Thank you this video Matt. I thought my KLR650 had a burned out brake light since the intensity didn’t change when I applied the brakes. I had the same symptoms as you with constant power simultaneously to the brake circuit and the tail lamp circuit. Turns out that when I lowered the brake pedal height when I lowered the foot pegs I didn’t adjust the rear brake switch to compensate. A couple of turns of adjustment and all is right with the world again! Keep up the great work!
Absolutely bloody brilliant mate. Love your approach. Simple without being condescending. First video I’ve seen that explains how to, or more importantly when, to use a multimeter!
Another motorist alerted me that my brake light was not working. Not good!! My bike is custom and I had wired the lights years ago and couldn't figure out what was going wrong. I found this video after I got frustrated! It was the same problem. Thank you!!!
Bloody ripper of a tutorial mate. Helped me to diagnose the same problem on my KTM 500. You should teach at TAFE my friend. You have earned my subscription. Cheers
Thanks for the video, unfortunately mine is the opposite, i pull the break lever and the (single) tail/brake light goes out. I'm just guessing its a bad ground but not really sure :/
my brake lights won’t turn on at all, i put a fender eliminator on and now it won’t turn on, i didn’t even touch any wires to the tail light or brakes so idk why it’s not turning on now
my break light works but not my normal lights, what could be my problem? it worked before i opened it up to take out the broken speedometer sensor. but when i closed it up it didnt.. meaby it only works when dark outside. idk
Always check the easy things first. If the bike headlight is on then the tail light should be on too. If the headlight is on but the tail light is not, then check if the tail light globe filament is broken/blown. You should be able to see if the tiny wire inside the globe is broken. There will be two. One for brakes and one for tail light. If the globe is ok but doesn’t light, then there is a power supply problem to the globe.
Finally! I found the problem and it was the same issue as this clip!!! Thank you 🙏
Thank you!!! You just saved me from tearing into things that didn’t need tearing into. Just had to replace my rear brake switch.

Brilliant video. Have same problem. Now off to see if I can fix it....
My petal break switch was stuck. Something so simple I didn’t think of. Thanks for the thought.
Sometimes the simplest problems are the easiest to overlook!!
