    My father just bought this same Outlander in the new 2017 model year and I can tell you the 3.0L MIVEC V6 feels stronger in normal real-world driving than the numbers & figures would suggest due to the MIVEC VVT & the 2-stage variable intake manifold which allows the V6 to make nearly 90% of its peak torque at only 2,000rpm. People who complain about the power output also forget that the V6 achieves class-leading fuel economy figures of 20mpg city & 27mpg highway even with the AWD! That's nearly as good as most of the 4-cylinder competition. 0-60 of 7.6 seconds is actually quite good considering the size and weight of the GT model, however I still think Mitsubishi could always increase displacement to 3.4L-3.9L and add direct injection which would give a big boost in performance with very little if any drop in fuel economy. They could always keep the larger-displacement DI V6 exclusive to the North American market if they wanted to.

      requires premium gas though so the mileage improvement over other V6 suv's gets cancelled in fuel cost

    I think Mitsubishi's styling is heading in a good direction! Their powertrains really need to be updated though. Give the Outlander a 4 pot that makes around 200hp without being too thirsty and it would be far more compelling that that premium-drinking V6 IMO. Lower trims seem to be at a decent price point.

      The Eclipse Cross is coming, even though it's not the same Mitsubishi Eclipse you would want. It's supposed to have a 1.5L I4 Turbo that is said to have more horsepower than the 2.4L I4 in the Outlander & Outlander Sport, as well as AWD. Wait until the Geneva Autoshow if you want to learn more.

    • @masterwhopper414

      It's fucking lame if you remember that Mitsubishi has already used a 3.5l MIVEC V6 in the past on their Eclipse. Why not bring that 250 hp to the Outlander GT? No wonder Mitsubishi's sucking dick.

    Probably the only good Mitsubishi left after the Evo death, the Outlader GT 3.0 V6 and 6 speed automatic is the only SUV I would buy from Mitsubishi nowadays, I drive an Eclipse GT with 160k miles and drives like a dream.

  • @Vezmerize

    I have to disagree. I am in the market for 7 seats and this is a great entry option. You can get much larger in the Dodge Journey but the ride in this feels much nicer. The 3rd row is not good for 2+ hours but if you want to take the scout troop or some kids to an event this gives you the most bang for your buck. I only wish they would bring the V6 up to speed with some direct injection mojo and get it to the 300hp mark commonly seen at this displacement.

    • @LoyalmoonieProductions
      @LoyalmoonieProductions 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in order for the V6 to cross the 300hp mark, Mitsubishi would have to make a Twin turbo design, similar to the 3000GT VR-4. Its intriguing, but the chances of Mitsubishi building a high performance engine at this time are somewhat slim, despite the Nissan deal.

    • @crazyjkz
      @crazyjkz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      wiiplayer9revisited They wouldn't necessarily have to go with forced-induction to achieve 300hp. If they kept this basic V6 design (which is actually a good & modern design) and upped the displacement to somewhere in the 3.5L-4.0L range and added direct injection they should have no problem getting 300hp or at least somewhere very close to it, along with a big boost in torque with minimal reduction in fuel economy thanks to the DI. The 3.0L already has the MIVEC & the variable intake manifold which combine to allow very good breathing at higher rpms, but what it's lacking is sufficient low-mid range torque. Mitsubishi used to build a competitive 3.8L MIVEC V6 in their previous V6 design family for the Eclipse & Galant, and that motor had ALOT of torque. Bring the displacement back to the 3.5L-3.8L range along with the DI, and this would give the Outlander a BIG boost in performance.

    i was expecting motorweek to bash this car for lack of improvements but it looks like Mitsubishi was willing to invest in it's best seller to stop that from happening. this might be good for the short term but im really not sure how they can compete in the long term

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +jump oricakle I agree as long as people are willing to be screwed by dishonest car makers of Europeans it is hard for honest Mitsubishi to compete with crooks.

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      amoinus Actually you spoke without reading your own source. It says;
      "This data manipulation is neither as high-tech nor as widespread as Volkswagen's emission lies -- the German company used software to change the way its diesel cars behaved during standard testing"
      Data manipulation is something RIGGING i somethingelse. You should read what the issue was. Similar thing to MItsubishi occured with Hundai. Europeans are trying to hogwash now. REMEMBER NISSAN IS ACTULLY A EUROPEAN COMPANY NOW. Please go read the article and realize the difference between VW (European) and others, :).

