- Dicey Dungeons Part 7 - first look at later episodes! I thought I'd start with the robot's episode two, as it's the first character I massively enjoyed. Don't roll duplicate dice, or they'll vanish into thin air!

I've been thinking that this game hands out healing a bit too freely. But seeing how hard this game is starting to get already, I think it'll be pretty necessary down the line.
It's not that healing is too available, but that damage is too avalible
Trust someone who 100%ed this game. By the time you get to the harder rounds, you start complaining that there isn't ENOUGH healing.

21:35 this game is actually a rare exception, there is absolutely no weight on the dice rolls, it's always a flat 1/6 chance. which i find surprising given how much potential there is for rng screw and how often you roll the dice, but i respect the decision to commit to true probability
I think that's good, other games mitigate dice rng by either weighting the dice, or simply minimizing the impact of the dice roll, both aren't really good for a dice-centric game (feels cheap if you weight it, feels moot if you minimize impact). This game gives you enough options to turn it into a strategy game of being prepared with any number and calculating risks.
@@funAlwayzTheGamer Some indirectly "weight" the dice by not actually using dice, and instead using a dice-deck instead, too.
actually that's not entirely true. obviously there are situations where it makes it clear that the dice are fixed, but less obviously when you fight jester as a human, his dice are always manipulated to give him better rolls. (This is true of the final boss of the last episode as well, but that's more obvious.)
I think it especially makes sense for a game like this, because there's no simple way for the game to know which roll is the best in any given situation, since you could be wanting low rolls for certain builds. I like it a lot.
If you want suggestions on episodes to look out for: Thief 2 and 3 are quite fun and different. Warrior 2 is surprisingly interesting, and warrior 3 is just hard. Inventor 2 and 3 are both fun if you enjoy inventor and want to learn the mechanics and planning, otherwise they are just annoying. Jester 2 sucks, but it is worth it to get to the later jester episodes. Jester 3 is fun but REALLY difficult.
Also episode 5 is the best episode across the board for a first playthrough, but the least fun to replay.

Jester 2 is hilarious if just for the cheap joke - "what if jester, but... not jester!"

Episode 6 is the inverse of episode 5, it's not all that interesting to play on the first playthrough, (but for me at) least has the game's maximum replay value
Spatula + Heatsink is actually incredible right when you got Heatsink. Heatsink by itself basically refunds you the CPU used to roll that dice, but if you use Spatula to flip a 1 into a 6 and then Heatsink that, you effectively get the same +5 CPU that Heatsink+ can get you with a 2.
Spatula also always flips odds into evens and vice versa, making Nudge obsolete for activating Mechanical Arm. So with all that, upgrading Spatula for 3 uses would have been the best way to improve your deck with the last upgrade.
if you have a moment, you should check out the (official-ish, made by the devs) halloween mod for the game, it has like 3 runs in it, all of which are radically different from the main game. for instance the version of the witch is actually a puzzle run, where you have to defeat the enemy in a single turn.
i think it's better to do the main campaign first

Fun fact, you can actually use Autoroll even after you already errored! Doesn't give you any extra dice but if you need the jackpot to guarantee a kill it's always better to try by rolling first before autorolling, because you can still save it after
So the thing about spatula is that you can use it to turn odds into evens and evens into odds, which was what you were using nudge for, so upgrading spatula to get 3 uses per turn meant you could drop nudge for something better like chocolate cookie or heat sink.

There's a secret final boss if you clear all challanges so I'd super hyped to see you do that. This series is great!
There's a warrior challenge that actually changes how the entire game works, and one where you take control of the monster you just defeated

You make this game look so simple, yet last night I caved in and bought it and lost my first two runs ! I blame boomerang for baiting me...
I did strive as robot and inventor though.
But wow this game is actually difficult if you don't think through all your actions. It isn't like slay the spire where there are so many turns that if you mess up a couple times/make the wrong choice, you can recover. This game punishes poor play pretty heavily when allowing the enemy just one more attack from missing lethal could be 1/4th of your HP gone. Makes sense that there are so many ways to heal because taking damage is just inevitable.
Also, not sure if people discovered it yet, but stacking fury causes you to do an action 3 times, instead of your next two actions twice.
I like the episodes a lot because some are just more difficult versions of the regular chatacter(like the 2nd robot) and some are basically entirely new character, which is why I compared them to tainted characters
gotta be my favorite series in quite a while, it's great to see you enjoying the game and I hope that you at least attempt all the episodes with one character before moving on!

