Omkar Dadarkar’s khayal style is receiving growing plaudits across the world. He first learned from his parents, then from a vast range of learned gurus including his aunt Manik Verma, Ram Deshpande, Yashwanthbua Joshi, Ulhas Kashalkar, Girija Devi, and Shrinivas Khale. A period of study as an ITC Sangeet Research Academy scholar further sharpened his vocal control, and his performance career goes from strength to strength, with a growing resume of performances and awards. He blends the analytical with the soulful, bringing traditional khayal to new global audiences each year. Hear more of Omkar here:

Ramkali is an early morning raga. It is often associated with Sikh devotional traditions - many Sikh holy men have composed in it, and one writer described it as follows: “the emotions in Ramkali are like those of a wise teacher disciplining their student. The student is aware of the pain of learning, but is still conscious of the fact that ultimately it is for the best. In this way Ramkali conveys the change from all that we are familiar with, to something we are certain will be better.”
It is similar in form to Raag Bhairav, basing melodies on the swaras SrGmPdNS. But it is sung higher, mainly using madhya and taar saptak [middle and higher octaves]. Also, Re and Dha are not played with as much oscillation as in Bhairav. Re is generally omitted in ascent, tivra [sharp] Ma can be used in descent, and flourishes of komal [flat] Ni are permitted. The vadi and samvadi [king and queen notes] are Pa and Sa respectively. Hear more of Ramkali here:

shit man.....i am 19 years old and not an Indian....but i am very sad to say even most Indians aren't fortunate enough to enjoy the BEST MUSIC in the PLANET...they cant feel the ultimate beauty of it....this is UNIVERSAL MUSIC...this is the ultimate form of MUSIC..i don't understand why others cannot realize this...Even I listen to most songs by western artists, but this, INDIAN classical music is incomparable. Just take the aalap sung by Omkar Dadarkar. I mean how soulful is this. This directly stabs into the heart of the listener. There's nothing artificial in this. It's completely natural unlike most music today which are beautified by electronic means.
I agreed. I think it is as perfect as one can get in music.

Good performance but why do classical performances have to be labelled like relaxing. Is it some massage therapy? Would appreciate if such labelling is not done

seriously man... i too really dont like the term "relaxing"..it does bring relaxation....but what should be emphasized is the beauty of the music... see the way the VOCALIST controls his voice...its really amazing..and still the singers who have COMPUTER generated voices,RAPPERS are famous in the planet..
Relaxing it's really very relaxing for me and thos people who love and learning classical it's not a therapy it's a mental relaxation
The labeling is for western audience not for pure listeners. So do not get caught in verbiage. some one else uttered a dirty word. let them eat it.
