSC 3.0 ever gets back on track, this antenna is ready for MIMO which uses one vertically polarized broadcast and one horizontally polarized broadcast (current) and would use a special dual tuner. This would give the data bandwidth 113 to 114mbs. For reference, ATSC 1.0 has 19mbs, ATSC 3.0 has three times that or 57mbs, ATSC 3.0 MIMO uses both antennas and provides nearly double the 57mbs. Test runs have been performed in both the USA and South Korea successfully.

I just set this one up and I am impressed. I had a roof antenna -- Televes Boss DigaNova -- but during roof work it was damaged. It also has trouble getting some stations. Previously, I was using a Mohu Leaf Supreme Pro which got all my ATSC 1.0 UHF channels but couldn't get my one VHF channels (PBS 12.X) and was not reliable for the four ATSC 3.0 channels in my area. I set up the Zapperbox A1, connected it my HD HomeRun 4K Flex DVR and I was able to get all my ATSC 1.0 UHF channels and ATSC 3.0 Channels with a higher signal strength than the Mohu could and I also go my VHF channels to come in. It is set up in a window pointing at most of my towers but still picks up the towers in the opposite direction very strongly (something the DigaNova) had trouble with. Great recommendation!

@antennaman Hi Tyler. Will this work well with the ClearStream 4MAX outdoor antenna? Would the 4Max or the included Zapperbox outdoor antenna be better? How does the tuner compare to the Tablo (Gen3) and, possibly, the Gen-4. I currently have the Gen3. I have the Tablo connected to the antenna and send the signal over wifi to the TVs. Will the Zapperbox do that? The Tablo Gen 3 does seem to have some connection issues for me from time to time. I need to reset it several times per week? Will the Zapperbox or the Tablo Gen4 be more 'stable'? Thank you for all the great content.

Tyler, I live in a subdivision that does not allow outdoor antennas. I’d like to get rid of my cable bill, but none of the streaming services carries the local channels for my town, Bowling Green, KY. I’ve tried three different indoor antennas and the best of the would only get 6 of the 22 local channels. All the transmitters are within 12 miles of my house. Where I live is relatively flat and there are no tall structures that could be blocking the signal, however I am unable to get the indoor antennas near a northern facing window. My house is made of brick, so I’m guessing that is the cause of the poor indoor antenna performance. Hence I am looking for a recommendation for an attic antenna. You mention using the Zapperbox in the attic, but before I purchase one, I would like to know if there is a better attic antenna recommendation. Looking forward to reading your response. George

Tyler, every time I watch one of your antenna reviews, I'm annoyed by the fact that you compare the new antenna to the last 2 antennas of it's class. I realize that this makes it easy for you to generate the comparison figures since they're fresh in you review data, but it's always a moving target for us viewers. It would be much more useful in my opinion to compare the new antenna to the current best-in-class and to an average in class (don't care about worst). That would give us a more absolute comparison, and it can't be much harder for you to keep the best and average numbers around for reference.

My TH-cam channel is supported mostly by views. I have always included the results of the last two antennas to give a general idea of how the antenna performs. If someone wants to see how it performs to other antennas I previously reviewed prior to the last two, they have to watch my other videos. If they chose not to do so, they can either go on my Amazon page for a list of recommended antennas or sign up for my antenna recommendation service.

Isn't this the same technology as the Televes Bexia indoor antenna? (Which sells for $60.00).
I am considering purchasing that, largely for its advertised feature of automatic adjustment of the amplification element when necessary.
Specifically, I refer to their website claim that this "automatically adapts its gain in real time to optimize the reception of television signals, ensuring the optimum level of signal is delivered at all times."
Typically, amplifiers have failed me because I'm less than 35 miles from most broadcasting towers and the amplification makes the picture worse with overkill. I get over 140 channels (many duplicates overlapping from different metropolitans) with my nonamplified Winegard flatwave window antenna, but loss of signal and tiling do occur on occasion with some 1080i channels. In my interest in eliminating this, I'm thinking that an automated noise reduction and boosted amplification as necessary can help.
I've noticed that the Televes Bexia antenna mentions a 30-mile radius and not the usual 35-mile radius which I find peculiar. What is the advertised range on this one?
My question is whether you tested this feature extensively enough to observe the automated gain with this device.
This ZapperBox labeled model actually sells for less ($30.00) than the Televes Bexia right from Televes directly.

With the reflector installed the antenna is directional with a beam width of about 50º in UHF. With the reflector removed, it becomes omnidirectional, but gain decreases and it is of course more subject to multi path interference. The best way to use it is with the reflector installed and aimed in the direction of the transmitters.

I watched this today and was impressed with the VHF reception you showed. I currently have a cheap 2020 5 start antenna installed in the attic. All the transmitters are all in the same general area 32 miles away from 32080 zip code. While it does get 7 and 25 on occasion, they are not really watchable. I run it into a 4 channel/port Channel master amplifier (Their newest). I was wondering if this antenna would give better reception all things being equal. There isn't really a "maximum range" for an antenna as it depends on a ton of factors. This antenna is probably best within 30-40 miles of the broadcast towers. Tyler my Antop antenna when purchased a few years ago worked amazingly well but not sure why but possibly due to the new integration nexgen 3.0 and 5G start ups went into effect, many stations were now problematic in giving a clear signal in my area.
On Prime Day I took advantage of the Discount offer on the Telves Evoca antenna and finally I again have an antenna I am happy with. I did experience minor issues here with two stations that occasionally gave me brief pixelation issues but they were short lived. I believe it possibly was due to some electrical wave interruption or either coming from another home somewhere close by.
At this time I do not see the need to invest in the zapper box or Home run nexgen device upgrade since the televise EVOCA meets my needs perfectly.
I figure eventually NEXGEN 3.0 tuners may be standardly built into future TVs. 60 channels is plenty to watch and it combines well with my Roku TV' tuners that integrates internet streaming to add on over 100 Chanel to the ROKU TV tuner.
This by far is the most helpful video you have made for my needs, keep up the great work. We all appreciate you very much.