24:05 I think that spatula and heat sink is always better, cause when you get 1 you can reduce your cpu by 6 each time
I know of another game that used a blackjack mechanic, it’s Void Tyrant, which is also a rougelike iirc, how it would use it is, if you have more power you would attack your enemy for the difference, but if you bust, your power gets set to 0, it really stressed me out at times, also there’s another special feature for if you get exactly the max you can roll
unfortunately, void tyrant is a mobile game, so that skews the chances of Tyler wanting to play it

I feel like you can judge something like short circuit on its upgrade potential though. Some cards are just good when upgraded and I like to keep them in my backpack until I can upgrade them. Like short circuit!
21:40 i think there might be the factor in there of higher values being more likely to cause a bust, but since there is often 1-3 left you expect a lower value, and if you then bust with a higher than expected value... it's a higher than expected value!

There's a witch challenge that basically turns the game into a puzzle game which would be entertaining to watch you try.
i for one love the parallel universe challenges, in which the rules of the entire game are temporarily changed
Now, I have absolutely ZERO ways of confirming this, BUT I feel pretty confident in the assertion that when Tyler said “33.333 - repeating, of course” it was his brain sliding into a Leroy Jenkins reference - one I also make whenever I encounter a repeating decimal.
I gotta say, my favorite build in this game is the biggest DPS no matter the cost- like one time I had a build that had 2 Boomerangs one being Boomerang+ and had a flamethrower+ as well, so you bet everything was GONE

The reason ultima weapon competes with buster sword is that you have some control over when to get jackpot. Autoroll is a guaranteed jackpot and there also cards that increase your jackpot chance
I would watch every single piece of content this game has to offer if you posted it. I know you don't enjoy all the characters equally but just saying. It was so frustrating watching NL play this and your videos are like crack compared to that
NL does math with his gut. Watching him fumble with anything logic related was too much for my heart.
Pleasantly surprised to see the difficulty increases are different for each character!
to be fair, at least 2 difficulty stages are shared (one makes all enemy equipment upgrade, the other changes the way every card and status effect works), but it feels different for every character. difficulty is done very well in this game (though it becomes real brutal real fast)
Using Limit Break on the first enemy was indeed the correct decision at that point, as the second enemy is very unlikely to do 19 damage to kill you but will most likely get you your limit break again or at least very close. The alternative would've been to start fight 2 with Limit Break which would've killed the enemy fast enough not to get you back to limit break, meaning you'd be a lot worse off in the first fight of floor 2. The free full heals on level up are interesting to plan around!
Halloween Mod was recommended, but there are a few other user mods. Last I played them I wasn't that impressed (and there are of course the crashes), but there's a bunch of cool fan item mods out there!

Oh please oh PLEASE tell me you'll play enough of the game to get to the final episode! You don't need to do *EVERY* chapter in order to do so, just certain ones; so if you don't like a character or an episode you can just skip over it. I *absolutely* think that the final episode is worth it, particularly from a gameplay perspective.
Love ultima weapon personally. I think buster sword is definitely better on the vanish challenge though.
But with the cards that make you have better odds at jackpot, the better chance of 5 damage and double on jackpot make it a lot more worth
Love the games you play. Its some stuff I can play after work for a little while and then do whatever I need to do after.

This is my first time seeing Bounty Hunter in action and not just as a rule! This and drain Monster I’m pretty sure, were added in early but I never got the chance to see them in game. Pretty cool mechanic if you ask me and Super awesome character model
If mechanical arm is the last left, use one more roll to maximize damage, might as well if you don't need to heal
I feel like buster sword is almost always the better of the two options. There could be a build where you increase your cpu and expand your jackpot range the other one might be better but in every other situation buster sword is better
I guess the other one might also be better if you have a build that focuses on self damage and healing/shields because you would get more uses of autoroll
Ultima Sword isn't the worst on its own, especially on harder difficulties where the enemies deal enough damage to make Autoroll live with reasonable consistency. At worst, it's just another 1 slot sword.

Fyi, you can limit break after busting. You wont get dice, but you get the power

Short Circuit + is also nice for 1's because you get a status.

You should try out relicta. It's a fun physics based puzzle game. Story isn't that interesting but the puzzles are hard and fun to figure out.

I suggest trying Dicey Elementalist , its a mobile game that based around deck building and dice, with multiple unique characters and challenges, very fun
