I’ve spent so many hours in front of a TV growing up. I’m 46 now and find myself watching more TH-cam content than TV content. That being said, TVs have their place. We typically watch 2 hours max of TV each night, usually from 8-10.
I have been looking at dimplex opti mist for a while and could not find videos to build a modern surround. Not only is your video perfect it is actually with the product I want to buy! Thank you, money well spent on behalf of the company because I'm going to go out and buy one!.
A tip for caulking, the surface needs sealed with primer first then caulk, this will keep the caulk from cracking due to soaking into non sealed surface.
Really impressive, great work Melissa! I wouldn’t opt for a TV. We recently moved and decided not to take our TV, and it’s made a huge improvement in the feel of our living from and the focus family time with our two young kids.
I am SOOOOOOOO happy to have found your channel. 😁 You provide the non- intimidating approach to inspire us that have never built anything to at least try. 👍🏾👍🏾 Love it. I am going to build that fireplace in my master. 😃😃😃
That's crazy! Love it! Good job. BTW... Ideal TV viewing height is just below eye level when seated. The trend to mount TVs over the fireplace has given a lot of people sore necks!
I have multiple sclerosis..wish with every fiber of my being that I had the ability. I’m very creative and have a garage full of tools that I can no longer use. So it’s a bummer. Next best thing though; watching you Melissa build this! You are fantastic and wow what a personality, especially for instructionals such as this. #Humble. Subscribed
So helpful! I've been wanting to install a fireplace outcropping with drywall, but nearly everyone is using shiplap... Cute but not my vibe. This is exactly what I needed for inspiration. Looks lovely!
Agreed 👍 Shiplap is cute but not my vi e either. I'm about to start my DIY fireplace wall and not sure how it will be finished but it won't be shiplap, was thinking stone.
Wow that fire is so awesome I have never seen one that is so realistic. I started to watch this and was blown away by the flame size and voracity if you haven’t mentioned that is was not real I would have thought it was out of control.
You did an amazing job - great result. I don't want to take anything away from it but just a couple of constructive points on the electrical: you mentioned the enclosed outlets and said 'this is OK because I can cut through the framing later if need-be - that is a no-no, it must be directly accessible (but that's a tough one to overcome - it can't be a junction box either). The Cable however does not matter. And the wire nuts - twist the wires clockwise, the same direction as you will be screwing on the nuts (when you twisted the wires anti-cw, when you screw on the nuts they are going against the direction of your already twisted wires).
Nice job, looks good, I like the idea.. For future reference sheet rock is usually placed parallel to the floor. There are fibers in the sheet rock that reduce the chance of waves. With the steam from your fireplace insert or propane heat that may show up later.
What a way to had dimension and character to your all’s room and space! Great job. On the TV question: suggest finding another place your home for the TV. TVs above the fireplace look like don’t look good. However to each they’re own. One suggestion is gat some speakers (perhaps even small built-ins for some nice music to go with those amazing dancing flames. May have to put one of those fire places in our outdoor living spaces by the pool.
That is awesome! It is beautiful! There was a lot of hard work that went into this project but you made it look so easy! You are very good at this! I enjoy your videos!
I do not have any idea about who gave you a thumbs down! This project really incredible!! You've really done it awesomely. I've decided to subscribe to your channel and I can not wait to see your next projects!! Thank you for sharing that with us.
You did an amazing job❤️❤️ I’m looking for buildout ideas for my living room & 2 years ago I would have voted for the TV however, post pandemic I vote, NO. I haven’t watched TV since late 2019 & will not add one to my new space.
Great job! I just finished building a fireplace as well, and even though I haven't owned a TV for more than 10 years, I still roughed in the wires and cables just in case the next buyer wants a TV.
Wow, I absolutely love this! I wanna do that in my new home but with a TV on top and my husband wants us to do it ourselves but I kept telling him No because we have never built anything and I don’t have the patience but you made it look so easy!!! Lol. After watching this I am definitely going to attempt and build it ourselves ☺️
So pleased to have found your channel. Love your work. Wow fantastic tips and fun to learn things you do to renovate that normal people can also do. Thanks, absolutely great work and videos!
hi, we can provide you sample of 48ft color changing outdoor string lights, perfect decoration for outdoor patio, balcony or backyard lighting...contact us if you need it, thx
Wow this turned out so great. It has motivated me to do my own. I have been watching lots of videos because I have never built anything so I was worried. But I’m just gonna go for it. Great job.
This looks amazing! You are very talented! Unless I missed a video, it would be great to have a tutorial on how to make those beams you have on the ceiling.
We bought a house with a large fireplace with television hookups above the fireplace. The television ended up being too high to watch comfortably. We hung a mirror there instead and moved the television elsewhere. We now have moved and I miss having that large fireplace, even though we rarely used it because it's too hot where we live. I'm looking to build an electric fireplace in my living room, the electric fireplaces have a no-heat setting. That is nice, no more melted chocolate in our Christmas stockings.
courage.. and Patience Pay Off. You have done very well in the planning phases, not to mention acquisition and getting materials on site (that's the other 90% of the work). awesome. Ck Maintenance
Melissa , very nice work I'm impressed with your skills and ability to do all that work with three young kids who want mom's attention. What happens to all of the steam the fireplace makes? Will build-up of moisture inside the fireplace box be a concern?
Nope, so the glass does have space for the steam to release in the room through the top and bottom. If the heater is running that also pulls the steam up through the ventwork. Sometimes there is a small amount of condensation on the logs or edge of the glass, but the manual said that is not a concern. That has happened on mine after about 20 minutes of use and then goes away after the fireplace has been on for like 40 minutes or more.
I truly wanna be like you. I love this Video!! I’m tryna do the same but didn’t know where to start but thanks to this video, this is amazing! Thank You
Looks great! Good job. As a professional painter I do have one observation, minor though it may be concerning the project overall: Your caulk bead. The caulk needs to be run so that it penetrates, in one long line (or bead), into the crack you're filling. If you use your finger to smooth it out, a light touch is best. Also, that is not the place for a widescreen TV.
The out takes are sooo me and my 3 omg!!! ☺️ Thought I was the only one lol This channel is like an early Christmas gift! Thank you for posting. Soo excited to do this 👏🏼
Wall framing - typically top and bottom plates are continuous and studs frame into them - not vice versa as you did. Use two top plates with overlapping corners for strength and ease of erection - they hold themselves together. As these are not load bearing it is not an issue but if you get inspired to build something that is please follow the recommendations above. Otherwise it looks fantastic. Love your hint about knocking off the edges of the miter corners.
I would go for a nice smart TV, you can use it as a large digital picture frame, tv, listen to music, etc.. if you integrate it nicely into the wall you can make it less "in your face" Or build a movie theater room in the basement ; )
I’ve spent so many hours in front of a TV growing up.

