What would you recommend more, getting the Duo-Temp Pro and getting the dose control pro grinder or just putting a little more money and getting the barista express?
How long should I generally let it pour out the shot for? I’ve noticed it is coming out very weak when I do it but I don’t want to leave it too long to the point where it’s just water coming out. It’s very frustrating.
I've got the Infuser and they're very similar. The big difference is that the Infuser has programmable shot volume, so you just press the button to start and it stops on its own rather than you timing and stopping it yourself every time. The Infuser also has the pressure gauge that tells you if you've got the right amount of pressure - I really like that. I don't think this one has the three-way solenoid valve for a dry puck either.
I have the standard duo temp and love it.... It's my first "real" espresso machine (from a 5 bar bialetti thing) I've only pulled 10 or so shots but it wasn't too expensive for my budget and will let me get experience with a better machine... I'm getting lots of people saying I shouldn't have gone with that much on the machine leaving only $35 to my grinder (a basic secura burr grinder) but I'll probably upgrade grinders around Christmas or so if I keep using it like I think I will.

Can I confirm the coffee pour is completely manual? No auto dose for the shots? My machine just died and this might be an appropriate replacement at a much better price than my old machine.
I see Gail steams the milk first then does the coffee-do you have to do it this way or can you pull the coffee first then steam the milk? I have noticed the machine purges after milk steaming then onto the coffee.
I think it's the approach barista tend to follow, the volume of espresso is so small that it cools down quickly in a cup, they don't want it too cool significantly and then be reheated with the hot milk as I imagine that impacts its flavour (as might be expected to happen if they did the reversed order) But I don't think it should be purging into the group rather than the tray, maybe descale to ensure the solanoids aren't blocked if you haven't done that in a while? I'm trying to recall how my old Breville's used to handle this... I think they did.

Thanks for the video! I had my duo temp pro for 4 yrs already and it served me very well! Just order bambino online and I hope the new machine could do the same or better job than my duo temp pro.
The water flow from the brew head seems to be dripping at one side and more fluent on the other. Is that a normal thing at all? Also, while in " locked " are the little "chanels" of the portafilter stay exactly opposite each other or a bit on side? Thank you
I have owned a duo temp pro for a while now. And yes that is totally normally for the water flow to come out more on the right side than the left with no coffee as resistance. If you take the shower screen off to clean it and look up in the group head you will see a hole on the right side of the brass looking group dispersion thingy. Thats where all the water comes out and then the screen does its best to disperse that evenly. I noticed with mine the more often i clean it the more even the water flow is. Sometimes the holes in the shower screen can get clogged with coffee oils and make the water come out a lot less evenly.
Thank you so much for your review! You are not only a great communicator but it is obvious that you are a wonderful person. Your spirit comes through on the video. Oh, and the Breville is nice too. :)
I recently bought my own Breville Duo Temp and have been really enjoying it. I'm having a hard time getting my espresso just right, though. While it brews in the correct amount of time, the espresso starts dark for a few seconds, but then runs blond for the rest of the shot. Is this normal for this machine? Using a Capresso coffee grinder and have gone up and down on grind size.
I got this on cyber Monday and have only used it once because it intimidates me lol but this video is really good and my machine seems a little less scary
I have these two machines (exactly the same). water comes out (in can pre heated with cooked water as a test) and no portafilter: 79 degrees Celsius or 175 degrees Farenheit. I think that is too cold for an espresso. When I make the espresso in a preheated portafilter and cup it is only: 45 degrees Celsius or 10 degrees F. From the steamer the water for a cup of tea (in a preheated cup with cooked water as a test) 88 degrees Celsius or 190 degrees Farenheit, that is to cold fot a cup of tea. That's probably the reason why all coffees are sour, because I tried different coffees and different finesses of grinds of my fresh beans. Also tried different amounts and different portafilters. And I never ever had a good crema. Still haven't tried preground coffees. How can I manage the temperature myself is there a code with pushing some buttons at the same time? After about 15 cups the holder for the portafilter at the upper edge (not the connection with the portafilter) is beginning to leak fresh water.
Thank you very helpful Love this machine saved big money bought after Christmas Our first ever try at home espresso n lates . Oat milk froths up perfect.... espresso is easy . Great value
Do you know where I can get a wooden box for my knock box? I have the metal part, would like a shell to put it in. I have this machine, love it. Just got the Sette 30. Excited to pull some shots.
