This is my favorite carol. I've sung with two choruses and choirs during school and college and couldn't wait to bust this out. Where you have a huge room and a big chorus. you can bounce this tune back and forth from your sopranos and altos to you tenors and baritones and basses. And you HEAR them ring. It is thrilling. Thank you so much for this version. It is spectacular

Original version is ukrainian folk song "Schedryk". Mykola Leontovych was written a choir version, that become a "Carol of the bells" after English adaptation.
Gotta say this is a massive improvement over the original 👍👍

The fact that this wasn't used in Violent Night was totally a missed opportunity.

Ukrainian Bell Carol is the original song by Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych who used a four note motif as an ostinato which was used from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant called "Shchedryk" meaning the Generous One.
This is an epic song, the instruments in each of these pieces come together very well to give the song a wonderful feeling.
This and Jingle Bells are my two favorite Christmas cover songs you have done.

I think the author of shedryk(carol of bells) Mykola Leontovych will love this version too. Its so bit funny to see how people wrote stories where this melody can be, and my nation just live in this darkest version of history. Maybe if ur interested Leontovych was killed by ruzzian imperia because he was spread Ukrainian language, so don't erase our culture. The author of this song is Mykola Leontovych, not just "traditional".

This song always makes me think of a small light shining in the darkness. Then, as the song proceeds, the light grows brighter and brighter, until it outshines the darkness. And that light can only be Christ.
Carol of the bells is actually based on the Ukrainian ancient song Schedryk which is pagan in origin. Sorry to spoil it, but It really has no ties to Christ.

But if a person wants it to mean that, then it does for that person. For me, this song has everything to do with Christ and always will. Each to their own. Peace.

When I was in college, my school's chamber singers would walk around campus during fall semester finals week which was usually the week of Christmas eve- and sing this, because this song was always at the top of their setlist. Well it turns out when they moved to a different location on campus they'd have to start the setlist from scratch. I heard this every day for FOUR YEARS during finals week switching classes. So much so that its been permanently burned into my brain and I've been outta there for 14 years.

Want to know why all the bad kids get coal for Christmas? It's because Krampus couldn't catch them, and the coal is a reminder from Krampus that hell has an eternal flame burning for those who escape the clutches of the magic man of moral standing and gifts. You never hear stories of children who receive coal as a gift when they've gone missing on Christmas. Krampus and Santa are one and the same.