“DIY doesn’t take confidence, it takes courage… to fail and learn from your mistakes” I love this!! Great job!! So beautiful!💯
The new women of our society. Independent, smart, and beautiful. More power and vids to come!
She needed help from her man so not really independent
I like when you said DIY takes courage more than confidence. Thank you for that little gem of an advice.
Very impressive. What a big job and you did it impeccably. Thanks for sharing. We are going to look at that fireplace as an option to purchase!
Love the fireplace... come out perfect. Love the outtakes also... you should always include those... makes it look like REAL life...
I think I will!
I have been looking at dimplex opti mist for a while and could not find videos to build a modern surround. Not only is your video perfect it is actually with the product I want to buy! Thank you, money well spent on behalf of the company because I'm going to go out and buy one!.
The first step of a long journey is the hardest, except for the next, and then the next, until the journey is done. Beautiful job!
That's the best looking electric fireplace I have ever seen!
Agreed!
Definitely a OLED TV for that space. Movie nights by the fireplace 😍
You are awesome
I've been a general contractor for over 20 yrs. Your advice and ability to teach out is amazing. Thank you.
that fireplace in action did look pretty cool
Girl, you rocked that. You did an amazing job...
A tip for caulking, the surface needs sealed with primer first then caulk, this will keep the caulk from cracking due to soaking into non sealed surface.
All I can say is you absolutely killed it!! Fantastic job!!!! I’m a fan
Anyone who has not TV gets my great respect. TV propaganda and moral decay is the thing our sheeple get.
Exactly 👏 💯
Girl. You put this together like a boss!!! 🔥
Very nice job, Melissa! DIY projects are so rewarding, aren't they?
Really impressive, great work Melissa! I wouldn’t opt for a TV. We recently moved and decided not to take our TV, and it’s made a huge improvement in the feel of our living from and the focus family time with our two young kids.
If anything, get a TV for a different room, or even consider a projector, which isn’t as much of visual focal point.
Being TV free was one of the best decisions are family made.
that fire place looks very nice great workman ship you got the touch girl!!!!!
Wow. Wow wow. You are magic. And thanks for this
Your videos great. A tip for drywall cut the visible side then snap it will give a cleaner line where it counts.
I am SOOOOOOOO happy to have found your channel. 😁 You provide the non- intimidating approach to inspire us that have never built anything to at least try. 👍🏾👍🏾 Love it. I am going to build that fireplace in my master. 😃😃😃
Amazing! Look elegant and original. Sweet ending video. The real life! Congratulations 🎉
I love that you did an electric fireplace!
Awesome job!!! Get a projection screen, you have both worlds that way.
HOLLY COW, THIS IS AMAZING
That's crazy! Love it! Good job. BTW... Ideal TV viewing height is just below eye level when seated. The trend to mount TVs over the fireplace has given a lot of people sore necks!

