Man, this song is fantastic. Like a demented Mystic Eyes then a great sing-a-long that is beautiful. Still ahead of it's time! R.I.P. Gerry. You are the loved one!
This was the era when Oz music crawled out of the swamp and proudly declared that no longer were we going to play second fiddle to mother England or the grand US of A. And Gerry, an ex-Welshman, was one of the best. I was just a kid in Primary School, but when Gerry screamed: "I can't go on!" the Loved Ones expressed the despair of a generation. Thanks Gerry. I loved you so.
Brian Heard ... and the saddest and most shamefully comemorative thing about that date is that it marks an invasion of a nation, the genocide, and irradication of some 615 tribes, languages, cultures, and bloody murderous death of 11 million PEOPLE ...
We went to the Loved Ones live Gigs all over Melbourne in 1966 and loved every song, they were brilliant. We saw them perform at a small venue in Prahran called The Garrison, they covered an old Blues song called 'Spoonful of Diamonds'. Does anyone know if this was recorded way back when?, perhaps a Bootleg??
@tjr19513 Wow! The VRI hall! That was "The Tavern"! No booze of course, we all had our one or two cans before going in. We were 15. Ah, memories...my first pash/kiss ever in my life during a break while the tape played the Rolling Stones' "Mona". And other stories. The Tavern. Thank you for mentioning it.
That's correct regarding surname. His first name was actually Brian. (More than a loved one : the musical career of Gerry Humphrys / by Richard Miles).
h6yt88gg ... uh huh... and if I'm mistaken, you're welcome to chime in and correct me; but, I damm doo diddelly oo doo dunn recall Gerry rushin onto the stage at the 1970-71 or was it 72 ?... Sunbury Pop Festival and yellin - tellin everyone to drop all of their shit, NOW, so's the indercover narks couldn't bust you for being high, back then...
poor gerri he should have been around forever, he was not as good here eh as his earlier and very inovative clips, an unknown oz legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original of this hit song of the 60s was decades ahead of its time in Australia, and remains one of the greatest rock songs from this country.
I was there that night in Melbourne...invited myself backstage after the show and had a few drinks. Memorable night.
One of the best bands in Australia in the 60s. Only together for about 18 months but what songs and "Magic Box" an absolute classic album.
Still one of the best Aussie songs ever!

THE GREATEST AUSSIE song of ALL TIME.
Thanks for re-posting this video. There are too few clips of Gerry & the Loved Ones.
This is one crazy song!! Intro is drums in 2/4 juxtaposed with the chords in 9/8, then changes to 3/8 for the verse, next the chorus in 6/8! Crazy!!!!

I am in that crowd somewhere and went backstage after and had a couple of beers with the boys. Great memories.
