If they handed out Grammys for the intros to hit singles the producers of "Reflections" by The Supremes should win one hands down. It was waaaay cool back then and, just like most Supremes singles, has held up beautifully with the passage of the years.
To this day this song is still healing. Strange to say but it nursed me through my divorce. Thank you to the group that was real and truly talented. We need more of that today. Too many solo groups. Thank you for this song. I'm healed and he regrets! He looks a mess lol!
+kswannie I've said it once I'll say it again.... Flo was the backbone of the SUPREMES. HDH knew just where to place those voices and they put Flo's in the right place each time.....as you said nothing but love for Flo FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!! Was this Flo's last hit song with the Supremes ?????
Good to see that Florence Ballard is on these pics knowing that came up the name of the Supremes. She deserves the credit and respect that she didn't get. Love Florence Ballard Forever.
I still think Coleen McMurphy had all over "Hot Lips" Hooligan! China Beach Head Nurse: McMurphy! What's your weapon of choice! McMurphy: "Tweezers! Equipped with a silencer!!
@Ken Zeleny no you’re not Marlene herself stated that she was asked to join Mary in the studio because Flo missed the session . She was the first pick to replace Flo but turned it down
No Flo missed the session. It’s only Mary and Marlene here. You’re thinking of In and Out of Love. The Andantes were overdubbed over Mary and Flo’s vocals there
John. this is a sublime reworking, true to the original intent, but with SO much more woven into it. In retrospect, the original vinyl album side one had slightly, dare I say psychedelic musical influences, while side two featured less adventurous material. Cloud Nine, The Temptations first foray into Norman Whitfield's "psychedelic soul" took the same approach. Norman did cut work with The Supremes, but Berry most likely didn't want to go there. Our loss for sure. Thanks for this great mix!
back in the 60's I was in the Army on leave walking down the street in Denmark and heard stop in the name of love wow!! knocked my socks off what a great singer.
Florence Ballard was a talented singer in her own right...Berry Gordy, genius; however...while he was 'promoting' Diana Ross (at some point) I believe he could have made solo artists / stars of each...in the same way with all the Temptation's 'lead singers' and lineup changes. Thank you and God bless. RIP Flo. Thanks for the upload, mosogotam. Blessings
A hauntingly beautiful song. Mosogotam, your mix does it justice. What a bass line; what an arrangement. This song and others you chose to mix, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for doing such a caring job to these great Motown songs.
Florence had an awesome singing voice, I just Love hearing her sing. She'll ALWAYS be My favorite TRUE QUEEN SUPREME Forever. Love you Florence Glenda Ballard.
In the middle of this, when Diana Ross starts singing, you understand why she was the talent, even though the strength of her voice is limited, its timbre, and her phrasing, is mesmerizing.
See you had to work in a diss with your compliment. Her strength of her voice is just fine. Her voice if why the Supremes had 12 number ones and countless top 40 hits. in addition to her solo 6 number ones and countless top 40 hits.
@@Pseudofusion I think when Mary wrote that she might have forgot herself. there was no technology that prove otherwise. Marlene subbed for Flo. And this wasn’t the first or second time this happened.
@@Pseudofusion but you can’t argue with technology. George Solomon and Andrew skurow who are responsible for all of the releases of Supremes material and have access to the logs and have the technology to separate voices on the song confirmed that Marlene Barrow sang with Mary not Flo
Mosogotam, great job! Wish you could compile all your works onto one CD and have it available for purchase. You have given new life to every song you re-edit. And, with the Supremes, especially the original group, you allow Mary and Flo to shine and be heard like never before! Thanks so much for your wonderful contributions!
Fabulous job John!! I love it when you bring out the background vocals, it should show to younger viewers that it was more than just Diana. I still miss your "In and Out Love" mix under your previous user name. What you did with that video was one of your best! Always loved Mary as a blonde.
Damn dude, this gave me goose bumps, just listening to your extended version and seeing the old pictures and cinematography of back in the day, it was sensational. Reflection of was my favorite song that I would play over and over. Thank you is all I can say!!!!
@@JackRossiney Your Absolutely right, even after (2) years ago since my comment, watching the entire video again, still has the same affect in October 2020, Magnificent song performed by women ahead of their time!!!!!!!!!!
'China Beach' was f-ing cool and this song was used for the intro sequences! The shorter version was used that can only do the song, and era justice because of the character intros were during the sequence.

A kid when they had their hey day, this is pure magic, every girl I knew wanted to be a Supreme, Diana, Florence, Mary, Cindy and even Jean after Diana, they will never be equaled, so glad I got to witness a part of it..
JJ’s bass lines are great and rhythmic. It’s really kind of a trippy song and you get used to it. The hook is normal, the rest is artsy and psychedelic.
CS....thank you so very much! I will gather "In and Out..." and rework the video (Ed Sullivan's company doesn't allow his performances on youtube...). And, you're right... Mary was a knockout as a blonde

In the wiki article for the "Reflections" album, Marlene Barrow is listed as providing background vocals with Mary on the "Reflections" song. However, in other places, including wiki, Flo is credited with providing backing vocals as well. Now I'm curious to see the original album (the one with Flo in some of the cover photos) credits to cerify that.
