Guys my Dad was from Hunter hill in Paisley Scotland and was a friend of GR throughout school, obviously he followed his career when GR formed Stealers Wheels and all his solo career in the states, R I P GR. Every time one of his songs would be on the radio (mostly Baker Street) my old boy would say " I went to school with him " it used to drive me mad lol .
Yes, Baker Street in late '78 was a great song with that saxophone, and still is a great song. Then I found Right Down the Line, and then this song, and still love all three of them. They never get old.
This is what a music video SHOULD be - the artist creating the song. Nothing fancy. No multimillion dollar movie production. Just the song and those involved in making at at the factory. God forbid someone like Bouncy and ZJ so a simple and to the point production like this...
I can't believe I was 17,when this song came out, bought the album, those were the best years of my life,70s and 80's, I feel like I live in a different world now..
What a fabulous voice Gerry had I must admit I didn’t appreciate him or his band mates at the time ,the old saying “ you don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s gone” is so true. Superb footage everything in it is just perfect and just look at the smiles on their faces a great moment set in time……..
..and the poor man drank himself to death, passing away ten years ago in 2012. I was working in Kuwait when I heard the news. Such a crying shame. There was a documentary about him posted here on TH-cam, and there was a wonderful tribute show in his honor with his family and friends participating, singing "Family Tree". Chills. It may still be here. His former bandmate Billy Connolly was part of it too.
Get it Right Next Time seems to be more of a group performance than Baker Street (the sax, the electric guitar break and the vocals). Baker Street is a more melancholy song too. It is a pity this isn't played more often, not only because it's a great song and arrangement but also to show there's more to Gerry Rafferty than Baker Street.
I’ve loved Gerry Rafferty for many years.. listening to his beautiful voice, his extraordinary talent in playing every instrument and recording/producing his own albums when he started out… how can one help but admire him for his determination and his mastery of music. Yessss
@@julieraymond482 quite agree, all this nonsense ha ha good quote. But its a different world to the one we grew up in. Being a kid in the 70s and teenager in the 80s with great music, this track being a fine example. Probably why i still live in the past ha ha.
This is a man who was drunk most of his life and still produced absolute genius, Gerry as a musician you got it right every time
He died from alcoholism but omfg what a genius of melody and sentiment
Just like Warren Zevon.
yeah, his drinking was one the many demons he was dealing with. there been stories the man was was not a fan of being famous. he hated fame.
Chris Story; Warren Zevon died of cancer. And was a notorious drunkard.
@@TheWalterKurtz well, I don't think his contribute to hos cancer but may have weaken his kidneys and other organs over time.
No use complaining don’t you worry don’t you whine if you get it wrong you’ll get it right next time !
'COS if you get it wrong, you'll get it right next time.
So true,
Such is life
Gerry was a huge part of the great music of the 70s.
RIP GERRY 🙏
Gerry never made a bad record another genius sadly missed
Spot on John . Excellent stuff !!!! 💖
Gerry is one of the greatest singer, songwriters that put his life in words. What a wonderful Gentleman.
Nothing else to say Donald very very sadly missed 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
He was a true music craftsman.
In 1995 I woke up to the ending of this song on my alarm in college. Immediately loved it and luckily the DJ came on saying who it was after the song ended. Jumped out of my top bunk and grabbed a pen and paper to write Rafferty. Later that day I drove to the mall and bought his greatest hits CD. Here I am about 30 years later!!
I was fortunate to see Gerry live in 1993.
They don’t make songs with a groove like this anymore
i like when people post these "who's listening in 2020?" my posting is who has never stop listening from 1979 to 2021 and beyond?
@@_Rhort Ha Ha - you're the man
Hear hear ! Classic as always !
Amen, so sick of that lame 'who's still listening in 2020' comment on hit records! Good music doesn't date - we will still be listening to it 500 years from now. If a deadly pandemic doesn't wipe us all out!
Since i was a young kid never stopped listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the smoothest bass lines you'll ever hear
I always crank up the volume when this song starts...
Mo Foster.
Me too! How can you not turn the volume up, it's GORGEOUS!
@@muppetrowlf1473 Thanks, I was wondering.
Recorded at the legendary “Chipping Norton Studio’s in the south of the UK which is now a dentist clinic but Gerry was a legend and a Scotsman like myself so what’s not to like a fantastic recording from a legendary Scottish artist. RIP Gerry we love you mate.
Gerry was indeed a unique brilliant talent. Brings me down. But matters not his nationality, he was a total peoples person with issues like the rest of us RIP ❤️
I lived in Chipping Norton around the time this album was recorded...had a tour around the studio too...awesome to see where it all happened!
one of the greatest under rated artists of all time sad he is gone but the music lives on forever
Well said well bloody said for real
Perfection comes very rarely, and this is one of those rare occasions when everything falls into place to produce a work of art that only Jerry Rafferty can accomplish. Sadly Misses.
I love seeing them all playing together. Creating a master piece.
Chezeex Days gone down is a great vid too
Jerry Rafferty night who's up for it.🕺✌️✌️✌️☺️
Lucky to grow up in the 60's & 70's with the greatest music ever recorded... (64 in a month) Thank you Gerry... RIP Brother..
Well said well bloody said for real
This is a great song that never got the radio play it deserved. This is as good a song as "Baker Street" and "Right Down The Line".
Better than both of them.
I never heard "Get It Right Next Time" on the radio.
@@RonaldCharlesEpstein that's why it's such an underrated record.
