I have the dual tuner version and it works great for me. They're adding new features frequently too. It was $270, but I like the upgraded picture quality of 3.0 and the ability to record. I make up the upfront cost by cutting the bill of streaming services. And the optional $2.50 per month for guide data isn't going to be something I lose sleep over. Well worth it.
Thanks for the video!! Given the cost of the box (~250 Single Tuner ~275 for dual tuner version in 6/2024) it should come with a guide info for free for FIVE years to offset the cost. Being 30/yr just for the guide is nuts. Thanks for the video. I'd like to see support for SATA hard drive direct connections.
I saw that as well, on their webpage it states, watch tv without the monthly bill, well to get that guide it is effectively a $2.50 a month bill. It does say you can use it without buying the subscription but defeats the normal use case if you are getting this type of device. I've had multiple OTA Tivo's and having the lifetime option was the best. Even have a Bolt that someone gave me and they let the subscription expire, but it still works for me with only limited guide issues, I get the guide downloads but sometimes the names are blank on the guide but still work. I would suggest Zapperbox change their marketing about being "Free" and also add a lifetime subscription option.
ATSC-3 stations are slower to load because the box has to check for DRM encryptions and load the parameters from the internet. Also, it has to read which modulation and decoding it has to use.
@BreakTime10101 You could always go the HDHOMERUN route and incorporate a Plex Server. With a PLEX lifetime account, you also get a free guide and can stream to every device on your network. I'm running 2 Legacy ATSC 1.0 HDHOMERUN boxes (8 tuners) and 2 newer boxes, which comprise of 2 ATSC 1.0 tuners and 2 ATSC 3.0 tuners. Regardless of the device, none are going to record the new ATSC 3.0 DRM content, just so you know.
Hopefully when they drop a 4 tuner they bring back the lifetime subscription also. Then I am totally in along with another zapperbox for multiroom dvr.
this week you reported the drm on next gen tv is free of encryption. Atsc 1.0 was weaker signals ever since they started encryption. This week that changed ever since the zapper box could decode. Now my telaves antenna is getting 65 to 90 channels the way it was supposed to. Thought you should know this is the Orlando area.
Boycott OTA DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV because it is DRM dead. Long live ATSC 1.0 with true no restrictions OTA TV recordlings and no internet needed.
Nate, the less expensive and far superior (for my needs) HDHomeRun FLEX 4K supports ATSC 3.0 (2x 3.0 tuners and 2x 1.0 tuners) and isn't a beta product as it's had several years worth of firmware updates.
@@NaterTater yeah it doesn't, I refuse to support any TV station which uses DRM so I'm not interested in it. Honestly I hope ATSC 3 adoption fails and we get a truly open format like the European adoption of DVB-T2.
@@timmturner DVB-T2 is not free of DRM. In Denmark,Sweden, and other countries I think Norway, there are channels that are behind a paywall with DRM too.

Yes, 3.0 is capable of 4k resolution but stations are being pretty slow to adopt it. Most in my area are 1080p which is still better than the best 1.0 stations at 1080i
I have tried the Zinwell nextgen box.Did not pick up alot of channels that my tv tuner would.3.0 channels would freeze up every couple of minutes for a second or two.Any of these problems with zapperbox?
Seems like a nice device, but at $275 it's nearly 3X the cost of competitors like Tablo 4th generation at $100. Also considering HD HomeRun device at $110. The Zapper price is just too steep to justify.
Buying all this stuff at hefty price + a subscription seems crazy for cord cutting. Plus you need to be the type that are not interested in sports. Yes you can get some on the networks but a lot of what I like is on ESPN, fs1 and The Golf Channel. It might be fine some but won’t get it done for me. I’ll stick with YTTV.
I gave up on sports streaming. MLBTV has too many games blacked out for my team. I tried using a VPN to change which location I’m streaming, but couldn’t get it to work. If I can’t get the game on a free channel, I’ll just watch the highlights on the news.
The mess with the DRM has soured me on ATSC 3.0, and my market of Augusta, GA does not even have it yet, also Anton Kepea who owns K03IM-D in Eugene, OR has proved the networks could broadcast multiple 4k streams on a single channel over ATSC 1.0, or high bitrate 1080p vs. the current 1080i standard, and most modern 4K TV's can decode the streams with a good signal propagation, and image quality, he just had to choose the right codecs, and fit them in the net bit rate of 19.39 Mbit/s of usable data. So ATSC 3.0 in my eyes nothing more than corps trying to get back control of OTA TV to force us on streaming, the FCC, & FTC have been hands off with it letting the corps sort out all the details, and again it does not look good for consumers, so I hope ATSC 3.0 falls flat on its face, and the FCC makes 4K over ATSC 1.0 the new standard!!! Edit: It also looks like LG/Zenith has pulled support for ATSC 3.0 after a patent troll won against them in court, so no more ATSC 3.0 tuners in their TV's going forward., and they were one of the biggest supporters of ATSC 3.0, so that's a huge blow to the ATSC 3.0 standard, and as others have said the price of all this is way to much, I'll stick to ATSC 1.0.
All that might be valid and even if ATSC 3.0 falls flat it really doesn't change the use of this box. It does 1.0 and 3.0 so it's really just protecting you for either option.
Probably sooner than 2050 but yes it has been a slow roll out. Astc 1.0 has to be supported for no less than 3 more years from now but I imagine it will last much long.
