  • Avoid the common mistake of installing an exterior light directly on top of vinyl siding.
    Installing a vinyl mounting block on new construction. I’ll complete it with installing the exterior light on the mounting block.

    But what about retrofitting a mounting block for a junction box (for a porch light) already in place on vinyl siding??

      If it were mine I would take off a few PCs of siding and install the block then reinstall the siding

    It took me about 7 or 8 videos before I found someone actually doing this to code and using an octagon box. Good grief.
    This video is so helpful. We had vinyl siding guys do our house, and now our light fixtures are wobbly. When I remove a fixture, they never cut out the center of the vinyl box... the octagon box is hidden beneath and too deep. Now I know what the structure of the vinyl box is so I can pop it out, cut a hole, and hopefully adjust the octagon.

    Most homeowners will be installing after the house is sided, if it’s an older home that the siding is more brittle disturbing it less is probably best…would like to see a video focusing on that. Good video though!

    Wow, just what I needed to see. I'm installing lights on my garage and you showed exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! Liked and Subscribed.

    Is it code to mount the box on top of the sheathing? I thought the box is supposed to be recessed inside the wall?

    Perfect video, not too long or too short. Straight to the point and it all looks legit (proper junction box). Alot of you tubers giving inaccurate direction to DIYers. I certainly don't know everything and rely on people like you. I've watched 10 videos on this as everyone does it a bit different but this was the most correct IMO based on my newly gain knowledge. Good job.

    I would tape the top of the box. Nice vid though.

      @@bryangonzalez29 This is also my suspicion, even most country farmboys and cowboys don't have that ability to work (in terms of stamina) and don't have that kind of know-how these days. The video where he puts on that roof single handed in only a short matter of time, even a professional roofer wouldn't have the ability or the wherewithall to do that.

      You can also take some siding off to match it. Find a building supply that sells your brand, and buy it there. My blocks are all clay colored for example.

    You can’t install the light fixture until after the vinyl siding has been put up.

    • @KelikakuCoutin
      @KelikakuCoutin ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, after he installed it, there was no bulb in it; but at the end of the video, even though he didn't install any bulb, there mysteriously was a bulb inside of the fixture. I just had to re-watch it to make sure. Very many millenials do not know how to install a light bulb, yet in the video it's not shown how the light bulb was screwed into the socket.
      The fixture will not work without a light bulb. There will be no light.

      Why?

    • @KelikakuCoutin
      @KelikakuCoutin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasvarney723 Because of Bidenomics. If you install the lights, then cover it with the siding, when the light turns on, it will illuminate the inside of the wall instead of the outside. This was proven during the disasterous withdrawal of Afghanistan.

      Huh? There's literally no reason you can't install the light first if you're using a mounting J-block like this. The siding goes around the mounting block.

    • @thomasvarney723
      @thomasvarney723 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But really, what makes you say that? I had an electrician tell me he also wanted siding up before installing light boxes.

    the fake concern with level is amusing. one has to eyeball it as we have innate sense of level. amateurs do these fake details
