    Nathaniel Drew's content is self-improvement with actual honesty, intimacy, grounded-ness, life, and humanness. This is why I think this channel shines the most among the rest. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth lumping his "content" as "self-improvement" but, yeah, his messages and stories are just something very special in the age of content that pushes people like they're supposed to be machines and make them feel guilty for some flaw they have in their productivity and subjective shortcomings. Nathaniel Drew just reminds me again that I'm human, and that the things I'm looking for often aren't what they seem to be, and that the real things may be just right in front of me the whole time. Nathaniel Drew is a meditation. Nathaniel Drew is a friend. Not a channel, but a friend who really impacts how I see my life, and how I love the people around me.
    I'm really glad that he and Thomas (& Yes Theory) are his friends now since I always watched both Yes Theory and Nathaniel and I kind of lumped both of these channels in the same bubble of "channels that actually see the experience of life with whole heart". And yeah, thank you guys so much.

    *Something that helped me recently was musings on* "If I had one year left to live."
    I wrote this journal entry about what I'd like the rest of my life to look like, if the expiration date was one year from today. The results shocked me. I realized out of everything I'd want to do, none of them were increased thrills or risky choices because "if it's all going to end soon anyways, what's the point?" No; they were all things I want to do TODAY but am afraid of engaging on.
    I'd start a podcast. I'd have conversations with people about mental health. I'd open dialogue with people I've hurt and want forgiveness from. I'd simply be a better human being.
    Now the challenge is "waking up" and realizing that I don't need to think I'm going to die to live the life I want to live. I simply need to take the steps that future me (and younger me) is begging for.
    We don't make choices out of fear -- that's fine, it's a human tendency to fear. But it's what you fear, and what it causes you to do or not do, that makes all the difference.
    There is no life to regret if you choose the right thing every moment.

    Thank you for this INCREDIBLE conversation! This was super inspiring and insightful. Here are some notes that I took while watching:
    - Check in with yourself often to make sure your decisions are really your own.
    - Differentiate the things you can't control from the things you can control.
    - Listen to your intuition.
    - Your strategy has to change over time. ("What got you here won't get you there.")
    - Don't be afraid of doing things that don't scale. Instead, recognize when it's time to change.
    - If things are not working out, try to get some distance. (Be aware of tunnel vision. Try to look at the bigger picture. Try something new.)
    - Moderation / "The Middle Way"
    - Processing and reflecting on experiences is important.
    - Spending quality time with people or menial things like doing the dishes can be productive as well. Make sure to not fall into the productivity trap!
    - People have no fucking idea what they are doing. No one has "figured it out", so don't feel bad about the fact that you haven't figured it out either.
    - Explore your boundaries. Expand your horizon by trying new things and experimenting. Retune your intuition.
    - Even if you figure out that your old way of doing things was actually right for you, it was still worth it because you were able to solidify that.
    - "My ass cheeks dude!" 🤣

    "Detachment means to have neither regrets for the past nor fears for the future; to let life take its course without attempting to interfere with its movement and chance, neither trying to prolong the stay of things pleasant nor to hasten the departure of things unpleasant. To do this is to move in time with life, to be in perfect accord with its changing music." - Alan Watts

      So basically being passive ?

    • @banzy3
      @banzy3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@caterinas6863 No not necessarily. Move in a direction, if you want choose an island you wish to swim to, but don't push hard against the current if things become turbulent and move you in a different direction. You don't need to be passive, just flexible so that you can move with the rhythms of life, especially those things that are not in our control, or you will be exhausted and unhappy. Have goals, but don't set them in stone.

    • @swolemaz_
      @swolemaz_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the word detachment needs to be replaced

    • @banzy3
      @banzy3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@swolemaz_ Perhaps it could be better worded, but detachment doesn't mean being emotionally void or detached from reality/society/yourself, it's simply being accepting and present. If you emotionally invest yourself so deeply into your pursuits, and things don't go to plan, you will feel wretched. Or as another example, if you become so immersed in reading the news, you may perceive that to be reality, and every new story might bring with it anxiety and despair. Detachment, to me at least, is something more along the lines of stoicism.

    I used to beat myself up so much about doing things in my business that I knew would work and help but that wouldn't scale. Hearing Thomas say, "You've got to do things that don't scale to start the momentum and then change." made me feel so much better today. I'm at that "change" point. Thanks for this!! Totally unexpectedly helpful!

    I lOVE this. I spent hours live streaming and talking about this exact thing. I've spent hours and almost sleepless nights grinding out content and the high of gaining followers and views is like a wave, but in the end, it isn't sustainable. I realized I almost hated making things and drawing and I had to take a big break and let myself naturally begin to feel hunger to make things and then letting myself create without the immense stress of quantity. The quality of content and artwork I've been able to make has been worth the slowing down of the "factory production" levels of creation. Great video thank you for the simple yet informative video. I am so grateful to be able to relate to other content creators, makes me feel less alone. Thank you.

I would love to meet both of you since I follow both of your channels and I completely adore both of you as the amazing individuals you are (including the rest of the Yes Theory fam) and being able to witness this simple (and not so simple) conversation between you two guys as two friends sitting under a tree having an amazing chatter is incredible. This was poetically beautiful. Thank you for this gift.

    8:20 Time of reflection vs Living in survival mode.
    This is something I’ve thought about a lot lately, have had multiple meaningful conversations about and have wanted to combine those thoughts into a video myself.
    Last 3 years my videography business has grown and I’ve been constantly overworking + trying to chase my personal dreams (travel vids, art, new brand) and trying to cope with a lot of changes etc, feeling highly stressed for months and constantly in the survival mode. To the point I burned out multiple times - first my health started to take a toll, physical pains, depression and overall it took me a lot of time to bounce back from intense projects. To the point i was doing and achieving more than ever, but unhappy and least confident I had ever felt. And the conclusion I’ve come to - the most important thing is to have time between experience. Have time to reflect. And not to stay in survival mode months and months at a time. Thank you for touching on this and helping me remind the importance of time for reflection.

    Thank you for sharing. I literally took notes during this video and wrote down some things that really resonated with me and were a comfort to know that 2 people that I look up to felt the same way. I am considering a big change right now to take a break from working FT to concentrate on improving my health and stress level, hopefully gain more energy, and to spend more quality time with my little one. Like you said when you’re worn down the answer is not buckling down and keep doing the same thing. ✌️☮️