    • @Fussinated

      "I did read the article and listened to it on NPR... So Mitsubishi did lie about their results. It just wasn't as big. I guess I wasn't being clear and I'm sorry about that"
      No, no. "AS BIG" is not the word to describe the difference.
      What Mitsubishi did was going on in the market for a long time. Car companies made their own test and claimed that their results precedes the official results etc. Hyundai was sued by people that their EPA numbers does not match the real life results for example. or Ford the same thing. Mitsubishi did a little different by making their test cars lighter and that's all .
      Those numbers though, as well as Mitsubishi's numbers, are real results that can be repeated given the same conditions. While VW cheated the emission measuring computers by rigging the ECU. The car was producing dirty exhaust even when it is connected to the computer but the results read differently during measuring due to rigging the ECU..
      This is out right CHEATING and BEING DISHONEST.

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AGAIN. The conduct of VW is incomparable to any other practice in the market. Your response was about making a correlation between Mitsubishi and VW by the way they conducted business. Because, it is a response to my comment about the conduct of VW, I inadvertently conclude that you try to establish this correlation one way or another.
      So, is it me who is misunderstanding you or is it you who misplaced your comment by directing it to me?

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      amoinus
      I am glad t hat its is your last response.
      Let's establish this. My original comment is about VW. And I compared it to Mitsubishi.
      Then, you brought up an article about Mitsubishi not being honest as well.
      So, I respond that what Mitsubishi did is not cheating but trying to get an edge in the market which many other companies applied.
      So, yes, Mitsubishi is still doing honest business in comparison to VW and Audi.
      As for the article you referred again please read before you gave them as reference.
      "This may be different from Volkswagen’s issue, but the market has become very sensitive to such kind of news," Tokyo-based analyst Seiji Sugiura told Bloomberg. "It may have a similar impact in terms of sales and the company’s reputation."
      So, this issue is elevated into a more serious position due to the VW/Audi event and actually considering the fact that for over a decade VW group is trying to steal the market share of Mitsubishi they might even have a hand in this so called "cheating." This is another magicians trick by Europeans to point the finger somewhere else and then save their asses i.e. a hogwash and you are falling for this.

Or even better would be a turbo/supercharged version of the 3.0L MIVEC V6! Something like this could really bring some much-needed life back into the North American Mitsubishi brand!

    3.0L SINGLE cam engine putting out 224HP and 215lb-ft? In 2015? That is beyond pathetic! Every other manufacturer has advanced 2.0L/1.8L engines putting out MORE than that with much better fuel economy. This is Mitsubishi's dying breath.

    • @foxtrot685
      @foxtrot685 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      what's funny is most of its competitors DO NOT offer optional engines and those that do offer them aren't much faster in the 0-60 jaunt or 1/4 mile, not that those metrics matter to the demographic that purchases this type of vehicle.

    • @WilkerLMHS
      @WilkerLMHS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Darryl Henry What? The crappy outdated Chevy Equinox offers an I4 and hearty V6.. the multiple Kia/Hyundai crossovers offer multiple engines each. the Ford Edge offer a 2.0 Turbo, a 3.5 V6 and 2.7 Twin Turbo V6... and I'm pretty sure all are quicker than the Outlander

    • @foxtrot685
      @foxtrot685 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dominick Wilker well the Ford edge is not a competitor to the outlander, so that's out. The V6 Equinox with the 301 horse 3.6L has a 0-60 time of 7.0 seconds according to Edmunds with an epa rating of 16 city and 23 highway with awd... both worse. The Hyundai Santa fe sport runs to 60 in only 0.2 seconds faster than the outlander despite a wealth more power and at 18/24 mpg it is worse according to car and driver. Motor Trend got a kia sportage sx awd to 60 in 7.6 seconds which is quite slower, and at 19/25 it's worse at fuel economy. And lastly the forester xt ran to 60 in about 6.5 seconds which isn't much faster despite more power, although it is thrifty at 23/28. So, my statement still stands, others with more power and more advanced drive trains aren't much faster or dramatically more efficient and the numbers back me up.

    • @foxtrot685
      @foxtrot685 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dominick Wilker that santa fe sport was the 2.0T btw...

    • @foxtrot685
      @foxtrot685 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh forgot about the Ford Escape. Motor review moved a 2.0 titanium awd to 60 in 6.8 seconds. These are rated at 21/28, so barely better economy. The murano, edge, Sorento, and even the Santa Fe Sport are tweener cuv's. They are too big to fit in the compact class, which is where the outlander sits, but too small to fit in the midsized class. So they are literally in between classes, or tweeners.