FAD III better by far
Criminal when you listen to this rubbish now . Proper musicians and lyrics
What a song...what a man...what a loss...nowadays these so called pop stars profess to be talented..just listen to this song and judge just class...RIP
.
Just loved this talented man. Every time he opened his mouth, this liquid silk poured out. What a gift that we lost too soon.
Yeah, his voice is one of the greatest of all time. Like you say, a sort of beautiful silk. Don't hear that anymore.
Exactement !!! ... BRAVO ROGER !!!! ... Get it Right every body !!! ...next Time is the Right Time !!! ... Space Peace and Love !!! ... aMiTiés d'arTs de Beb ... artiste . fr
Ummm...he died at the age of 63.
So true
@@MovieMuscle Scottish man braveheart
Take note all so called pop stars, you do not need electronic trickery, just a bunch of very good musicians backing a guy with a unique hypnotic voice who will be listened to long after most of todays "stars" have been forgotten
Oh do hush - that argument is so stale and lame.
Let's face it, this man was a genius.
Beyond. It’s painful how brilliant he was musically.
Is it rock, is it blues, is it jazz... no it's Jerry Rafferty! What a blend, what a brillant music man. It truly breaks my heart that he lost his battle.
Drugs and booze have robbed the world of so much unfulfilled genius.
@@phildavenport4150 Amen Phil! Didn't know what we really had until he was gone. Such a talent!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love his songs still listening I am now 85years young such a pity he sent to early
John Bowe just Effortless 🤷🏻♀️.. beat that ..❤️
Enjoy the mellow sounds John.
Check out 'Baker's Street" Prepare yourself for the Saxophone 🎷 You'll never be the same..Guaranteed! 😎
@@maryhuhnke8496 absolutely amazing music so missed rip gerry thanks for the music
Wow, almost 84 here!
I get it, it isn't everyone who could claim they went to school with a musical genius.
Haha that's a nice story to have 👍
@@Colm-c2y thanks man.
I love how the song builds with just the instruments then Gerry starts singing and it’s perfect 👌 harmony 👌
Harmony is the perfect word Michael!
My thoughts exactly 👌
Spot on sir
I always loved baker street as a kid growing up . In my middle 40s I realize it's done by a musical genius . This is true musical genius. Rip Gerry
Yes, Baker Street in late '78 was a great song with that saxophone, and still is a great song. Then I found Right Down the Line, and then this song, and still love all three of them. They never get old.
Baker Street is a great song, but it's a shame that it seems to be the 'go to' Gerry song for a lot of radio stations.
One of the greatest singer songwriters this group of islands has ever produced. The man was a genius
Gerry Rafferty understands the complexity of life and has the musical talent to make it come alive for everyone who wants to hear him
yes
One of my favourite songs from Gerry...that intro is like liquid velvet!!!
This is what a music video SHOULD be - the artist creating the song. Nothing fancy. No multimillion dollar movie production. Just the song and those involved in making at at the factory. God forbid someone like Bouncy and ZJ so a simple and to the point production like this...
‘ You’ve gotta die a little everyday to try and stay awake’. Gerry was a poet, amongst the best songwriters of the 20thC.
Whole band is so relaxed, true masters
Well said well bloody said for real
This is great music 100 years from now it will still sound good.
I'll be 157 still listening to this song .But did u know that Billy Connelly and Gerry played together in one of their 1st bands together
@@ianjordan5532
The humble bums.
This guy had it all voice talent songwriter his music was just Brilliant RIP
Joe Egan on bass guitar, always smiling and lifelong friend of Gerry. Why can’t we get music like this nowadays, simple but beautiful. RIP Gerry.
Thought that was Joe.
Because no young people have any experience of anything anymore apart from plastic phones churning out shite
not joe egan
Isn't that Mo Foster?
Definitely Mo Foster on bass.
He just broke my heart ! I wonder if he didn't know how much he was loved !
His talent was from another planet
This song and Baker Street evoke so many feelings and memories of the 1970's....fantastic.
Rafferty was beyond excellence
....there will never be a "next time"🥰
Listening this 37 years later it's still powerful.
Our youth never really goes away, Robert. I'm still lost in that era and am quite happy with it.
Only the body gets old!
Music of this outstanding quality can only improve with age ,and the memories that accompany it also.!
Robert Bailie Gerry was in a zone unlike anything music has ever seen for a few years there. He couldn’t lose
Yeah. I agree and noticed the smiles too. A truly great wrap.
Certainly a lot better than the crud out there today. No doubt.
@DP Tree Sculptures. Agree on his voice. I was actually reminded of Supertramps Rick Davies voice
Man, this is sooo smooth. This is like the greatest jam session ever. What I wouldn’t have done to be in that studio with them!
absolutely --- soooo smooooth !!!
Genius. You got it right this time Gerry.
Every so often a super genius comes along and Gerry Rafferty was one such genius Sadly missed.R.I.P. Gerry.
Well said Peter..
I like this one even more than "Baker Street". Thanks so much for posting.
Pity they don't play this more often.
Me too this is the coolest song ever wrote 🎶
I’ve loved Gerry Rafferty for many years.. listening to his beautiful voice, his extraordinary talent in playing every instrument and recording/producing his own albums when he started out… how can one help but admire him for his determination and his mastery of music. Gerry’s songs have helped me through very dark periods of time in my life and I still to this day, and always will, listen to the greatest song writer and musical legend, Gerry Rafferty ♥️
'Get it right next time'. This would make a very good motto for my life!
RIP Gerry 🧡💚💛🧡
