Review of Honeywell Air Genius 5 Air Purifier

We already use a different model of Honeywell air purifier which has been in daily use since March 2017. One family member has a mild fur allergy which isn't ideal in a home with a free-range house-rabbit in perpetual moult but, within about 4 days of using the Honeywell air purifier, nearly all allergy symptoms greatly improved, particularly the itchy, runny eyes which completely subsided. This year, during the summer 2018 heatwave, it became an absolute godsend when, without it, the air in our home felt horribly muggy and unbearably stagnant. Throughout, we kept it running quietly in the bedroom and the difference was immediately noticeable. We were a little dubious re whether an air purifier was an extravagance but it has certainly proven its worth and we wouldn't be without it.
We are now running this aptly named 'Air Genius 5' model mostly in our bedroom where, like its predecessor, it's left to run quietly on the lowest setting (of five) and is hardly noticed - although its effects are because it's almost twice as powerful. The air feels clean, crisp and fresh - rather like a bright, clear, spring or frosty morning in the countryside and it lifts the stuffiness out of a room. It has a powerful 'clean air delivery rate' of 273m3/h, and the oscillating feature ensures cleaner, fresher air is gently dispersed around the room. It stands 67cm tall with a 23x23cm footprint so is discreet and the running noise is low - a just like a quiet fan running in the background and a lot quieter than a typical oscillating fan. It is lightweight with a carrying grip recess to the rear so can be moved from room to room, up or downstairs as required eg kitchen, lounge then bedroom where it can be run overnight on the almost silent 'sleep' setting. My husband, who has blocked sinuses, woke with a much clearer and less stuffy head after leaving it running overnight and the low fan on the sleep setting is barely noticeable so unlikely to keep even the lightest sleeper awake. The higher settings are noisier and the top setting, 5 Max for power cleaning or fast odour reduction, is more distracting in a quiet room so we leave it running for 30 minutes or so while the room is vacant then turn it down to settings 1-3 while in the room. It is recommended that the purifier is used continuously and power consumption is 58W on its highest setting.
Unlike all other air purifiers we have used including our previous Honeywell HPA100WE, this has a reusable washable 'Quietclean ifD' filter avoiding the (often exorbitant) expense of replacing a charcoal filter every few months. With this machine, the main filter is simply rinsed under the tap quarterly and re-used which makes it much more economic to run and, therefore it is used more - and a lamp illuminates on the control panel to indicate when cleaning is required. An additional odour-reducing pre-filter is also included which, if used, is recommended to be replaced every 3 months. However, we haven't used this and are more than happy with its performance when using the just the washable filter.
Design is modern and attractive with a tall, slim, sleek build, a blue LED control panel on the top and adjustable blue LED lights at the foot which can be dimmed or turned off so it doesn't illuminate a bedroom overnight. Build quality is good and it looks as though it is built to last and includes a reassuring 3 year manufacturer warranty.

We have two Honeywell air purifiers… Not sure if it’s the same model probably not. They are a year old one of them… The access door pops open easily. The newer model it seems impossible to open the door. Any suggestions, Honeywell?

Just run it under a tap. It's washable - see product description above, ie : "the main filter is simply rinsed under the tap quarterly and re-used"

@@andylewis1990 if u put it on night time mode it’s pretty quiet we fall asleep with it on so wouldn’t say it’s loud it also depends where u put it in the room if u want full on cool air leave plenty of space around it we love ours move it from the room to the bedroom at night time