Hi, thought this would be an upgrade from my old Starbucks Barista, but having trouble getting foam without the milk getting too hot, and not getting a lot of crema, just dark coffee then a bit of blond at the end. Using the single walled basket, grinding, measuring, and tamping. Only been at it 1 day tho- any suggestions?? The Starbucks Barista machine works better for me!
Same here. Usually I find the issue to be tamp pressure. I'm considering buying a calibrated tamper as I really want to produce consistently good espressos. It's kind of like cheating though 😆
Just bought this machine but when I make a latte it only tends to be slightly warm. When I froth my milk my pitcher gets very hot so I have to stop but why it finishing slightly warm.
Get yourself a temperature gauge with a red marker that tells you when the milk is coming up to 65 degrees. Most people find that it is far too hot to keep holding the jug until it reaches the right temperature. You can get these temperature gauges off Amazon for just a few quid.
@@GarGri Hi Gareth thanks for the comment. I can happily say I purchased a temperature gauge some time ago and it has greatly improved the temperature of my milk. 👍 not sure how some people manage to hold the jug at 65 degrees maybe they have asbestos hands 😁
is this identical to the catler es 4050? i mean they look exactly the same, only we have catler instead of breville here in hungary. appreciate the answer
Zoltán Kriston Yes, that is the same. For some reason Breville does not sell these espresso machines globally under the same brand. In the US it is Breville, in the UK it is Sage by Heston, in Germany it is Gastroback, in Hungary, our country it is Catler. Funny.
whats the price range of this unit? how does this compare to the barista express model in terms of brewing side (aside from theres a grinder on the BES)
Do you remember the grind settings? I have the same grinder and machine but mine flows out faster whereas yours come out in a nice thicker, slower running smooth stream. I had grind setting to 13.
JB I have 24 in grind size, 16.2 seconds. It gives 18-19 grams of coffee for a double portafilter. So, the machine brews the espresso in 27-28 seconds (60 ml, 2 oz)
I am having trouble getting a good froth. How far into the milk are you placing the wand? Thanks for the demo. I bought this machine after a lot of research. Your video was the deciding factor!
The instruction manual says the espresso should come out like pouring honey but that hasn't been my experience. Just got it today so experimenting with different grinds and tamp pressure etc... would love your input. Thanks !!
Seattle Coffee Gear grinding right before using yes. But they were espresso roast Starbucks beans given to me with the machine therefore I don't know when they were roasted. (Obviously not within 5-7 days given its Starbucks). Would that be the difference between a nice creamy looking product vs more watery ?
Most likely you will have to go coarser than where you are with stale coffee. But of course, the results in front of you will tell the true story. Espresso prep is a little bit recipe, and a little bit experimentation. :D
Great video. I just bought this one. But i am real beginner. I am struggling with my measures. How much coffee did you put in? You used the 2 cup filter i guess? How do you know for how long the water should run if you arent a pro? My espresso tastes really sour all the time. Sorry for all these qeustions.
If you’re making a double shot, measure 14 grams of beans, 7 if single. You could also get a espresso shot cup, and that’s how I measure the amount of espresso needed.
Hi, I was wondering how this compares to the Capresso EC Pro. You did reviews on both, but no comparison. Was wondering if the extra 90-100 was worth it for the Breville. Thanks
The Breville definitely is more robust. Also it's auto-purge feature is a big plus and will make brewing and steaming fast and easy. Thanks for the video suggestion!
i was also thinking about getting the capresso ec pro... but i dunno if the capresso only comes with one size non-pressurized portafilter. so i wanna leans BreVILLE... i hear the breville comes with 2 non pressurized portafilters, but im not sure
Seattle Coffee Gear I'm really interested in this machine but can't afford to get the machine and the grinder, how much worse it it too use pre ground espresso coffee? I'm willing to sacrifice a little quality for the sake of 200 bucks lol, thank you for your time and another great vid!
+Seattle Coffee Gear the new DuoTemp looks a lot like my ESXL 800, but the improvements seem very worthwhile. My machine has a real bad spoon/tamper... and only pressurized filter baskets. Also the esxl800 only has a 51mm portafilter. What I do love about my machine is the front removing water tank (as oppose to the new rear mounted one and the all metal casing including the top. The one thing with this new machine that concerns me is that it is just as slow as mine. Does this compare well with the infuser?
