Yeah - This IS a sing-along, and watching y’all get caught up enough in the music to bust out singing was a joy! I sang along with you. Thanks for the reaction. Just an aside - I could be wrong, but I think this group’s name is “Blue Swede” (like in Sweden) rather than “Blue Suede” (like Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes). Cheers!
Strictly speaking, Blue Swede was not covering B.J. Thomas' original of this. They were covering the version done by British singer Jonathan King which was a hit in the UK and Europe. The Ooga-Chaka was in King's version (he claims he was inspired by hearing Johnny Preston's 1959 hit about Native American warriors, "Running Bear." Mark James, who wrote "Suspicious Minds" for Elvis Presley, wrote the original B.J. Thomas version and probably was not pleased. (Although I'm sure he accepted the rpyalties very graciously)
A True Classic. I bought the 45rpm when I was young and promptly wore it out. I love the retro cassette player and tapes shown on the screen. I have a whole pile of cassettes that look exactly like that!
Before what we call music videos were promotional videos. Beatles were doing them in 65. Their videos for "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields" (both 1967) were flat-out music videos as we know them.
There were actually music videos in the 60s and 70s that were used to promote albums. MTV simply gave record companies a willing and successful place to show their videos easily and in front of an accepting audience.
"Video Killed the Radio Star" was an 80's hit. No, MTV did not kill radio, though they certainly wanted people to THINK they were going to kill radio. But you can't watch MTV when you're driving, and that was a huge part of radio listenership in the last half of the 20th century.
Video Killed the Radio Star was the FIRST music video played on MTV. BTW, Blue Swede is pronounced 'bloo sweed'. They are are a band from Sweden (hence 'sweed', not 'swade")
Björn Skifs is an amazing singer. But never looked for worldwide fame. You can see him in a duet at a royal wedding some 10 or 15 years ago. Search for skifs and Agnes and it'll come up. They sing in English there.
I like the fact that Björn Skifs had this song go No1 on Billboard 100 the same day that ABBA won Eurovision. Then ABBA sang the premiere of Dancing Queen on the eve of King Carl XVI Hustaf's wedding and then Björn Skifs sanf on the future Queen Victoria's wedding. It's connected but at the same time not.
The reaction reviewers are wrong on three accounts. 1)-They spelt the name of the band wrong. 2)-They pronounced the name of the band wrong. 3)-He said probably not a music video, when there is a music video of this song. ~On another point, this is one of the best songs ever written.
literally watching the Guardians of the Galaxy cassette player video version of this; "omg what movie is this from??"... Also it's Blue Swede, not Blue Suede. It's a pun, you see.
Since you liked this song so much. Check out a new acapella version by The Bass Gang and Tim Foust of Home Free. 5 bass members singing this song, the video is also a lot of fun th-cam.com/video/EhVsGnQmxMU/w-d-xo.html
There is a live version of the band singing on TH-cam.

The percussion on this song is so great. Not just the cowbell!

Welcome to my childhood! BTW It's Blue Swede, as in Sweden, since the group was from Sweden.
The singers name is Björn Skifs from Sweden. He did this cover in 1973-74.
I listen to this song a lot.
One of my favorites!!
"Girl you got me thirsty, for another cup of wine." Not quite how they would put it today.😁
Taking me back to childhood with this one ✌️
Also from "Reservoir Dogs"

By the way, David Hasselhoff covered this song and made a very funny, cheerful video to go with it.
'Video Killed The Radio Star' is a great hit from the '70's by The Buggles. Hope you get round to checking it out guys! 🙋♂
Nice!!! Love this!! 😅
Do BJ Thomas the original!!

From 1973. Björn Skifs (front man of Blue Swede) still performs this 50 years later, in 2023: th-cam.com/video/TvmZxMBj-B0/w-d-xo.html

Classic.
The Adventures of TNT: That's not all! If you get the Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling album, every single song is excellent.
Check out BJ Thomas's version & compare. Both are cool, yet different.
Try Huey Lewis " I want a new drug"
Please do numbers on the cars by Riley green
