i just have to confess upon first viewing, at the final cadence i has some kind of emotional catharsis and broke-down weeping a surge of tears. Kiri has nostalgic poise, ethereal elegance and such sublime sincerity that just cradles your heart, suspending one in a dimension of disbelief, and hints of heaven! I'm honored to catch a glimpse of a truly unique artist of royal calibre who are genuinely deliver us sheerly inspired musical craft that is timelessly memorable, and indescribably moving.
@MOJO3011 While I adore Dame Kiri, and always will, for me, Madam Auger defined this piece. However, their versions ARE slightly different in ornamentation, with Dame Kiri taking some of the lower notes and Madam Auger the higher with more fioratura. Both renditions are wonderful and both deserve to be heard!
Well said! Sick of so called "experts" too who have probably never performed in their lives in any shape or form or never advanced beyond the keen amateur stage.
You can be made a Dame if you are part of the British Empire, which New Zealand is/was (sorry for my ignorance, but I know it was at the time of her knighting) :-)
@LeTampinateur My comment was directed the bitter old queen who said this performance was disasterous. Are you asking me why its not disasterous or are you somehow confused that you thought I was knocking Dame Kiri?!
You're completely right. And why should anybody believe some armchair-youtube-user, who comes along and doubts Kiri Te Kanawa's technique? @thecritiquevirtuoso Not very convincing this stupid comment of yours...-.-'
a bit too many smears & slides, not as much technical control and rhythmic pulse when you compare to others- lovely voice though. Arleen Auger is the one to watch singing this. She is by far the most outstanding on this...
@ProudlyFilipino Filipinos are more proud of Imelda Marcos than of that stupid comment. She came of the voice very briefly. I know this is an old comment, but its a very very stupid one.
Sorry once again to be skeptical, but -- as they say about baseball players -- there are holes in her swing. She can't match her lower and higher registers, she relies on an ugly vibrato to aide her tuning, and she enters off pitch altogether too often, including on the first syllable of "Exulatate".
Julia Lezhneva is the best at this today by far, until Patricia Janeckova completes her training.then she will be the best for as long as she sings as she has the most beautiful voice in clarity, quality mellowness, everything.
Don't waste your time, in each lyrical music video there's an """ EXPERT """ - probably a mom-sofa-based scholar - pointing a plethora of imaginary flaws on performances
80 years young !!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ Have a blast, Dame!
She arguable sang it the best. No one can imitate her unique voice....the mother sounds so clean....so clean...
Arleen Auger is another standard in this motette

Pure Heavenly Beauty of Mozart's Music!
Finally a beautiful performance of this great classic
Thanks for this wonderful treat.
Kiri at her best! Seems as she does not sing but doing a kind of gymnastics with her incredible voice...
written at 17 yrs .. . something that cant be sunk in trying to fathom ... given up time ago imaging the brilliance of it all
why not just enjoy that fact that we were lucky enough to hear all of these wonderful singers and not pick them to death.
Great music it's Mozart ❤normal 3:08

@LeTampinateur apparently alot of people are confused and didn't read the comment in context either as I LOVE Dame Kiri
wonderful
when i think mozart composed this at age 17, it makes me feel so small
@whistlenotelover what a lovely comment, thank you for sharing your experience. so beautifully stated
I beg to differ, technical mastery is a requisite for any professional singer; even more so for someone of such a "calibre" as Te Kanawa.

marvellous!!!
@marinjohn
You should listen to Lucia Popp or Edith Mathis
@n5rnd yes yes i know i meant about her Italian in general.

Hardly disastrous, but thanks for playing.
1:50 - 2:25
He composed this at 17?!
woah!
He got going composing a good few years before this.
omg lol do you teach opera? do you train singers?
@MissLimLam Some might say, You're damed if you and damed if you don't.
by the way, it's "damned," not "damed," as you have it.
You're completely right. And why should anybody believe some armchair-youtube-user, who comes along and doubts Kiri Te Kanawa's technique?

Brain requested this again: Thanks.

Are you serious????

Barbara Bonney sings this better. Not nearly as choppy.

So unforced.
