    I’m so glad I found your video! I am planning a very similar build. We even have 10’ ceilings and the same flooring as you. I have watched so many videos in preparation, but yours is by far the best for our application.We got the TV last week, the mount comes today, our fireplace has shipped, and we are buying wood today. I so appreciate your attention to detail and your clear examples. Thank you!

    Did u use any software to design before you built the actually thing, i was told to use sketchup to design my wall but not sure if thats needed.

    • @moderngreyfarmhouse
      @moderngreyfarmhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did for the finished look of the overall fireplace but I didn't use it to plan out the sizes of wood to use for the frame. I used sketchup, the free version. The mock up was very amateur because I had no clue how to use it, but it gave me an idea of what it would look like centered on the wall. Also adding blue tape to the wall really helped visualize it. But for the frame itself we just drew it up on paper.

    Nice video!! How highly would you recommend TV to be above the ground to not get neck strain if you are watching at distance around 12 feet..

    • @moderngreyfarmhouse
      @moderngreyfarmhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For our setup we are 12 feet away. Bottom of tv is 57” from the ground and approximately 75” from ground to center of TV. We have no issues with neck strain. We did choose to have a TV mount that tilts the TV if we want, so ours is tilted downwards slightly. Hope this helps.

      The cost was $485 for frame and shiplap wall without fireplace. The fireplace cost will vary based on model, size and place you buy it.
      Breakdown:
      Shiplap $345
      Wood Frame $140
      The mantle build was $35

    • @moderngreyfarmhouse
      @moderngreyfarmhouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Genoviva Shelnut We are in Arizona. The panels are shiplap. There are many people in my area that do these fireplaces that post on local Facebook groups. Maybe you can find someone that way. Here they normally charge 5-10k without the fireplace so if you are able to DIY you can save so much money.

    You did a fantastic job. I am doing the exact same thing. Thanks for the cut list. Just wondering about tv equipment area. Did you just box it in? Is it attached to the back wall? I was thinking about leaving top of it open just in case I need to add anything. What are your thoughts. I am even doing the mantel the same way. Thanks.

    • @moderngreyfarmhouse
      @moderngreyfarmhouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. The equipment area is boxed in and attached to the 2x6 on the back wall, the reason we chose to do it this way was because our sound system is very deep. The opening is framed out taller than was needed, but we decided to lower the decorative trim to cover that area. If we end up needing to add stuff we could remove the trim to access that extra space.

    what did u use to finish the fireplace in the front of it?

    • @moderngreyfarmhouse
      @moderngreyfarmhouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The baseboard is 5” mdf that matches what came in our house. The trim around the fireplace itself that’s black came with the fireplace. In my review video of the fireplace I show the fireplace up close with and without the trim.