Great job! I can’t believe this was your first time building something from scratch!
Wow that fire is so awesome I have never seen one that is so realistic. I started to watch this and was blown away by the flame size and voracity if you haven’t mentioned that is was not real I would have thought it was out of control.
I'm very happy to see you using eye and ear protection. Thumbs up!
Nice Work!...falling out of my chair with the outakes!

I’m happy to see you don’t have to hook it up to water. I put this one out of the running so I didn’t have to mess with plumbing.
Hi Melissa,
I have say I so love this fire place it absolutely make the room go Wow !!
Well done 👍🏼
Great Job, Melissa!! Looks beautiful.
Beautiful! I have no courage. Lol. And I love the outtakes.
Looks great! Cement sounds intimidating.
Nice job, looks good, I like the idea.. For future reference sheet rock is usually placed parallel to the floor. There are fibers in the sheet rock that reduce the chance of waves. With the steam from your fireplace insert or propane heat that may show up later.
Thank you I didn't know that!
Great job. Looks awesome. Deffinitely needs a TV. Family movie night.

I do not have any idea about who gave you a thumbs down! This project really incredible!! You've really done it awesomely. I've decided to subscribe to your channel and I can not wait to see your next projects!! Thank you for sharing that with us.
Nice job! I had my TV above my fireplace, and didn't like looking up at it, so I moved it to another wall where it is now eye level from my sofa.
This technology is really great!
Thanks for taking the time.
You did an amazing job❤️❤️
I’m looking for buildout ideas for my living room & 2 years ago I would have voted for the TV however, post pandemic I vote, NO. I haven’t watched TV since late 2019 & will not add one to my new space.
👏🏽👏🏽 amazing job!!!
You are amazing !! Good for you!, you are an inspiration truly!
Wow Melissa you’re videos and projects especially are incredible. You make everything look so easy.

Inspiring young person.
And yes, a tv wouldn’t take away from that beautiful fireplace. js
beautiful work, from a handyman
Great job! I just finished building a fireplace as well, and even though I haven't owned a TV for more than 10 years, I still roughed in the wires and cables just in case the next buyer wants a TV.

No TV!! A black hole as the focal point of that space? I’m with you! As well, usually the tv is so high, you get a crick in your neck watching!
So pleased to have found your channel. Love your work. Wow fantastic tips and fun to learn things you do to renovate that normal people can also do.
Thanks, absolutely great work and videos!
Great JOB!!! Looks really nice!!!!!
You did a fantastic job of the fireplace. Great job.
hi, we can provide you sample of 48ft color changing outdoor string lights, perfect decoration for outdoor patio, balcony or backyard lighting...contact us if you need it, thx
Thank you for sharing your project. Job WELL DONE.
seems to me that some form of framing to box a TV in would give your husband the TV he wants, and a decorative project opportunity for you. Win win.
I like that idea!
The Samsung Frame TV would be perfect. And a selling feature to have the electrical set up

Amazing craftsmanship, I have worked with many contractors that can’t compare to this. Fantastic!
I really liked the outtakes. Loved getting a glimpse into the day to day behind the editing. :)
Glad to hear it Joe, I think I'll include those in most videos.

You did a very nice job , way better than I could ever do. However, when you're wiring things twist your conductors clockwise as well
Looks great good job
