I don't see anybody talking about it, but I just wanna point out how wild the Bulgarian numbers are in 1912, you can see Bulgaria briefly jump to the 3rd spot in the world because of the 1st balkan war, when about 600k soldiers were raised. Now that doesn't sound too staggering until you realize that the entire population of the country at the time was about 4.3 mil. So in % that's about 13% of the population going to war, lol. To put that into nowadays perspective, Ukraine has a population of over 43 million with active personnel of about 700k. Then during WW1 Bulgaria raised about 800k soldiers as well. x)

The Republican Coup that took place in 1889 in Brazil took the country off the path to becoming a major world power. It is no surprise that after the imperial period, Brazil never recovered, remaining just a large territory and economy, without major social and technological advances, also because of successive populist governments, notably those on the left from the 1980s onwards. Brazil has everything it takes to be the greatest world power, this is just being postponed.

The amazing thing about this clip is, that at no time, not once during it did the UK ever get close to been the top national army. But basically for two thirds to three quarters of this entire time frame, 1815 to 2023 it was the most powerful hegemony on the planet. Easily and often destroying those armies listed at or near the top, Russian Empire 1855 and Qing Empire 1865 for example. They basically smashed any army that opposed them for a century and half, no fuss, no matter how big they were. They would often take on a whole nation with a tiny force and do the business, the punitive expedition to Abyssinia by Lord Napier who defeated Emperor Theodore is a good example. A small force of fifteen thousand, marched overland through tropical country and full of hostile tribes. Smashed the Emperors mountain top fortress strong hole of Magdala, freed the hostages and then marched back out again with the loss of very few men, all the time against overwhelming numbers.

@@WatchmansArchive That is the point I was trying to make, it was not the largest army by any means, but it was certainly the most powerful army for most of that time. As they say its not who has the most, its who can get there with the most, and the best that wins.

@@dolphingoreeaccount7395 You mean you Americas like to think you kicked their behinds, the War of Independence was a side show for Britain and they were busy with real enemies at the time, plus there was also a lot of sympathy for the colonists in the British parliament at the time. The War of independence was also much earlier than the stated dates of 1815 to 2023 in this video. Now the war of 1812 is closer to the date discussed, and in 1812 the British Army marched to Washington and burnt out the White House, so it had to be painted white to hide the scorch marks and its still white to this day, that while they were also busy flogging Napolean as well. The bottom line is at anytime from 1760 until 1900 Britain could have if they really wanted to could have dealt the USA a death blow, but they were never of a mind to. Even in the American Civil War if Britain had supported the South, well goodnight Irene to United States of America, the fact that the south were slave states ensured that support was never forthcoming. I have read that Palmerston would have recognised the South if they had won Gettysburg, if he had then the South would have been independent till this day no doubt.

Size means nothing you can have millions of troops and go against a small military and get completely demolished it's all about training, weapons and having a heart to not give up when outnumbered that's how you win a war.