Hi, I recently bought Smart Grinder Pro, but looks like on the finest setting, my coffee machine doesn't do well - it's DeLonghi Dedica. Do you know if I will change my coffee machine to Duo-Temp Pro, it will be able to press water properly trough it on the finest coffee setting?
I’ve had this machine for over a year and the shots are really inconsistent (even if I keep the same grind and time the shot and watch the tamp) still good espresso but inconsistent from each day Any advice on how to fix this? Xo
Cheaper machines lack a 3 way valve so it's normal for the puck to be somewhat sloppy, one of the ways they keep the price down...as long as the machine produces a good extraction is all that matters, the rest is just "comforts" ;)

whats the price range of this unit? how does this compare to the barista express model in terms of brewing side (aside from theres a grinder on the BES)
I believe it's 399.
All that info can be found here: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/breville-duo-temp-pro
Thanks !!
Fresh beans! Are you using beans that have been roasted 3-7 days ago? Freshly ground right before brewing?
Seattle Coffee Gear grinding right before using yes. But they were espresso roast Starbucks beans given to me with the machine therefore I don't know when they were roasted. (Obviously not within 5-7 days given its Starbucks). Would that be the difference between a nice creamy looking product vs more watery ?
100% the issue with the espresso. Try a fresh bag of beans and see the results :D You will have to adjust your grind as well :D
Seattle Coffee Gear so if the beans are fresher (roasted in last week or so) I would have to grind more coarse or fine ?
Most likely you will have to go coarser than where you are with stale coffee. But of course, the results in front of you will tell the true story. Espresso prep is a little bit recipe, and a little bit experimentation. :D
Is there any espresso machine made all in metal? I hate the plastic parts
Which machine can steam very fast if you need to make 50 - 100 cappuccino's a day? Can you please help me give a machine and type name?
Great video. I just bought this one. But i am real beginner. I am struggling with my measures. How much coffee did you put in? You used the 2 cup filter i guess? How do you know for how long the water should run if you arent a pro? My espresso tastes really sour all the time. Sorry for all these qeustions.
If you’re making a double shot, measure 14 grams of beans, 7 if single. You could also get a espresso shot cup, and that’s how I measure the amount of espresso needed.
Also, if the espresso tastes too sour, it might be you ground it too coarse, or you added too much water.
Kyle Harvey I was wondering the same thing, did you ever find out?
There is some good n cheap grinders, like the kalita, works like a pepper grinder.
Can I make double-shot in this machine ?
Just got this for Christmas! Is it normal for the portafilter to be SO hard to lock in?
Yes, I think so. it's made this way so your filter doesn't falls out of it when you use a knockbox.
between anxious for this crew review Gail. Thanks so much!
What are your thoughts on the machine??
+Seattle Coffee Gear the new DuoTemp looks a lot like my ESXL 800, but the improvements seem very worthwhile. My machine has a real bad spoon/tamper... and only pressurized filter baskets. Also the esxl800 only has a 51mm portafilter. What I do love about my machine is the front removing water tank (as oppose to the new rear mounted one and the all metal casing including the top. The one thing with this new machine that concerns me is that it is just as slow as mine. Does this compare well with the infuser?
Hi,
I recently bought Smart Grinder Pro, but looks like on the finest setting, my coffee machine doesn't do well - it's DeLonghi Dedica. Do you know if I will change my coffee machine to Duo-Temp Pro, it will be able to press water properly trough it on the finest coffee setting?
Does it extract slowly or too fast? Cause you shouldn't be doing the finest possible, you should be doing it as finely as required.
Would you say this is better/faster than the BES840CBXL?
I’ve had this machine for over a year and the shots are really inconsistent (even if I keep the same grind and time the shot and watch the tamp) still good espresso but inconsistent from each day
Any advice on how to fix this? Xo
What grinder do you use? What basket? Thanks
my coffee taste a bit sour but the needle shows an over extraction. also, the puck was wet. is there any way to fix this?
Cheaper machines lack a 3 way valve so it's normal for the puck to be somewhat sloppy, one of the ways they keep the price down...as long as the machine produces a good extraction is all that matters, the rest is just "comforts" ;)
Thanks for this video. Until now I thought water purging into the drip tray was a defect.
