Fuck this is just days before Roger Patterson died
Atheist is definitely one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated bands of the early nineties. 'Elements' is an awesome CD/Album. Highly Recommended!!
Damn these guys are playing their balls off, 110% energy, shame to hear they got such a negative crowd response. Reading up on their early tours this usually was the norm sadly. They said the fan response was actually better when they opened for Candlemass than Cannibal Corpse. A LOT of people weren’t ready in 1990/91 for something this off the course from what was the norm even in a genre this far to the extreme (Death Metal/Grind). But despite all the tempo changes & many multiple arrangements within the song structure Athiest was still super heavy and lightning fast
I prefer this over the studio version, which is also great but,...nothing beats their demos. Fuking epic drum and bass sound, you can really hear that in this footage.
I remember a "saying/motto" from when I was super young... that "the music you end up loving the most and taking with you for longer in life, is the music you are skeptical of at first', and it's true! Prong, atheist, coroner, godflesh (especially when they dove into the "pure" years and beyond), maybe even as far as stuff like Mr Bungle etc etc etc... So many examples of music ya say a bit wierded out by for a bit, end up growing on you in a way that I much more lasting.
@@theesweetscience2084 Dude! Of the bands you named there 3 are in my top 10 all time favorites and Godflesh & Atheist top 5! Love Prong as well, Coroner I’ve never really gave a chance but now that you mentioned them with the other bands I love I’ll give em a fresh listen. 👍Cheers
@@theesweetscience2084 Mr Bungle as well. In no order my top 10 Metal (all genres of metal) bands would be Death, Atheist, Sabbath, Godflesh, Mr Bungle/Faith No More, Carcass, Sepultura, Celtic Frost, Prong and Morbid Angel
It takes a minute to get familiar with it too, repeated album listens let's your really notice more of what is actually happening 😂
R.I.P Roger Patterson
This show was just 3 days before his death...what a sick player he was and had such a cool, unique stage presence. Always seemed to have on either a Napalm Death T shirt, Entombed Left Hand Path shirt or a shameless promotion Athiest shirt. Also the faces he made and how raw his fingers must have been from thrashing that bass so hard
Forever and ever
@@rustykuntz94 wowwww I did not REALIZE that 🤯😟. That's berserk. I really appreciate that info. I want to look more into that stuff. It sucked to learn of his passing.
@@theesweetscience2084 Yea it’s crazy man, this was the last night of their tour & were in California here. Being a young band not having a lot of dough they had a rented van they had to drive all the way back to Florida in and 3 days later on 2/12/91 sleep deprived I think it was one of the roadies w them drove off the road or swerved and crashed and Roger died just like that. He not only was such a awesome bass player and had great crazy stage presence he was one of the main writers of the Bands music. Tragic loss as he was going to be a Legend. Still pretty much is with so little on his resume.
If you never heard it check out the Unquestionable Presence demos from 1990 they recorded with Roger on bass. The songs are pretty much complete and hearing him actually play on these tunes is amazing!
I was there! Good times at The Waters!
Awesome! Do you remember what the crowd was like? I've heard so much about how Atheist and Cynic had such a hard time in the early 90s due to their sound being ahead of its time, but I was born in the mid 90s so I can't really imagine it myself
RIP Roger Patterson,and Cliff Burton!!!!!!!
Crazy to think that Roger Patterson would die 3 days after this gig.... RIP
Technical AF and still playing with super energy for the stage! Siiick
We need to remaster this, video and sound. Preserve the history!!
this is legendary, awesome live performance
Legends
Left handed supremacy
I like the sneaky "spy" riff on the chorus of unquestionable presence 😎
So good
Через 3 дня погибнет Роджер Паттерсон. Но он об этом ещё не знает.
Had no idea Kelly played solos.
This makes me like the band even more and think they could've reached greater fame with bands such as Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Autopsy.
it's honestly a mystery as to why they never released this officially. given its the last show Roger played at you'd think they'd give it as a tribute or something
Hellz yea and its got a great live sound here, they wouldn't even have to fuck with the Mix (I'm sure the label would as they always have to tinker with the sound...talking about the record label, not Atheist).
This show came with the Unquestionable Presence CD + DVD set, I bought it about a year ago, but it may be out of print now. I wish there was more footage with Roger in general, the guy was a monster player and wrote alot of the songs too! Theres a band interview on the Piece of Time CD + DVD where Roger talks a bit along with a band rehearsal and a few shows too I think.
An awesome band with great integrity. Maybe, if they didn't have Atheist as their band name, they would be getting more reconnection
Back then yeah...
Idk man if Cannibal Corpse is the biggest death metal band I think Atheist could have done fine with their name lol
Wowzer. Fuckin killer!
at first i thought roger was wearing a Nirvana shirt... then half way through I thought he was wearing a Napalm Death shirt
I mean there is some nice bass in Nirvana tbf haha
It’s Napalm Death for sure. Roger RIP. Gone way way too soon. Man Him and Atheist were years/decades ahead of their time.
@@VimFuego yeah dude, one of my top influences from 2003 onward. I was so thankful when live footage started to appear with him.. I thought I would never see it
